Too bad, b/c I just got another HD DVR from DISH, and the UI is terrible.

What a minute, should I get a Tivo?

Absolutely! Tivo is fantastic. But once you have it, those knock-off DVRs just won't cut it anymore.

in The Day I Started Blogging on Nordquist Blog
I realize the topic of this post was different than that of your original one, tho it's what I immediately connected with.
I too, have quit a job that was difficult to get, stable and had incredible career advancement potential. The general consensus was that I was stupid or crazy. At the time, it made perfect sense and probably was the right move. Or maybe it wasn't, but I made a decision based on the information and feelings that I had at the time. I made a bold choice.
Now, I'm making that same choice, but in reverse. I may be returning to a re-incarnation of that job.
I always like to say that sometimes, in my life, the shortest distance between two points is not a straight line. I accomplish tasks in an order that other people, or myself, simply don't understand at the time. I accept that, kind of. It seems to work.
As far as starting my own blog goes, I just don't know. I'm such a twitter guy. Just short one-liners as I think of them. And also, there is the design aspect to a blog, for which I have zero talent.
And, yes, there are large chunks of my life that I don't want open, tho I could easily write around them.
We shall see.

After 2 years of solid unemployment, I have recently taken the trash bin responsibility from my wife. It's the least I could do.

I wonder if maybe I shouldn't have deleted my account, but friendfeed just seemed too cliquey

I agree w/ your friendfeed assessment. also, good job on keeping your posts succinct. So many bloggers don't have either the skill, or even worse, the common sense do write a post that I can read quickly.

in Would I want to be Robert Scoble? on shawn farner
Does he even care about the average Joe? sure, he's an "evangelist" (tho I despise that term, should have left to the wack-jobs that initially claimed it, I say) and all, he's living the life he loves. To me, that's the point. Technology will spread regardless.

I care about the average Joe, but not in the context of my online life. I hang out with a lot more "average Joes" than I ever talk about. I also meet a lot wider variety of people than anyone who is commenting here does. Have you been to Amsterdam, Israel, NY, etc lately?
As for my "relevancy," I'll leave you to argue about that cause I have no control of that.
And, yes, I'm not supposed to be on the computer today but Maryam is taking a nap so I snuck a peek online.

You're selling Robert short when you ask that question - the reason Robert is where he is in the scope of things relies a LOT on the fact that he does care about the "average Joe" and goes out of his way to make sure that what he's doing is still relevant to A.J.s all over the place.
His uses of Social Media to make sure he's still got his finger on the pulse of "Average-Joe-ville" when so many of his contemporaries aren't even listening should indicate that.

good article. to the point, not overdone. my favorite line:
"It was difficult to admit that I had failed at the very decision I’d been taught was the most important one I’d ever make."
life can be like that.
oh, I liked the bouncing back part, too.

in My Blog Needs Twitter on Social Times
I find myself subscribing less and less to blogs and relying more on friendfeed and twitter. I like it much better. Seems like more fun and less work, somehow.
In fact, I found this link on friendfeed under "friend of Robert Scoble"

in My Twitter Follow Policy on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
My policy is that I addback, unless it's a marketing thing or spam. What's up with these people that follow 50 and are followed by 150? Seems like arrogance to me. dicks.

FWIW, I prefer to read tweets vs. longer blogs. Less wordy, more to the point.
