in Fear and English-Only in Nashvegas on WebSlog
Ah yes, I can't believe this thing actually gathered enough steam. Councilman Crafton (and ole Val) have played off the recent immigration issues of the last several months to encourage (manipulate?) people into believing that if this didn't happen the city of Nashville would be overran by those who don't speak English. The trouble is that the Music City is slowly becoming an international city instead of some metropolis of country music singing hillbillies. Hell, how many non-Southerners are in country music these days?

Growing up in the shadow of Atlanta, I've seen the struggles the city had to endure in overcoming the narrow-minded few who thought it would always just be a "Southern" city first. Think of what effect this "English-only" mandate could have had on Atlanta. Damn, there's no way it would be where it is now had those people overruled others. Oh, and compare Atlanta's progress to the ultra-intolerant city that I've also called home, Birmingham, AL. Yikes!

Lesson for Nashville is not to be scared of change...and others like you to let your voice be heard...because progressive thinking and acceptance can actually do a city good.

I should have read this first. My pregnant wife heard about this and had me stop by to pick up cheesecake to go...and there I verified that it was dine-in only. Oh well.

Thanks Christy! Glad you were able to make it, even if you didn't have your camera. Both of you should join us the next time we get together. It will probably be in September sometime.

in Tonight: Downtown Nashville Photowalk | Nashvillest on Nashvillest
Woohoo, thanks for mentioning this. So far it looks like we'll have close to 20 photographers showing up, which is a good size group. All are welcome, though, including those non-Flickr users. And of course, we'll make sure to post photos into the Nashvillest pool when we're done. Thanks again!

This is really weird and funny at the same time. Anyone notice the civil war soldiers walking in formation. WTF?

Anyways, just a reminder about the upcoming Nashville Flickr group photowalk tomorrow evening. We'll be gathering @ LP Field between 7-7:30pm.

I heard about this little project a few months back since Joey Ciccoline (Editor, Director, Producer) used to work for Griffin. Pretty funny stuff as long as you can deal with the long Matchbox 20 music intro only to watch the short 10 second episode segment.

I avoid Wally World as much as I can (except for when I'm visiting my parents in their sleepy GA town and have no other choice). Working for a product manufacturer has opened my eyes to all the crap they do to force lower prices in their stores. People want American made, but thanks to this American Retail Giant things must continuously be made cheaper to maintain business. I just don't like their business practices because I see how it affects my job just as it effects many others.

in Mixed Reviews: We Just Can’t Help Ourselves | Nashvillest on Nashvillest
Um, I think some of those Michiganers are staying on permanent vacation here. Do they calculate that? By the way, anytime I see a ranking I know its got to be better than my previous hometown of Birmingham (even if it's homeless rates or bad driving). Of course, rankings are cool if you're on top and bad if you're on the bottom, but otherwise do they really matter? On that note, I'm gonna go treat myself to a haircut from Nashville's #7 ranked barber shop...

My wife got me their book for Christmas. Very cool, especially if you're new to Nashville like we are. Helps you find those hidden gems that are usually a few blocks off the main drags.

That lil frog looks a bit creepy. The shot looks like a clip off a movie. Nicely done, craptasticphotog!

Well, it would already be a hard sell if this was Taco Hell, but with this offer coming from a burger joint like Jack in the Box, I think it's best for my health not to follow through with this free offer. Thanks, though!

So Chattanooga is clearing all this land despite a strong possibility that they're not the leading candidate for the site? A bit strange that 300 acres are being cleared with "hopes" that it may help VW decide. I honestly hope they get it, but just find the land clearing weird.

I remember watching the video of "Frozen @ Grand Central" right after it happened and thought it was so cool. I'm not sure Hillsboro Village is the "best" place to do this, but maybe the safest not to get clubbed over the head due to bystanders' confusion. Wish I could be there, but I'll be in Georgia this weekend. Looking forward to seeing photos and hopefully maybe even a video on here when I get back.

Ah man. I'd love to kick it dragon style on the river, but my wife already signed me up for the Hobo Soap Box Derby being held the same weekend. Just not sure the Hobos understand there's actually no soap involved.

The "redneck package" @ Hotel Preston is funny. Come on, it's so gimmicky that it might just be worth trying. I've known about this for a while since my wife works there.

Spoke with Rascal Flatts bassist, Jay DeMarcus today at the "Tracking Room", but no Gary LeVox or Joe Don Rooney. Did speak briefly to Jessica Simpson and hand off a few Griffin goodies. Surprisingly, she knows what an iPod is. At least she didn't confuse it with a Buffalo wing.

in Sob Stories: Hey Georgia, Leave Copperhill Alone | Nashvillest on Nashvillest
Although I'm a native Georgian, I'm appalled and ashamed of what my home state is doing to ensure more water is available for the growing beast known as Atlanta. Drought or no drought, this is an issue that the Corps of Engineers need to handle. Trying to reclaim another state's property is just a bad move. All I can say is..."get your own damn water!" :-)
