We need both MLS and USL to be strong long term either as a merged entity or working closer together to reach the full potential of club football in the US.

Let’s cheer for teams from both leagues and laud the accomplishments of both leagues going forward. This is what needs to be done.

Regarding undrafted's last point he is wrong. I know of several USL players that would have fit in a higher than 17th or 18th spot in MLS and got released either to bring in another foreign player or just to balance the cap. The 100k average salary is a joke. That includes the skewed DP numbers.

undrafted is extreme in his defense of MLS, but the USL types here saying MLS sucks need to heed my advice from above. Both leagues get ridiculed enough by the eurosnobs. No need to piss from within.

USL + MLS = strong American club game

USL vs MLS = self destruction

Re: MLS 2.0: Can it Work?

Look you guys seem to forget that SUM is the only reason from what I can tell that MLS is still in business. Kartik complains about the Mexican National Team games and Superliga but they have sustained the league.

USL is better run from a pure football perspective. I watch both leagues and honestly think the experience at a USL game is much better. It’s real passionate football. But MLS is a much better marketing entity than USL and has taken the best of American sports marketing and the best of the Premier League into one.

MLS is clever. American footy fan are just now becoming sophisticated enough to realize the league is essentially a fraud from a pure football standpoint. But to the casual fan who doesn’t know better and does not follow the international game, MLS will appear to be a major league with glitz and glamour while USL appears to be like Rookie League Baseball.

As Soccer fans we know USL in fact is in many ways better than MLS. But that’s not the point. For sure MLS is a con job of sorts but it’s working. SUM is the mothers milk of the whole deal.

Re: USL Quarterfinal Wrap

Montreal is such an impressive side. Good midfield and possession play as well as outstanding finishing ability thanks to Roberto Brown.

I would not be shocked if they go very deep in the Champions League.

Re: Is Bradley Dumping the Bucket?

Don't give Bradley credit until he actually makes this tactical change. Until then he is over his head..

Re: Whitecaps win USL-1 Title

USL does promote true competition. The league is quite honestly no different than MLS and the USSF which has allowed MLS Cup and the Open Cup Final to be held in stadiums where teams can be the home team.

Look I know the MLS fans led by this and other sites have a very shallow agenda of discrediting USL because all of a sudden the league is getting props and performing well in the Champions League.

In addition, the games are more entertaining if you like end to end football. If you like tactical buildup play, MLS is better. They are too different products and my blood boils when MLS fans rip USL for no reason without ever seeing a match and then get angry accusing people of being biased towards European leagues when they rip MLS without watching MLS.

Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Re: Cooper Snubs Bradley

I'm not sure why everyone is so fascinated with Cooper.

Personally I'd like to see White or Davies paired with Altidore up top.

Re: http://www.majorleaguesoccertalk.com/493/493

This is not good news. I hope Jester is right and these people are simply watching the other games on HD Net and Direct Kick on Saturday nights.

Re: MLS TV Ratings Worrying

MLS has become more and more a waste of time the last few years. I'm not even watching the playoffs myself, and I used to live for the league.

Re: Give Shannon Time: Patience Required

This reads like a "please support us" fundraising letter from a team that is losing every game.

Oh yeah that team would be the Canes.

Kartik, as for you this is a new low. Simply pathetic.

Hiring a head coach who had no experience and no business ever coaching is one thing. To continue to defend him is almost criminal. Butch Davis? How could you compare Shannon to him? Butch had so much more coaching experience than Shannon. What a pathetic comparison.

Re: Give Shannon Time: Patience Required

This entire post was classic b/s and spin until the part about the Dolphins and that was absolutely classic!
