It's hard to say how else everything will work given the spotty performance since the upgrade, but based on the list of enhancements and bug fixes I'd say it's going to be an improvement. Now, don't forget to make yourself visible to your friends or they will never be able to come find you whenever they feel like it. :-D

Re: The horror week continues for Linden

I agree with Dave 100%.

For myself, I know it will take some time to get the kinks ironed out, and I can be patient. I thnk it would be expecting a lot to have something this complex work perfectly out of the chute. I'm using this transition time as an opportunity to practice some in-world scripting, and I've already managed to learn some things that I am planning to implement once the grid stabilizes.

Re: Linden announce Japanese speaking liasion

Well! I'm one of the folks trying to work with the pathetic excuse for a repeater. I know!

Zak and I own a plot that borders both sides of a Linden road, and one day on a lark we decided to see if we could put a bridge across. Auto-return KILLED that dream! As far as I can tell, each object is plotted on the grid at it's center axis (the intersection of x,y,z). As long as that center axis is not on Linden land, you can safely overlap it without fear of auto-return - so up to 5m max. Once that axis crosses, the object becomes a trespasser.

I read at one point that bridges can be considered on a case-by-case basis, but that it is difficult to get this done because Linden doesn't have the resources available to do constant construction for members. Fair enough, but it would be nice to see SOME options for folks like Zak and I. (In their defense, Linden was nice enough to move trees out of the sightlines of our doors, but I would have liked to see them removed altogether, or pushed out of the borders of our plot at least.)

As for vehicles, I agree you should be able to take them on Linden roads (where else are you supposed to go - sandboxes?) The funny thing is that the option is there to allow people to bring items in without actually building on the land. Why isn't it activated? Who knows. Hopefully there will be changes to all of this in the future.

Re: SLOz archived by National Library of Australia

Way to go!

Re: ABC island hits a snag

Thanks for the info Lowell!

As an sl builder I live in mortal fear that something will happen to one of my finished builds as a result of griefing, property owner error, or worst of all - poor planning on my behalf. Info like this helps me to stay on top of potential hazards and solutions.

I'm glad ABC was able to get everything restored. :-)

Kat

Re: Free conference space available

Gary,

The build was not only a labor of love for a long time real-world friend of mine, it was designed with consideration to Lowell's budget and economization of prims. It was created for a specific function and purpose; had Lowell requested something more surreal or futuristic, I would have been happy see to it that he received it, but he did not. Since an important rule of establishing good business relations is to listen to your customer and delivering what they want, I believe the build is exactly what it was meant to be.

Just because I can create the abnormal, that doesn't mean I always should.

I fail to see why it was necessary for you to criticize my work, or what you hoped to accomplish by it, but as you are the first and only person to do so, I've decided not to let it bother me. My firm's subsequent builds have repeatedly received praise and admiration, and our services have been in such demand that I have actually been able to quit my regular job and work in sl full time. I hardly think that would be possible if my abilities were as rudimentary as you imply.

However, I am not adverse to constructive criticism, nor do I live with the illusion that all I do is perfection; therefore I would like to offer you the ability to give your opinions, insights, and feedback to me directly. You can do so by e-mailing me at kat-@-slencoredesign-.-com, or sending me an IM in-world. This would be more desirable to me than to stumble across your disdain in a public forum.

Thank you,
Kat

Re: Blow up the pokies

I don't know Lowell, without avatars sitting there at the games, camping chairs could become a bigger commodity than ever at malls and clubs that previously shared space with casinos. Personally I think the LL traffic counting methods need to change in a way that would nullify the point of camping chairs (thus reducing the load on resources), but that's another topic for another day.

Honestly, despite all of the grumbling I am hearing, I am surpised that folks don't realise LL is doing us a favor and protecting us from a federal government that would seek to get a slice of the pie. Would folks be happier having to enforce taxation on their customers, as well as paying an income tax on their Linden earnings? Seriously, it's the Feds here who are the boogyman, LL is just trying to avoid the headache and mess that goes along with that. It's a shame LL didn't headquarter overseas - I'm sorry for all of the international and tribal folks who have to suffer losses because LL happens to be in California.
