Val I appreciate your honesty. You have valid concerns. Just keep your hands in it because PE Obama will need ALL of us to turn this thing around. It won't always be perfect and we won't always agree on everything but we can do this. I believe it.

I am with you on the paryers and not sure of the folks surrounding him but some things are best left to higher powers when it is beyond our control.

heartsandflowers I want to know how that punk officer could just quit and not be forced to answer any questions. He could skip out of the country or anything. I've never seen a cop quit during an investigation. He's just basically announced his guilt. Plus I KNOW the recorded something and are lying about it. Thank goodness so many people had their cell phones.

Of course, I'm not surprised about Houston, the city of my birth - HPD has always been the urban version of the Klan. My father defended himself while running his business (a barbeque joint), and did eighteen months for voluntary manslaughter, courtesy of the state of Texas. And this, after his lawyer put ten witnesses on the stand to testify that the guy my dad killed was trying to rob the place and came after my dad with a knife.

Oakland isn't a surprise, either; and this is where I did the majority of growing up. A brotha was always "the hunted". I remember always asking guys who took me out to call me when they got home - just so I could be reassured they weren't getting harassed by OPD. I even dated an Oakland Police Officer and I remember one of his friends (also a cop) being beaten by HIS OWN COLLEAGUES, because he answered a robbery call while leaving work from his duties as an undercover cop.
He even identified himself to the white cops getting ready to get in that ass, and even after they pulled his credentials, they proceeded to beat the shyt out of him, anyway.

OPD thought they would bury it. My ex's friend sued and won a $500K settlement from the Police Department, where he worked until he retired a couple of years ago.

I say all that to say that if OPD will BEAT one of THEIR OWN brethren because he's POC, the BART cops are more likely to shoot one of us in the back and think no one's watching their ass. I hope the families of both men get FAT PAID, and the Federal Government places both organizations under Federal Decree to mandate their actions and shut down shyt and start levying heavy fines when they violate it.

Money for violations is the only thing these MOFOS understand.

whiterosebuddy The post at that link requires a lot of focus and reading of all the links in the post. I did not have the luxury of the time to do so. My overall sense though of the post is that these folks are just trying to make a federal case of prognostication about what the cabinet picks mean in terms of how Obama wil govern.

I feel they are simply too intense far too early and that the goal is simply to OBJECT. That is due to the last 8 years of divisive political discourse in the media and on talk radio.

I am ready to get beyond that. Furthermore, I am going to give Obama a lot of slack because I do believe the man is a visionary and in the end it is not going to matter what baggage those folks bring to the table. Obama is going to slice and dice those folks and synthesize the data in an entirely diffferent manner which the country and folks like Bowers are unprepared for and unable to predict.

Anyone, watching Obama to date could discern as much...this man has not travelled a conventional path to the top and he is not going to govern in a traditional manner that could be inferred by previously valid measures of determining how he will lean. Obama is a pragamatist first and foremost and I suspect that folks like Bowers are going to find that out.

The country does not want to lean to the 'progressive left' we are a primarily socially center left and fiscally conservative center right nation.

And that is what Obama is. Thinking anything else is nothing but fool's errand. Since every single one of his cabinet and staff choices, do not get to do as they choose...instead they will implement and execute the plan Obama decides is the course of action.

Obama is so cool and imperturbable that white folks and pundits are clueless. The people who know him best are those who were on the campaign trail. Those happen to be the rookies and least senior people in news organization and network broadcasts, becasue they were assigned with the notion that Obama was a 'fluke' and would soon be out of the race.

What this means is that the senior analysts and senior correspondents don't know shyt about Obama and they are grasping at straws. Only when they decide to allow those 'junior rookies' to ascend up the ladder and write articles and give political analysis will we hear far greater insight about Obama and what the nuanced way he has of speaking and addressing topics really means.

Obama represents a huge paradigm shift in political thinking and how he will govern. Analysts have not caught up yet, they are still working from the old paragdigm and frustrated by it not being effective, thus they write critical articles with unsubstantive analysis.

Folks like Bowers are clueless, no matter how much data he pulls up. It does not apply to Obama, cause he is a politically unique animal.
