How about someone who isn't out to kill business which is also known as JOBS? Can you honestly imagine anyone interested in expanding their business in Seattle (quick econ lesson - tax revenues can ultimately only be expanded through increased wages) meeting with Mike McGinn to explain what they want to do and why? Can you imagine the blank, glassy eyed look of confusion on his face? Has he ever even managed a simple pay roll?

This is potentially a turning point for Seattle and not a good one. You can only try to kill businesses for so long before they get the message and move on. I hope you enjoy your life as a barista because that may end up being the top of the wage scale here if it keeps going the way it is.

I hope he makes it home safe. On the other hand, if you go to other countries, air their dirty laundry, you have to expect some resistance. You end up being some foreigner causing trouble. Some countries can detain anyone for any reason and not have to report it to anyone. That is the risk when you leave the US.

I have lived 5 years of my life in foreign countries and seen friends and acquaintances get in trouble with the local law. The local law almost always wins. If you are lucky, you just pay a fine.

NCLB-NOT, I don't even think you understand what the true issue is. If you'd spent any time at all paying attention to NA school committee meetings for the last three or four years, you'd understand that parents HAVE been complaining.

Primary concern: lack of electives. Which just so happens to be one major area that the NEASC pings. Can't offer electives unless there are teachers to teach them. Layoffs = not enough teachers.

So, add the Trib AND NCLB-NOT to the list of those that don't understand the problem.

I am also using my Eee 1000H as my main home computer now. It has plenty of power to do everything I need every day, including playing 720p x264 videos. If I need more power, I will VNC into my media server from it.

Bloated operating systems such as Windows Vista, and bloated office programs, like Office 2007 are the problem.

The Atom chip is more than powerful enough to watch 720p video. I watch 720p x264 videos all the time.

You probably need to download the stand alone versions of those videos and not try to use Flash or Silverlight to watch them in-browser. Both Flash and Silverlight are crap video players and slower than molasses.

Adobe, and Microsoft cannot write software to save their lives. Instead, they keep Intel busy making faster processors to run their shit software.

Google "CCCP" and "CoreAVC" to be able to play high def videos on your Atom.

Most HD video is recorded in 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 chroma sampling, meaning that your color information IS NOT HD, only the luma information is.

So you will get a HUGE benefit watching HD video on almost any screen.

To all the guys having 1600 and 6 errors:

At first i did an advanced firmware with pwnage. dfu and restore morde didn't work. could get itunes to install my custom firmware.

then restored a normal 2.1 version from apple and created a new firmware with pwnage. this time i choosed the "beginner" mode and not the expert mode. entered dfu mode and everything works.

thanks devteam you are awesome, without you the iPhone would stink.

Easy fix-- pick your developer key in the build settings and make sure you have the right app id in the info.plist.

Go to the developer forums at apple and do a search-- people have this problem all the time.

The issue is that the app wasn't able to be signed with the right key for the provisioning profile.

Они покрыли значительную территорию, многие райцентры. А остальные - в лучшем случае областные центры и их пригороды. По крайней мере, на западе. Возможно в Черновцах он и работает хуже, не знаю. В последнее время больше слышно ругани на ТСУ и УТК.

Сколько можно читать однотипные восторженные комментарии к любой новости о МТС. Подозреваю, что они пишутся с одного IP.

По всей видимости, матершинник использовал какой-нибудь иностранный веб-сервис, владеющий собственным СМС-центром. Номер СМС-центра можно посмотреть в пришедшем сообщении и если он отличается от стандарных для UMC - то это подделка. А отправка СМС через почтовый шлюз (закрытый месяц назад, хотя, кажется, один способ всё же есть, см. "нодесы") как и через сайт компании (с припиской "не несёт" в сообщении) к этому отношния не имеет.

PS: сейчас сюда прибегут пиарщики МТС, будут кричать, что у них лучшие тарифы, сотня миллионов абонентов в Украине и миллион абонентов прироста ежемесячно.

If you're an entrepreneur in america, you don't care about Venture Capitalists. They became obsolete in the mid 1990s. You don't need their funding and they WILL ruin your company.

The best advice one could give to any entreprenuer who needs it-- eg: one who is not experienced enough to skip this posting just by seeing the title is this: Don't fall for the hype. You'll never see an honest take on venture capitalists online, all you'll see are puff pieces and self aggrandizement like this article.

Venture Capitalists don't know what they are doing. Seriously, they are used car salesman, only they are selling you cash at the cost of equity.

They will come in and ruin your company-- I've seen them force bad technological decisions on companies, I've seen them force a company to spend most of their investment on the products of another company they had also invested in.

And, quite frankly, they don't know what they are doing. (Otherwise they would be doing it.)

There''s this culture of wealth that assumes that these people are some how "the best and the brightest".... largely this is a result of the free PR they get from firms that want them to hook them up with their portfolio companies.

Have you ever seen a term sheet? These people are not smart, they are not the "Best" they are ruthless and they are scamming people. IF you don't believe me, you will if you ever read a term sheet in detail.

You'd be better off going to a bank. Because, really, you don't need that level of capital anyway, these days.

Everything a business needs it can rent and pay for out of current revenues. All you need to put up is the first server and produce the product.

But unfortunately people have got it in their head that its cool to be "funded" and that you need funding to succeed.... when the reality is they will force you to bet your business on achieving a $1B valuation in 5 years.

The smart money is on getting a $100M valuation in 5 years and a very profitable business.

The reason is the chances of you hitting $1B are astronomical (and when you don't they pull the plug).... but the chances of hitting $100M are not that bad. Certainly by comparison.

Its just amazing that for the thousands of article written, nobody ever tells the truth about VC firms, talks about how they were screwed over, etc.

This is because people are addicted to the funding and they are afraid they might not get it if they tell the truth.

Before the current owners of Zayda and Caffe Fiore moved in, a beautiful old tree stood on the sidewalk right in front of Zayda's. People can walk around ballard, all day, with firarms concealed on their person, or strapped to their hip, without breaking any laws. Course that doesn't mean the cops (who don't know the law) won't shoot them....

My preferred outcome: bad guy hits telephone pole, feels a bunch of pain, becomes paralyzed but dies within a few weeks so legitimate citizens (read - taxpayers) do not foot the bill.

Said telephone pole falls on eyewitness' house - it hurts nobody but causes $100K in damage. Eyewitness sues bad guy to only find out that meth addicts have no cash. Insurance company, county, and city tell eyewitness to take a hike.

That is a just outcome - quit whining. This city and the Ballard neighborhood are becoming cesspools - crime is up and now you whine because the police are doing what WE WANT THEM TO DO, UHHH POLICE...

I wonder what the other steve is planning? How about this, mobilize his forces to make sure that dell, hp, etc. can run OSX on their PC's? Why not. Apple has already done most of the hard work, AND all the PC vendors are having to adjust their componetry a little to account for Vista demands. Why not align with Apple on 20% of their lines? This will wake up Microsoft, and Apples stock will double on the rumor alone.

Nonsense. I've taken tons of pictures in Apple Stores in many locations, including NYC, SF and London. Never had any hassles from the staff.

Still doesn't change the fact that Hillel's "I never want to make a decision" mentality has some flaws. Jackson Fish Market has all the pretty demos and flash fluff the Longhorn Client team had...man those demos were great...I love flash..why build a real product when you can create yet another pretty flash demo.

The genius is that Hillel has now created a business around making fluffy flash demos and is getting paid for it...well I was paying him for it too...but I didn't mean too.

A 1080p video typically has color resolution of 960x540. So you will see a huge improvement in quality on a 1024x600 monitor unless you are blind, dumb, or both.
