hm.. I do like this theme. a lot actually. however i do think it can be improved upon. my only problem are some of the background pictures look the crap. low res, and faded. you could either improve the bad backgrounds, or remove/replace. As for your hard work.. when the background lands on a good picture it looks great!

hm... That's actually a cool theme. I like it, but the only problem is with the backgrounds. Some of the backgrounds look like crap, like low res graphics, and faded quality, those are the only problem points I can find. I do think this is a cool theme when it lands on a good background though. Just remove/replace the bad backgrounds and it'll be pure awesomeness!!!!!11!onez

"Smug" was in reference not to anyone involved in the project, but simply to those who might brag about having the world's tallest tower in a "my tower's bigger than yours" kinda way. The desire for the building to be the tallest, I suspect, also explains the use of turbines instead of photovoltaics - the tower's only 1,500 feet without the turbine housing and spire. Residents of Martha's Vineyard have recently been protesting the construction of a wind farm in Nantucket Sound, so unfortunately offshore turbines remain a tricky sell.

That's what we were thinking, Phila. Adding an extra appliance never saves energy, but getting more out of an appliance is something we like to see. In a perfect world, our energy would come from a renewable source like a solar system, and the energy consumption wouldn't be as concerning a factor (Phila's blog suggests a solar version of the Dolphin - right on!). Until then, use what can work for you AND the environment - if you need to humidify the air, give this one a miss.

Though the pictures show only one bike stored, Bike Tree will actually store multiple bikes (one in each of those little grooves). You can actually see a second one on its way up in the extended post photo. Cool, isn't it?

Design w/o Reach seems to me to get right at the idea of proximity to the buyer: being able to pick up a fruit bowl at the store is within reach; fashioning your own version with chopsticks and a rubber band doesn't require reaching at all. But it is a parody, and if the shoe fits....

It seems like this would be solved simply by introducing a green space requirement into the legislation. The dense areas could surround extended if narrow parks or ravines, or where the builders prefers, some of the green space could be introduced into roofs or parking/driving areas. Designing around somewhat wild boat/skating paths would improve transportation, give people wildly more access to the natural world , and introduce habitat that is of a higher quality than that in most suburbs. I also think it is important to design in spaces where people can garden. This doesn't seem to be an indictment of density, only of bad design.

The real advantage lies in flipping the math you just did. While 0.113 watts of electrical energy is not worth much to us, we frequently use electricity to reduce physical effort.

Doing physical tasks physically rather than using electricity can save useful amounts of electricity. Push mowers, transportation, cleaning by hand treadle sewing machines, and treadle anything are all great examples of technologies that use human energy to do useful things.

Add to this the increased energy and health that comes from physical work and yes human energy is a great alternative to electrical energy.

My husband and I had PV installed last year... we are fortunate that our utility in Colorado provides a 50% subsidy of grid-tied PV installations. We are getting bids for solar hot water/hot water heating right now... we'd like to get that done before the federal subsidy expires.

I also find this story sad. I feel for the poor guy, but I feel more for his poor kids. He said at one point "I hope they know I love them". How can they when you abondon them? But he also says he knows they are better off without him. The man needs help.

What I can't believe is that she sat there warning him and then left him in the same room unsupervised. I can pretty much guarantee if I told my son "Don't do ___", he would go do ___ as soon as I was out of sight. The curiosity is just too much for tiny kids like that!

As horrible as it sounds, I actually don't think it's a bad thing. I'd much rather see them drop off an older child than abuse him or her, or neglect them or whatever. But I feel terrible for the child. Hopefully, they will get some counseling or something from the state too as I can't imagine being abondoned by their parents at such an age won't have an effect on their emotionally/spiritual health.

You sound fun. However, I played a bit. To me, Enchanted Island is a extremely boring and dull game. There is no live action. Everything is not movable and remains in the same spot. Their UI definitely needs a lot of improvement They need to do animations too. And there are limited quests. Thus, they have to do more mind-digging to develop more stories attached to the quests. A few people I know have already left the game because of no more new quests available. Keep doing 2 spells at every 15 minutes for level-up is a boring event.
