in Fox News Contributor Speaks Truth on danielmiessler.com | grep understanding

Notice he said CONGRESS is taking this away. Who controls congress right now? Democrats. Forgot that the Republican controlled congress and a Republican Executive Branch (who wrote it) put it into place.

This is about next years elections. Blame 'those in power' (the Democrats) for what the bastard Republicans did in the fist place. Fox is being foxy, as usual.

in User Data Can Provide A Competitive Advantage on AllFacebook
Eventually, users will become sophisticated enough to understand that their personal usage data/clickstreams have value and they'll want compensation for it. Facebook, like Google, is simply taking advantage of the fact that people are all gaga about getting the service 'free' (which of course, they aren't- they're paying with their personal data). Once people really think about it and realize that companies like facebook and google are making massive amounts of money off of their aggregated personal data, the game changes. Some people won't care, some will. It'll be an interesting thing to watch evolve.

Just give it time.

Personally, I think someone's going to create a service that enables people to own their personal data/clickstreams. Several have tried and failed, but eventually, someone's going to figure out the formula that works.

THEN... the advertising world changes. In a big big way.

in The brand promise of Apple on Scobleizer
I'm an ex-Apple employee. Worked in the Valley for 10 years.

And I agree with you.

Apple is arrogant. I left the company to escape the reality distortion field it creates around all it's people. We used to call it 'buying into the fairy dust'.

Oh.. and Vista sucks a good portion of the time (one of my machines has it.. most crash prone of all my boxes).

And Ubuntu isn't all the spiffy. Still not something my Mom can use.

These things are just tools. Like saws, or hammers. Computers manipulate little chunks of light around a screen (vs. a nail or, a piece of wood). It's just tool.

You people in Silicon Valley really need to get out (and way from your computers) more.

in 2006/09/15/clickcaster-simple-podcasting-and-video-blogging/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Me thinks you didn't do your homework. I use Clickcaster for my podcast and I've gotten to know them over the last year. They aren't competing with those guys. Their main site is a development site for their real business: being the leading private label podcasting platform. I know some of their developers and when I showed them this article, they said: "apparently he didn't talk to us, and if he'd like the whole story and the business model, he should", or something like that. There was alot of poker playing and beer involved so I might have gotten the exact quote wrong. :)
