in The Irrelevant Business Plan on MindFrenzy
It's actually much harder to be short and concise in describing your idea. Most people tend to ramble on and on, in hopes of hitting the right note - instead of making sure it's easy to understand the specific benefits of an idea.

While i was studying for my Masters degree at the Institute of Thinking, one of our professors challenged the class to write business plans for our ideas. So many people created complicated plans with 300 components. Most of them spent nearly an hour trying to sell the class on their ideas... with not much success.

My group was composed of all international students and we built our business plan around a very, very simple idea. As international students, we lived in an international residence far away from the grocery store. Since the pipes were bad, we had to buy drinking water - which was incredibly inconvenient.

Our plan was simply to create a buying consortium that would negotiate favorable prices for water for all the 250+ international students in the Residence, and then deliver the water at a set time every week.

Since everyone at the Residence needed water, and the demand was constant, the business was very simple to explain.

Once that was established, we planned to expand to necessities like toilet paper, but we'd only offer things that were nonperishable with a guaranteed demand (in order to keep our risk low).

The idea was really simple, but everyone saw the value in it. We even got an offer to make the business a reality at the end of class.

in Wordless Wednesday: A Day Without a Toshiba... on Purple Wren
I have had my laptop cleaned recently - and it's amazing how stressful it is to go without a laptop when your entire business depends on it. So while the tune-up might be refreshing for my Toshiba... I certainly didn't come out of it feeling like I'd just had a mud wrap and a massage! ;-)

Far as I remember, Alicia Silverstone had one of those in the movie Clueless.

I wanted one then, and I'd still love to have one! Would definitely make getting ready easier.

in CONNEXT - ALL-IN-ONE MORPHING MOBILE DEVICE on Sharkride!
Very interesting! In fact, I just wrote a post on my blog about how all cell phones are starting to be alike and how I am desperately hoping for something completely different. Why should cell phones all be the same block-shape? Why can't they have flexibility, and movement like that very unique phone above has?

Thanks for sharing!

I think the main thing will be for young people to figure out how to separate the different aspects of their lives on Facebook and MySpace.

Personally, I don't really mind if my mom has an account, the issue for me is that I use my Facebook account to stay in touch with friends I don't see very often, and I want to keep the space informal for that. It's not that we all have inappropriate material up there, it's that we just don't want to worry about it.

As someone who has used LinkedIn, I can see why professionals would be interested in Facebook. It's much easier, and much more fun to use. So, I don't blame "adults" for wanting to join in.

I think this just means that us young people will have to reconsider how we use Facebook and what we want to do with it. I want the space to be for my friends, but I also want to be able to interact with business acquaintances in a fun, social environment.

So, in my case, I just decided that until Facebook comes up with better privacy options or more ideas for its original customers, I will have two accounts. That will allow me to have both professional and personal options, and even (gasp) allow me to be friends with my MOM and John online! ;-)

By the way, John, thanks for provoking such discussion.

Perhaps the solution for those of us young folks is for us to simply have two profiles. Our private "fun" one for our friends and then the "Professional" one for everyone we want to impress.

Any thoughts?

And after all that effort I spent trying to convince her that Facebook (like Trix Cereal) is for kids! ;-)

Ugh! I hope you're not the one who convinced my mom, Jill Konrath, to join!
