Where else have I seen someone promote the 20 percent time rule? oh yeah, here!

But really, I completely agree more companies need to do it. I'm jealous to hear you're working in a place that seems to "get it."

Re: Central PA Social Media Share

OK, I'll bite:

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=9303967
Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/bydanielvictor
Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24519047@N00/
LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/danielvictor

Those are the only ones I actually use. The Knight News Challenge was overwhelmed with applications. My favorite to come out of last year's challenge was Spot.us, which is a fascinating concept, even if I'm skeptical that it'll work on a large scale.

But I do think you're going to see more and more journalists leave news organizations to try to start up a new model on their own. I don't think we'll see it in central Pennsylvania just yet, but you're right: Since newspapers have taken their sweet time, the future business model is there for the taking. No journalism experience necessary.

Re: Instant messaging may be past its prime

I was really surprised to see, after I graduated from college two years ago, how quickly my AIM use dropped. And it's not just because I'm using Twitter way too much -- most of my college friends have also stopped using AIM.

Aside from Facebook, the other main factor is the chat feature in Gmail. Can't overlook that.
