in Oracle-Related Facebook Apps and Twitter Updates on Oracle AppsLab
@Ali: Sorry, but I don't think I can personally help you.
Maybe in a year or so, your company will change its mind. That's how it went for IM in the early days; IT banned it as time waster, but eventually, it became an obvious productivity tool.
Good luck.

@Alex: You've been out there a long time. I think Twitter went live in October 2006, so you're definitely a long-time user, even if you don't use it very much.
I agree that Eddie has done a lot to popularize Twitter among Oracle folks. He draws together the community at large and employees.
We'll be using Twitter again this year at OOW to keep tabs on each other and the conference. Stay tuned.

in How OraNA.info Aggregates Blogs.Oracle.com on Eddie Awad’s Blog
FYI, non MT blogs, like ours are not yet aggregated into blogs.oracle.com. I think Carl Backstrom is also in that boat, since his is Blogger.
Please keep the non-MT blogs in OraNA.info. I will buy you lunch at your restaurant of choice here or during OOW :)

in Imitation as Flattery on Oracle AppsLab
@Anonymous: I don't read Famy's blog, but it pops up in my Google Alert for 'appslab'. Even if the content is copied from MetaLink, some would argue that's a plus, since MetaLink isn't indexed by search engines, leaving that content locking away behind a login wall.
Meh.

@harishchandra: I don't really understand the question. You can search for people you know and view profiles in orkut. Pretty standard feature.

in Orkut, Jaiku, Google . . . Gesundheit on Oracle AppsLab
@PJ there's no way that I can find to import contacts from anywhere, even in CSV or vCard form. I wonder about the commitment level of Google to orkut b/c you'd think they'd want to add services to it. I did notice a GTalk tab integration that I think is new, but Firefox didn't like the link.

@Shishir: Feed scribs tend to rise and fall for no apparent reason. We have posted content from outside the 'Lab in the past. Remember Puneet? He now has his own blog. I've invited others to post guest contributions in the past as well.
I assume you still work for Oracle, so if this is your way of asking to contribute, drop me an email with your suggested content, and I will review it.

@Jim: The first one, heatmap, is one I like. It's very applicable to any kind of data. O'Reilly has one for books that I've seen. We talked about this for measuring internal data.
The second one is trippy. Cool stuff.

@David: Also my top enhancement. I thought that's what logging in would get me, but no dice. Probably soon though.
I ran TweetCloud too. I think "dude" and "lulz" were among the largest, just adding more reason to follow me for the scintillating content, lulz.

@David: Definitely, beer sounds good. Are you good enough to tell what type of conference is at Moscone just by the attendees wandering around your neighborhood? That would be an interesting trick.

in Good UI or New Web Hubris? on Oracle AppsLab
@Ted: Thanks for sharing your experiences. Did you know Paul used to run PeopleSoft Portal? I think Rich was a developer on that product too.
UI is an 80/20 problem. There are so many types and levels of users that it's virtually impossible to please everyone. I used to do technical consulting, which included Form design/build in R11 EBS. It was surprisingly tough to please even a handful of users with a Form built totally to their specs.
That's UI for you. We did keep the pen, albeit within a button.

@Michael: Like I said, I'll see what I can do.
@Shishir: I agree. You should write a strongly-worded letter to Tim O'Reilly. I think other cities may feel the same way, since most of the tech conferences are in the Bay Area.

Stay tuned, we're doing more cool stuff, or I should say ENTP is doing it.

in Rocky Mountain, Hi on Oracle AppsLab
@Justin: Google and Salesforce have advanced the ASP model. By your definition, SFDC is an enterprise app for business-critical data, and it's outsourced and managed in the cloud. Google Apps can handle enterprise data from SFDC, so even by a narrow definition, these are enterprise apps.
I don't think (and didn't say) Google would kill MSFT. They're very smart to pitch themselves as complimentary and not competitive with the Office business. MSFT recognizes the threat though, and so should all enterprise software companies.
I concede your point that some businesses will never go into the cloud. For them, Google can go with on-premise appliances like the Mini and GSA.

@Puneet: Thanks for scratching an itch that's been bugging me for 10 years.
@Amanda: D'oh, I had to bail yesterday evening, so I didn't get wander the booths. I have seen your site briefly in the past; thanks for the link love. Have you seen Eddie's OracleCommunity, which is also hosted on Ning? You could cross-pollenate information between the two communities. More is better.
Maybe we can catch up at OpenWorld.

Please let me know the link for the wiki to sync my iphone with collabsuite.
Thanks in advance.
