in How Many Hours Can You Write? on Writing White Papers
I'm not even close to a professional writer. I haven't gotten paid for anything since I was writing term papers for engineering majors in college! But my normal routine is to get up at 5 and spend a couple two or three hours writing on my blogs before I get my day going.

Of course now I am on vacation and am really working hard on some other projects so I haven't written in a week. Sheesh!

And my approach to writers block is a little unorthodox, I guess. When I have a blank (which is more often than not, actually) I pray and ask God what He wants me to write. And it works for me whether I'm writing on more religious themes or not.

I don't remember Pizza Hut having crazy bread back then, but I could almost hear the synapses shorting out when I'd ask, "Do you want fries with that?"

I had a similar experience when I was in the Navy and my apartment phone number was only 1 digit off from Pizza Hut. I got chronically frustrated by the sheer volume of folks who wouldn't believe me when I told them they'd dialed the wrong number.

The only workable solution I could eventually find was to take the orders.

I'm guessing that they probably actually dialed the right number when they called to complain about not getting their pizza, because I don't remember ever getting a complaint.

OK, so maybe I wouldn't recommend that approach now. But I'm just saying...

in Instant Gratification Society (aka ‘I want something for nothing’) on Writing White Papers
I mean not that I wasn't looking for some scam or short cut back when I was in college myself, mind you.

But if someone had pointed out to me thinking like the proverb that says, "Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty," instead of letting me discover it for myself I might have figured it out a little quicker.

Then again I might have just plowed stubbornly along anyway until I got burned enough by my mistakes...

Mike,

Perhaps you could refer them to the definition of consequence.

Or maybe you could share a little philosophy with them, "Those unwilling to work will not get to eat."

I'm just sayin'...

in Remembering 9/11 2001 - Where Were You? on Writing White Papers
That Tuesday was my day off. I had slept in and was doing some morning reading when one of my wife's girlfriends called and told us to turn on CNN. I went to school in the Bronx so I lived there for 4 years. Most days we could see the towers from campus.

I was completely glued to the TV until after the second tower fell. At that point I went in to work to relieve one of the guys I worked with. He and I went to the same school and I knew his brother was a NYC Cop. I figured my buddy wouldn't be able to concentrate on work very well worrying so I went in and sent him home.

Fortunately it turned out his brother was going to detective school and the NYPD wouldn't let any of them out of the building after the planes hit. Being in school may have saved his life.

Michael, I'm afraid too many actually are forgetting. They don't want to be reminded how vulnerable we really are and how much vigilance it takes to keep us safe.

Michael, welcome to our crazy little community over at S-B. I'm glad you stopped by so I got a chance to see what you've got over here.

I just subscribed and am looking forward to gleaning from what you have to say.

Enjoy!

You make a very good point Aaron. Unless folks take responsibility for themselves and stop blaming others they are unlikely to see their situation improve. Our found fathers understood that principle.

I got to see Perry Noble speak at Seacoast last week. Talk about a powerful message about Purpose! I'm really looking forward to seeing it again this week via video back at our home campus here in Savannah!

He looks especially big standing next to Greg Surratt for some reason...

Oh, and he must have left his pink T-shirt home. ;)

I went to Vegas for the first time last year to go to a conference with my wife.

The M&M; store is way cool! Four floors of chocolate heaven…

I would be just fine never going back. There are no coffee pots in the hotel rooms!!!! I was grumpy for the first day or two because we didn't budget an extra $10 a day to buy coffee at one of the shops down stairs.

Lots of weird stuff to see there, though.

Congratulations on a job well done! And without directions like you had for the grill assembly even. You had me roaring reading this, nearly a coffee out the nose score first thing in the morning. Thanks for sharing!

in Good for Nothing Websites on TonyMorganLive.com
Not only does your site have to have useful services or good and updating content to keep them coming back. People need to know what is there.

As an example, I am part of a distance campus whose main church is a couple hours away in another state. A couple of our core leaders didn't realize that they could give online through the church web site. And these are guys that do all thier banking online.

If they don't know what is there, they won't show up either.

Is this like the Price is Right? If so, then my guess is 3 hours and 29 minutes!

Thanks for the posite feedback. Sometiimes it can be hard to gauge how we are doing while we focus on our own aras Sunday after Sunday. It is good to hear from someone who sees the whole picture. Sorry I didn't get a chance to shake your hand. (I was the guy at the video table).

And thanks for the reminder to keep the main thing the main thing.
