You make an excellent point about the decline of quality on digg.

The real revolution in social media resides with sites that have high customization. On Digg, there's one front page and what doesn't make it to the front page gets lost forever, never seeing the light of day.

On Mixx.com, the user has the option of creating a group with whatever theme they want. This allows literally anyone to find something of interest. There are hundreds of groups themed anything from apple fans to gay pride.

I'm really biased because I love mixx, but I don't work for them. I'm just a happy user who loves good content.

By the way, I came to this site because someone had submitted your article to mixx. I'd never been here before.

Re: Is the Media Promoting Teen Pregnancy?

Wow, I'm amazed at the thoughtful writing is this blog and the thoughtful responses you receive.

I've very grateful for the sex ed I recieved in school, but not everyone paid attention and some kids were not allowed to go to sex ed class because their parents refused. People freak out over a young girl getting pretend-raped in a movie which promotes awareness, but they don't care at all about the continued objectification and demoralization of women in main stream movies. Women are so frequently displayed as physically and morally weak next to physically and morally strong men, but when the tables are turned it's the end of the world.

Re: This is What McCain/Palin Supporters Look (and Act) Like

I plan on voting for Obama because I believe his policies are more progressive, but honestly when I talk to other Obama supporters they don't seem much more informed than some of these people. But they haven't looked over his voting record, or read his wikipedia page on his political positions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_position...). This is certainly a touchy subject for people. I admire their dedication to their faith, but alienating people is not an effective way to practice medicine or faith.

When I was 14 my best friend (age 15) got pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. She had a lot of things going on, and often times didn't respect herself enough to use birth control. When she asked me to go to the clinic with her, I was supportive and not condescending. I think she was very grateful for that, and we are still friends to this day. Having religious language sewn through our governmental documents doesn't make the country more religious. The US as a whole has rejected true religion, but for some bizarro reason we feel the need to project the appearance of religion, even if it's not sincere.

Whether you are religious or not, you should not be persecuted or forced to do something that goes against your beliefs. So if Obama wants to say it then he shouldn't be forced not to. However, I believe a Christian should express their beliefs with their actions, not their words (so it says in the bible). Seeing as how these particular words are so offensive to atheists, and really make no difference to God, having them included does more harm than good.

Re: Bush Declares January 18 as ‘Sanctity of Human Life Day’

what about the lives of the children in Iraq? Digg might be profitable for marketers, but it is not profitable for digg because, regardless of how big it is, it's still not as mainstream as myspace or facebook. There's been research to suggest that adequate exposure sunlight has a lot of psychological benefits, so if you're not getting enough sun maybe it's time to go back :)

calinazarets last blog post..NO on Prop 8

Re: it doesn’t want a title

Beautiful. tragic. strangely fulfilling to read.

Re: proposition 8 and the politics of hate

Nice piece! You are a very passionate writer. I really hope and pray that prop 8 doesn't pass, but I'm preparing myself for the worse.

I think there has been a great surge in the popularity of what I call "cultural christianity." Cultural christianity is really just cultural values labeled as christianity to lend it more validity, but it has little in common with what true Christianity is supposed to be about. True Christianity is the following of Jesus Christ, a man who loved all people (yes, even the gay ones!) and died so that we could be spared.

I think cultural christians feel like they have to pick a fight in order to prove how awesome and righteous they are, but often times they haven't even studied the bible or the teachings of Christ. At the end of the day, this issue has very little to do with God and everything to do with culture. Jesus didn't even talk about homosexuality; trust me, I've scoured the bible for that specific thing. On the other hand, there are so many things Jesus did expressly say were wrong that aren't illegal (adultery, greed, lying) so why are people in such a snit about gay marriage? Because it grosses them out, they just don't want to admit it.

Someday gay marriage will be permanently legal, I just hope I live to see it.

Julie´s last blog post..NO on Prop 8

Re: Quantum Entanglements: The Social Media Scandals

You're so awesome, dotlizard! My blog is just my opinions about pointless junk and it doesn't matter if five people read it. I like Pam and Jim because it seems like television is almost totally devoid of long-lasting, committed relationships where both people are completely in love with each other. It gives me smiles!
