Finally I had to walk away, have some dinner and ponder the fight. When I came back I beat it the first go (having mulled tactics over in my head). To me, that's the mark of an awesome game.

Re: Dragon Age – Single Player CRPGs in the Age Of WoW

I wonder how it is being received in Console Land, where Japanese RPGs keep the CRPG torch alive, at least to some extent. Me too! And even more telling, my girlfriend is more excited about WiiFit than I am about anything on the Wii. A couple weeks back I rented a Wii game from Gamefly (Korinabo or something...a marble rolling game) and I had to adjust the Wii clock for Daylight Savings Time. That's how long it'd been since I'd turned the bloody thing on.

Re: I christen thee... My understanding from way back when it was announced, was that FreeRealms was for exactly who you suggest it should be for: kids. Yet another 'safe' and free virtual world for them to play in, with a light coding of gameplay brushed on.

I think Sony made 'em all drink the Koolaid at that Fan Faire.

Re: Finally in…

Once the NDA is dropped, anyone with the beta client will be able to pass it on to friends and family.

This was posted in the beta forums, but you didn't hear it from me!

Re: *gasp* A Decision?

So what did you decide?

Re: Am I mean?

LOL, that's horrible! I follow some people almost like I'd sign up for their RSS feed. I don't really care about them as people, but I care about them as a barometer for what's going on in the world. But for the most part those people tweet about what's going on in whatever slice of the world they're invested in. They don't add much personality to their twitter presence and rarely go 'off message.'

I find these people useful, but it seems like what they're doing must be dead boring.

Other people I follow because they seem like interesting people, and I want to hear about all different aspects of their life and interests. These are the people I'm always @replying to. I feel like I'm getting to know the people behind the tweets. For these people, I think twitter absolutely is the place to just be yourself. And I think if I had to lose one or the other aspects of twitter, I'd rather lose the 'broadcast' types than the people types.

Of course it isn't always easy. I've been on the fence about one fairly 'internet celebrity' level person because she stepped out of her usual role of technology/gadget reporter and started talking about global warming, and what she said just dumbfounded me. To this day I can't decide if she was being sarcastic or not. I enjoy what she has to say about gadgets, but I find myself wrestling with the issue of where I should be following her. Is # of followers a kind of currency? By following someone am I giving them a vote of confidence, telling my friends "This person is worth listening to?" To some extent I think it is. And I do think this person has some interesting things to say about gadgets, but I hate even indirectly supporting someone who shares her apparent views on global warming.

Erm, sorry for the ramble, but your post got me thinking out loud...

Bottom line, I'm glad that you tweet about all your interests. It makes you a really interesting person to be following.

Re: Rune Factory Frontier: Returning To The Farm

I have RF 2 for the DS, and RFF for the Wii. VMWare Fusion works great, in my experience.

Re: Mac Beats Windows Beats Mac

I'd choose a screen size and work backwards from there. Myself, I find the 17" are too big to actually use as a laptop (they're nice for a desktop replacement). I haven't used the 13" Macbooks, but I have a 12" iBook and that screen is a bit too small.

So for me, the 15" MacBook Pro is the sweet spot.

I'm not sure 40 gigs of hard drive space and 0.2 ghz more speed is worth $500, so I'd probably go for the low end one. I have a 2.16 ghz MacBook Pro and it still feels plenty fast to me.

But I'm no Mac Genius or anything. :) This is all just what works for me. Hope it helps!

Re: Coming to terms with Final Fantasy XI

I played a long time ago, on the PC. I remember having a real love/hate relationship with it back then.

I understand what you mean about being intrigued by the annoyance though. I've been thinking a lot about the 'old days' and how much harder (well, more grindy, more time sinks) MMOs were, but those are the games that I remember events from.

With today's easier MMOs, no events really stay in your mind for very long.

Looking forward to hearing how FFXI turns out for you. I might wait for FF XIV!

Re: Kindle vs Sony Reader

The Sony Daily Reader Edition is going to be $400. That's the one with the wireless and touch screen - their high end model. At least, that was the price announced before Amazon cut the Kindle price.

One big difference is that the Sony e-readers support borrowing books from a library. Of course, not every library supports this, but if one near you does, you can save a lot of $$ that way.

Still, spending an extra $150 up front is a *huge* difference.

Re: Riding The Wave

Couple thoughts/questions. Do you think the 'real time' nature of a wave brings anything to the table? Seeing people type a reply in real time? I'm not sure it does...I think the only thing it might do is cause people to get self-conscious about typos. :)

I do think the "Playback" feature has some value. If you're trying to make sense of a wave that you got to late, hitting the playback button to watch the wave 'grow' can add context to the actual content of a wave. Seeing when someone added a branch to a wave, visually...there seems to be some subtle value there.

Re: 2 weeks, 3 games

I'll be playing all three of these.
