in Is blogging worth it? What’s the ROI? on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen

Don't know if this matters, but I hardly ever visit your site... I tend to read blogs in a reader and only visit when I want to leave a comment (like this!)...

Do your stats give you the number of RSS followers of your blog?

Hi! I got my invite today as well... but have messed up the search for my blog and so forth... It searched Technorati for Neil Winton rather than nwinton, so it's not found all of my online references/existences...

Have you found anyway of resetting it/starting from fresh?

This is fascinating stuff! I would have put EL as the largest blogging authority... yet A&B takes the prize.

I think it's a bit disappointing about the number of authorities who don't have any active bloggers at the moment, but this will hopefully change soon.

Thanks for this!

Robert,

You deserve a break, but if you're looking for a project to sink your teeth into, and to (just possibly) fire up your juices, try reading some of the great edubloggers to see the problems that schools everywhere are having in adopting and embedding the new tech that you have championed for so long. People like Christan Long, Ewan McIntosh (ask Shel Israel about him), Will Richardson, David Warlick, Stephen Downes and Chris Sessums could probably give you a fresh perspective and way of looking at so much of what you take for granted as a 'tech-head'.

Goodness knows that education could use someone with your skills and knowledge base to help gt things moving a little quicker!

Whatever you decide, all the best with the new kid on the block and if you don't mind, I'm going to keep you in my RSS feed just in case you feel like saying something! ;)

in Did Digg link here? on Scobleizer
Don't know how relevant this is, but I posted a negative comment about Mr Neilsen on the e-consultancy poll results page and 24 hours later it has been removed. Obviously we are not allowed to criticize such an exalted human being...

Or maybe they'd all rather keep Web 1.0 while pretending to be 2.0!

in Thank you to all the service men and women on Scobleizer
Robert,
Heart-felt sentiments, and very worthy irrespective of the politics of any given conflict.

An associated issue is the UK treatment of the Gurkhas, most notably Tul Bahadur Pun who holds the VC (Victoria Cross) for bravery and yet hs been denied entry to the UK. Sometimes it is hard to feel proud about the way we treat those to whom we owe an unpayable debt...

Never mind focusing on simple tasks... I can't even focus on the keyboard... it was supposed to be ROTFLMAO...

As a rule, I avoid doing LOL & co... but:
" * Realise I have something to do on the computer
* Turn on computer
* Machine boots up into Linux and shows 20 unread emails and 5 software updates available
* …
* …
* Remember that there was something I was supposed to be doing
* Maybe get it done"

FOTFLMAO...

I love the graphic! And I know what you mean... I'm in the middle of S4 folios and Higher prlims... I've also got a 19 month old who doesn't like sleeping... and it's a long time until I can come up for air.

There is LOTS I'd like to be doing, most of it productive too, but Christmas to Easter is a real stinker, and I just know I'll be up to my neck and feeling vaguely dissatisfied for most of it...

Blogging is a phenomenal tool, but jotters don't mark themselves... yet... (Actually, my brother had the idea of sub-contracting our marking to an Indian <strike>call</strike>mark centre... sometimes I think it might not be such a bad idea!)

I think that it is no coincidence that so many people look to East Lothian for inspiration... I'm torn between looking for jobs in EL, and the promise of making a difference in my current authority...

With regards to the point of persuading the powers-that-be, I'm not sure that persuasion or complaining will work with them if it is coming from the bottom -> up. If more of them took a more hands on approach to Web2.0 (like Don in East Lothian then I think we could see more movement... or at the very least... some discussion.

If you look around the edublogosphere, there seems to be one group in particular missing from the discussion: the people who take the decisions to block... until this changes, I fear we are having limited impact!

Don't know if it's too late, but a good technique is to record the rest of the play/act/scene without your bits, then play it through on an iPod (NB: Other players are available)... Effective, and makes a pleasant change for the other people on the bus/train instead of the usual atonal singing. :)

in The Glow Mugs Glow! on Jonesieblog
I overheard a wearer of one of the infamous GLOW shirts complaining that the letters on the shirts were originally supposed to be luminous but apparently they couldn't get the right colours! Now that would have been a site to see!

Cheers,
Neil W

PS: Am I being stupid (very likely!), but I can't see the RSS feed for your blog. What am I missing?

in Amazon next Google? Maybe not… on Scobleizer
It's going to be very interesting to see what (if anything) is announced by Steve Jobs on Tuesday. Disney content is in the bag (one assumes), but it will be the deal he has struck with the other studios that will be the making of the service.

Let's hope they realise that the Amazon model is not the way to go... in fact, the Apple model may not be much better, but we can hope.
