My names Josh Schnell, and I have an addiction! I can't ever seem to get away from my apple! My fiancee sometimes jokes that I love it more than her! Anyway, the first mac I ever had the luxury of playing with was an original Macintosh! It was pretty exciting... but as time went on I got sucked into the <sarcasm> wonderful world of windows! </sarcasm> I finally found my way back to apple about 2.5 years ago, and I have no intentions of ever going back! I've gained quite a bit of knowledge over those couple of years... by no means do I consider myself an expert... but, I'm no noob either. I hope that I'll be able to shed some light on some of the topics that had me scratching my head in the eariler days of my adoption, and in turn help some of the newcomers shrink the already small learning curve into a seamless transition.

Josh

Re: How-to install linux apps in leopard

This is one of the first things I did on my mac when I connected to the internet!

Re: Screensharing, and saving gas money in Leopard

Hmm,

I'm not sure if there is a way to do that natively. Now, if you wanted to get geeky, you could always log in to your remote machine via ssh, and do it that way... maybe i'll write up a quick howto article on that. You can read my article here

Re: Connect 360, and streaming stuff from your mac to your xbox 360

Good, You'll be able to comment then on the show, because for some reason I can't get my xbox live working... it doesn't help that my cat5 cord is mangled.

Re: Adium and multiple chat accounts

Holy crap, I had no idea you can do that! As for the spat with tuaw, I'm sorry that you feel that way. But, when it comes to friends and family, I'll take their side and defend them at what ever the cost. Intellectual property is a serious thing, and a number of the writers here on this blog put a lot of effort into creating the best articles that they can. When someone else takes that and then reposts it without even a mention of where it came from it leaves me extremely annoyed.

You may see it as unfounded, and you might not agree with me, but from our posting the article late friday night, and posting it to digg, then tuaw posting it in the morning with almost the exact same title, and a very similar format to the body of the article... I'm left to wonder if they got the information from us, and then reposted it. It may not be plagiarism, but I do know that if I did that at my post secondary institution, I would be getting a nice visit from the dean. Now, maybe they didn't, and maybe it is a complete coincidence...I'll never know. I still stand by my right to call them on it, and Mr. Lu gave his opinions on the matter. I'd do it again in a second. I love TUAW and will continue to use that site on a daily basis, but most people I talk to don't believe it was a mere coincidence that the articles title, and opening statements are very similar. On the flip side, a lot of the people I talk to about it also don't see the connection. So, maybe I'm reading into it a bit more than I should, and I really hope that's the case.

I don't really see an issue with me standing up for others on this site, and those associated with this community. I think it's noble, and far to often most people let others walk all over those around them. It's not gonna happen here, and I'll continue to stand up for the writers here any way I can. It has nothing to do with competition. I don't troll those boards, and I don't knock that site ever...I've directed people to their service on numerous occasions both in the podcast and in print, what they do is a great benefit to the community, and I appreciate it. Like I said earlier, I really hope there is no foundation for my arguments and that I am overreacting. I hope this might answer your questions, and concerns.

Re: Customize Pages

Sam, I have to agree 100%.
