Can't recommend lamorinda enough. Look at the school stats. Orinda school district's numbers are crazy. The average head of household education is an advanced degree. That's the AVERAGE. If you work in The City, you can commute by car, BART or ferry. Not to mention, the view on the way is world class. Either way, good luck to you!

Thanks for the advice. Actually I did let my job define where I lived years ago. But, it's worked out well for my family and I'm still happy here. However, I do believe the quality of life in this area is not headed in a good direction. For that matter, things have been getting more crowded, congested , polluted and less relaxed around here for the last 10-15 years. As soon as my youngest is off to college, we've talked seriously about moving to a cleaner, healthier, and less congested area. There are a lot of nice options out there. Sorry, I just think MB is not as nice a place to raise a family as it was in the past.

I have lived in both the NoCal East Bay - Orinda, and South Bay - grew up in Saratoga. If my job had allowed it, I would have moved back up there years ago. The public schools in both areas are FAR superior to ours. There is simply no comparison. The only advantage we have, in all honesty, is the weather. Up north, there is less congestion, density, pollution (by a very wide margin), and crime. Not to mention, esthetically speaking, our area is downright ugly in comparison. They have Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, the Wine Country and a host of other regional attractions that we cannot match, save maybe the Desert. Seriously, most people up there truly pity us for the quality of life we live and I have to agree that our situation continues to deteriorate. Maybe that's why a few people in Southern California with some money have been moving to our area in search of a decent place to live. If you had a beach area in NoCal that was adjacent to a large oil refinery, downstream from a nearby sewage treatment plant and close to the landing patterns of a nearby international airport, I would fathom the real estate values in that area would be MUCH lower than other, more desirable areas.

Two great posts. I would agree stronger with Tim's post than RW. Paraphrasing one comment, it is easy to Monday morning QB the failure, harder to do during the game. Mentors certainly can help smooth things out. Looking back on LJ and its era, it predated many of the tools available today that have made syndication easier (e.g. smartphones and ubiquotous internet connections) so they were not only having to sort out user needs but wait for technology to catch up. A counter point would be to view Flickr's success. Their business model started off being gaming but after user input they switched to on-line photo sharing. The valley of "Crisis of Meaning" can be hard to escape without strong resolution since the signals can be very conflicting.

Definitely gets the message across.

good for you havng this. i understand the idea of agressive..i wonder if in the context of today's culture if the term might cause a negative backlash from those outside the kingdom..certainly, some controversy in that way would stir interest.

Bill-O has long been a malodorous gas bag filled with bile and invective for everything and everyone that disagrees with his narrow-minded viewpoints and heavy biases.
