Speaking of advances. These experiments in fusion look promising. IF it works we could have fusion (in a test reactor) in 6 years. Power plants in about 10 to 12 years.

If war is not the answer some one ought to tell the Philistines that lobbing rockets into Israel is not the answer. Some how only the Israelis seem to get blamed. A look at the work of the Mufti of Jerusalem with the Austrian Corporal might give a hint as to the mind set of the Philistines.
Re: Iraq. After much pain and suffering Iraq has a much better government than it has had for a very long time. A recent poll before our Nov elections showed Iraqis favoring McCain because they expected him to extend Bush's policies. Perhaps the view here in America is slanted by our dying media.
BTW re: investing - look for businesses that will do well in an inflationary environment.

M.Simon,
I blame both sides in the recent violence. As I said, I'm not an expert. But it seems rockets and shock and awe isn't the answer
You and will have to disagree about iraq.
I don't like the argument that we are winning the war in iraq. The question is should there have been a war in iraq in the first place. I despise the idea we can invade other countries on flimsy evidnce that costs trillions and kills hundreds of thousands of people. What other countries should we invade.
You will also have to pls show me the link where iraqis were in favor of mccain. Everything I read suggest they want us out of their country.

in The conscience of a liberal: why I am considering abstaining in the Iraqi War Referendum vote… on Intelligent Discontent
Is it really "progressive" to abandon the democrats in Iraq?
In my youth we had a president who said:
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty. - John F. Kennedy
That used to be the progressive position.
It is still mine.

Qana may be faked this way:
The Jerusalem Post says Qana may have been totally staged.
It is also a story about bloggers.

BTW we may know where the dead bodies came from. See the A.J. Strata link at the above location
Or it may be faked this way:
The Hizbollah story of Qana is unraveling further.
A French language Lebanese publication, citing an unnamed source in Hezbollah, has claimed that the organization placed a rocket launcher on the roof of the notorious building in Qana to provoke an Israeli attack and brought invalid children inside to serve as victims and blacken Israel's name.
The wheels are coming off.

The fact that the children are handicapped is definite.

Yeah.
And what I want to know is why the Right is not up in Arms about Clinton's use of torture. They called it "rendition".
Clinton sent people to bad places for torture and the Right is practically silent.
I think they are hiding something.
We lefties have to hold their feet to the fire on this one.
My God. Torture. Approved by the President. Has the Right no shame?

in This is not good on Broadband Politics
In times of disorder it is necessary for the staff of institutions to protect the institutions.
I know this goes against the left's disdain for self defence (less so after 9/11).
The lesson none the less is instructive.
I have read that the staff of a hospital in Iraq guarded it until a neighborhood watch was constituted. Too bad the musem curators were not so dedicated to their institution.
We must take the view that it is a good thing to have fellow citizens who are armed and dangerous about in times of disorder. Such citizens reduce the amount and length of disorder.

The Bush administration is trying to make the left out to be a bunch of anti-war dopers. (Reading from Nixon's play book?)
There by strengthening the war on drugs.
BTW I'm on the right and truly miss the support of a pro American left. This war has split every movement where the right and the left saw their interests coincide.
Such a shame.

What they're actually doing is fusion on a small scale... nothing that powers turbines, etc. and will not be generating electricity for consumption. They're using it to study the process of fusion, among other things.
Fusion is one of those "holy grails of science/engineering", and I think some people are waiting for some proof before fully funding it... this may be one of those instances of proof needed.
