That's what we told Ilia too. It's sucks that I spend so much time at home explaining ads on TV or the radio only to have them bombarded at school too.

Re: Broke and Trying to Move

I'm willing to move anywhere. But what happens is that Schwarzenegger borrows the money then we never see it. The school had to cut $3M from their operating budget for this year and maybe even more next year.

Re: imaginando

YAY! The name alone is horrendous, but currency based on what I do online it utterly asinine. That's only going to resonate with a handful of people, I think. They'd have to be supremely insecure people, but...whatever.

Re: What Was Different about Annie Le | RaceWire

Very good article. One of my biggest fears being a black woman and having kids, is that if they or I go missing, there will be no massive search for us. Definitely not for me. I'm 36 and dark-skinned. May as well put out a press release for a missing earring. Maybe my kids are telegenic enough to warrant a blurb on the local news, but they are definitely not blond enough to have the national morning shows talking about them.

Re: imaginando

Saw a little girl the other day who looked like your kidling. That's just based on what I hear from people who, when they learn I live in a Latino neighborhood, then say derogatory things to me. Sometimes, I'll lie and say that I'm from some Central American country or Puerto Rican just to see them stumble over their racists selves.

Re: Just Read: Contact by Carl Sagan

Hi shpilk! How are you? Too funny that you haven't watched the movie yet. It is very different, yet very similar to the book. It's strange to see what was changed, but it still manages to make sense. Usually when there's changes to the screenplay adaption, there's bits left out, this is just a entire rewrite of the novel. The movie is "inspired by", if that makes any sense.

Re: My self-serving thoughts on Facebook acquiring FriendFeed

I think the *why* helps to explain what will happen next, and unfortunately, our existing FriendFeed content doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Facebook didn't pay $50 million to make FriendFeed better; they paid $50 million to make Facebook better. Sadly, Mark Zuckerberg doesn't care about your wonderful content that you've posted to FriendFeed (or the junk that I've posted), and since Zuckerberg''s paying the salaries of Bret et al, they won't care either.

I've elaborated on my thoughts in my post FaceFeed - Facebook acquired FriendFeed, FriendFeed is a failure, and garage dreamers should wake up.

Re: My self-serving thoughts on Facebook acquiring FriendFeed

I don't care *why* it was done. All I want is to know *right now* what happens to my content. That's it. I think something like this, we should be told what happens with our comments and native FF posts, the discussions that have occurred within those posts, etc. so that we can back up or find someway to kill the blog entries that were created using FriendFeed's 'share' function if that information is to disappear.

Re: Waiting for the Moon — A door in Balat Istanbul

The only app I've seen that would be useful for me is the Nike+ system or something comparable. Take turn-by-turn navigation & GPS. That's already in the Instinct. It would be great if I could plug my phone into MapMyFitness or Runner's World and have it read my mileage and route taken.

Re: But I don’t have an iPhone

Thank you, Sol.

Re: Are sponsorships to conferences to be expected now?

Ah, that is very true.

Re: Are sponsorships to conferences to be expected now?

Mary, you just may be on to something. In my experience, my friends who have had sponsorships from web-based companies or special-interests groups to attend conferences. It would be like my local hardware store sending me to a conference on home supplies. In some cases it's a great fit. The attendee is professional, not only getting something out of the conference, but making sure not to damage the brand of the company paying the bills.
