I'm not sure I can generate an entire list--you've named many of my current faves (Wilco, Amy Winehouse). But here are a couple: Pela's "Lost to the Lonesome" is a great song. I'm not sure how old it is, but the entire Arcade Fire CD Neon Bible is great (especially "Intervention"). And I continue to like the Silversun Pickups (again, their CD has been around for a few months). I'll try to think of some others....

I didn't write about this last night because I threw that entry together as I was going to bed, but the Hot4Hill video is definitely playing with the right-wing rumors that Hillary's a lesbian, which makes it even more interesting.

The use of children was certainly strange, especially given the video's sexual imagery. I've been wondering when someone would make a similar Guiliani, McCain, or Romney video. In fact, in the political mashup article I've been co-writing, I've found it difficult to find any interesting voter-generated ads supporting Republican candidates, which probably means something (at the very least, I'm hoping it's a good sign for 2008).

Sadly, I'm not sure it's possible for the US election system to get any more cynical. What's interesting is that even though Obama Girl is a satire, the actress who plays Obama Girl has now endorsed...Obama.

I do worry about that cynicism, but I'm not sure these videos are any more or less cynical than Dana Carvey mocking George H. W. Bush on Saturday Night Live in the 1980s and '90s.

The Marylin comparison is interesting, too, but it's a little flawed in that JFK more or less openly embraced the connection with Marylin while Obama, Hill, and Rudy have distanced themselves from their various "crushes."
