Because the new mayor is too fat to just pedal? Because he's too lazy? Because he's a hypocrite? What is the point of loading up a bicycle with lead, plastic, and negative energy consumption, especially if you are an environmentalist?

You are done. You are also clueless. I get really tired of people like McGinn telling everyone else how to live. It is oppressive and hypocritical.

I believe he's riding what should be considered an electric moped which makes him even more of a pussy than if he just rode a moped, and that's saying something.

Re: MOD Systems to test digital media kiosks at Blockbuster

If the investors don't they will soon. Before you have 20K employees for your first management job? Is that asking too much?

How about not predicating your support because you ride a bike - an ELECTRIC BIKE. Oh, right, that wasn't mentioned too much.

How about someone who isn't out to kill business which is also known as JOBS? Can you honestly imagine anyone interested in expanding their business in Seattle (quick econ lesson - tax revenues can ultimately only be expanded through increased wages) meeting with Mike McGinn to explain what they want to do and why? Can you imagine the blank, glassy eyed look of confusion on his face? Has he ever even managed a simple pay roll?

This is potentially a turning point for Seattle and not a good one. You can only try to kill businesses for so long before they get the message and move on. I hope you enjoy your life as a barista because that may end up being the top of the wage scale here if it keeps going the way it is.

Re: Mallahan concedes mayor’s race to McGinn

What a disaster. On the other hand, if you go to other countries, air their dirty laundry, you have to expect some resistance. You end up being some foreigner causing trouble. Some countries can detain anyone for any reason and not have to report it to anyone. That is the risk when you leave the US.

I have lived 5 years of my life in foreign countries and seen friends and acquaintances get in trouble with the local law. If you'd spent any time at all paying attention to NA school committee meetings for the last three or four years, you'd understand that parents HAVE been complaining.

Primary concern: lack of electives. Which just so happens to be one major area that the NEASC pings. Can't offer electives unless there are teachers to teach them. First off, Obama's up 5 and the margin of error is 3, so it's not within the margin of error. Second, what the poll does reveal is that there is a 95% chance that Obama is in the lead. They became obsolete in the mid 1990s. You don't need their funding and they WILL ruin your company.

The best advice one could give to any entreprenuer who needs it-- eg: one who is not experienced enough to skip this posting just by seeing the title is this: Don't fall for the hype. You'll never see an honest take on venture capitalists online, all you'll see are puff pieces and self aggrandizement like this article.

Venture Capitalists don't know what they are doing. Seriously, they are used car salesman, only they are selling you cash at the cost of equity.

They will come in and ruin your company-- I've seen them force bad technological decisions on companies, I've seen them force a company to spend most of their investment on the products of another company they had also invested in.

And, quite frankly, they don't know what they are doing. (Otherwise they would be doing it.)

There''s this culture of wealth that assumes that these people are some how "the best and the brightest".... largely this is a result of the free PR they get from firms that want them to hook them up with their portfolio companies.

Have you ever seen a term sheet? These people are not smart, they are not the "Best" they are ruthless and they are scamming people. IF you don't believe me, you will if you ever read a term sheet in detail.

You'd be better off going to a bank. Because, really, you don't need that level of capital anyway, these days.

Everything a business needs it can rent and pay for out of current revenues. All you need to put up is the first server and produce the product.

But unfortunately people have got it in their head that its cool to be "funded" and that you need funding to succeed.... when the reality is they will force you to bet your business on achieving a $1B valuation in 5 years.

The smart money is on getting a $100M valuation in 5 years and a very profitable business.

The reason is the chances of you hitting $1B are astronomical (and when you don't they pull the plug).... but the chances of hitting $100M are not that bad. Certainly by comparison.

Its just amazing that for the thousands of article written, nobody ever tells the truth about VC firms, talks about how they were screwed over, etc.

This is because people are addicted to the funding and they are afraid they might not get it if they tell the truth.

Re: 1996 revisited

it either means the images were inaccessible or safari doesn't render html in a useful way :)

Re: Digg Launched DiggBar Today

This is the dumbest thing I have seen. Mysteriously, right after Zayda's owners bought the space, the tree got badly "damaged". Conveniently for Mr. Paul, that tree never recovered and "had to be cut down". By the time Zayda opened, the sidewalk was clear, and now everybody driving along on Leary Way has an unobstructed view of the shop and its sign.

Re: Warning to neighbors about suspicious man

Welcome to Eastern Germany, 1960s in Ballard!

LOL, love to watch the lefties expose their fascist roots. You know, put them in their locker so they could go hunting with them directly after school. Back in those days, school shootings were a lot less common too.

Its amazing how unamerican this country has become... putting kids in lockdown, calling the police just cause someone had a gun in the neighborhood?

What's next, gonna call the police cause someone had a shovel?

There's nothing wrong with guns or with people carrying them. In fact your far less likely to get randomly or accidentally shot by a citizen with a gun than a cop with a gun (cops are notorious for bad safety records with firearms, and also not having much training.)

People can walk around ballard, all day, with firarms concealed on their person, or strapped to their hip, without breaking any laws. Course that doesn't mean the cops (who don't know the law) won't shoot them....

Sigh, how pathetic, and what are you teaching the kids? How about this, mobilize his forces to make sure that dell, hp, etc. can run OSX on their PC's? Why not. Apple has already done most of the hard work, AND all the PC vendors are having to adjust their componetry a little to account for Vista demands. Why not align with Apple on 20% of their lines? This will wake up Microsoft, and Apples stock will double on the rumor alone.

Re: Announcement, I’m going to Google

Robert,

Please don't forget the non-disclosure agreement you signed when you joined Microsoft.
