New reader votes on the new URL, not the one that delivered them. That leaves it stillborn.

For example:
http://www.stumbleupon.com/url/faildogs.com/pos...
http://www.stumbleupon.com/url/faildogs.com/pos...

This might seem like nothing, but it is a big deal and it is really frustrating to see from a service I have been totally impressed with until now.

How could you make such a major change with no announcement whatsoever or even considering something as fundamental as the major sources of traffic (digg, stumbleupon, etc)?

It's disappointing.

Re: (The official) Tumblr Tumblelog

Hello,

The folks at Disqus are currently porting comments to the new URL scheme. Sorry for the interruption. This was entirely our oversight. It should be wrapped up tonight.

As for the bookmarking services, they'll scan our permanent redirect headers when they sweep for dead links. If it's important to maintain legacy permalinks for a particular widget (like Digg), you can explicitly use the old URL structure in your theme like:

<script type="text/javascript">
digg_url = 'http://www.davidslog.com/post/{PostID}';
</script>
<script src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Very sorry again for the confusion.

Re: (The official) Tumblr Tumblelog

The old URLs will still work (and forward to the new URLs).

Re: Disappearing comments on Tumblr blogs

Awesome. Your post was extremely helpful - I had no idea about the changes, noticed a glitch, logged on to Disqus and was instantly informed. Really appreciate it.

Re: (The official) Tumblr Tumblelog

This messes up any success sites may have had with services like Digg and Stumble Upon because it divides the new viewers from the old - essentially starting everything over.

It would have been really great to have known about this in advance, or been able to opt out. It's creating all sorts of problems, in addition to the Disqus hang ups. Obviously it's a great idea but not without consequences to the people that depend on Tumblr.

Re: Fail Dogs

bad posture

Re: Fail Dogs - Fail Dogs is for sale

claiming the bid represents 3 x 12 month revenue is difficult on a fad site with only 2 months of earnings reported, and growing com(pet)ition ( har har).
I am interested in buying, but I think you are using a non-applicable business practice/estimation to justify the high price.

Be thee ware, trying to squeeze too much money from a volatile fad site with admittedly only 2 months worth of work ("only a few minutes a day to go through emails and update the website") might be seen as greedy, and turn off both buyers and visitors, while bringing attention to other up-and-coming pet humor themed sites.

Cut a few grand off the price and maybe you'll get a bid.

Re: Fail Dogs - Fail Dogs is for sale

It is hard to argue that its "fadish" nature wasn't what brought us higher traffic at first however the traffic has stabilized (even without updates) and continues to bring in steady daily revenue. Also, I would note that the price is significantly below the 3x12 month revenue.

Re: Fail Dogs - Fail Dogs is for sale

Are you really making that much money with half an hour a day update (personal assumption) ?

From what, google ads? (I don't see them).

I too think it seems ridiculous at first, but I am not used to such business, and thinking about it, don't have that much hard time imagining someone paying in the few thousands for it.

Anyway, good luck. And good job done up to now.

Re: Fail Dogs - Fail Dogs is for sale

Are you basing the critique just on sticker shock?

It seems that less than three times 12 month trailing revenue is reasonable.
