I spent some time last fall looking. It is frustrating because it limits those who have actual field experience from a second career as a library school professor. I like to think that I have learned some things from being a library director which I could share with the next generation of students. The fact that there are also a limited number of places (which are often not near where I am) which offer the PhD is frustrating.
