Ok, I totally admit that it makes me just a little gleeful to think about child molesters getting theirs in prison . . . but I don't think of it as part of being in prison. Anyway, you're right. I need to make some realizations I think.

in Prop 8 Decision Day: California Upholds Discrimination on Menstrual Poetry
Yeah, this is pretty damn unbelievable. I can't even begin to fathom how a state in the midwest (Iowa) legalized gay marriage before mine did. At least they didn't outlaw the existing marriages I guess we can be grateful for that much.

in Women Step Out of the Closet of Shame & Start Talking Openly About Periods on Menstrual Poetry
It's about damn time! I loved Inga Muscio's book Cunt: A Declaration of Independence and her thoughts on why women have been trained to be ashamed of their bodies. It was a really eye-opener and a very good read.

I absolutely love that book! It's my favorite and for good reason. Inga Muscio speaks out about the bullshit women have to take in their lifetime just because of their gender. It is definitely a must-read for every woman.

in Mixx: A Plea for Help on The Lost Jacket
well, with all due respect, perhaps the problem of web startups these days is that they cater to the web marketers far too much without enough thought for the mainstream users. Digg might be profitable for marketers, but it is not profitable for digg because, regardless of how big it is, it's still not as mainstream as myspace or facebook. Mixx has the potential to get there precisely because it targets the user, not the marketer.

in Should “So Help Me God” be Banned? on Menstrual Poetry
As the resident religious nut, I'll say that it doesn't matter at all to me whether the religious language is included. Having religious language sewn through our governmental documents doesn't make the country more religious. The US as a whole has rejected true religion, but for some bizarro reason we feel the need to project the appearance of religion, even if it's not sincere.
Whether you are religious or not, you should not be persecuted or forced to do something that goes against your beliefs. So if Obama wants to say it then he shouldn't be forced not to. However, I believe a Christian should express their beliefs with their actions, not their words (so it says in the bible). Seeing as how these particular words are so offensive to atheists, and really make no difference to God, having them included does more harm than good.

I agree with you on the spam part--that's a real bummer, but mixx not having a designated landing page is the most important part of what makes it unique. Changing it to make it more like digg or reddit would do just that . . . make it more like digg or reddit.
The commenter above me suggested in the mixxingbowl forums that users be able to customize their landing page wich would be cool.
Thanks for your comments!

I understand the need for individuality and the desire to be different from Reddit and Digg...however, the benefits for bloggers, marketers, and content producers alike (asides from creating awesome content) is traffic driving. I've had a few posts from the The Lost Jacket go "popular" on Mixx and it resulted in probably 15 total visits. That kind of traffic just doesn't cut it. I hate to say it...but in order to compete and be relevant with me it needs to be able to drive more traffic.

in Bloggers in Pajamas, Sarah Palin Hates You on Menstrual Poetry
I think Sarah Palin is playing an endless game of "yes means no and no means yes." Remember that from kindergarten? Because at times her version of "the truth" has been highly amusing. Given her version of the truth, I'm happy to be putting out her version of gossip and lies.

in Keith Olbermann at His Finest on Menstrual Poetry
One of the most interesting reasons I heard for people voting yes on 8 was that they "don't want homosexuality taught in schools." I actually heard that over and over again, but there was nothing about schools or children in the entire issue.
What I think it all boils down to is the fact that the yes on 8'ers had more money to wage a massive television campaign, and there are more people who are stupid enough to believe commercials than there are people who think critically about their actions

in After Gay Bashing, Mormon Leaders Call for Civility, Respect and Love on Menstrual Poetry
Ah, the mormons. It's seems pretty damn ironic to me that they would push for marriage being between one man and one woman when they were they great proprietors of polygamy in this country. We have the great state of Utah to thank for them being kicked out of the rest of the country due to their bizarre definition of marriage.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plural_marriage
They're just a bunch of crazy fucking hypocrites who waged a successful battle of ignorance and hate, but ignorance and hate are losing the greater war for equal rights.

Very well-written post, as always! This is certainly a touchy subject for people. I admire their dedication to their faith, but alienating people is not an effective way to practice medicine or faith.
When I was 14 my best friend (age 15) got pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. She had a lot of things going on, and often times didn't respect herself enough to use birth control. When she asked me to go to the clinic with her, I was supportive and not condescending. I think she was very grateful for that, and we are still friends to this day. If someday she wants to become a part of my faith, the bridge is still open rather than burned down forever.

in I Would Suggest that Cindy McCain Change Shoes with Any Middle Class American on Menstrual Poetry
I totally don't understand how "supporting the troops" equals "making them fight a war no one believes in until they all die." The McCain campaign is exactly like in the book 1984 where the government just makes it up as they go along, and people eat it up because they're oppressed or idiots or both.

in This is What McCain/Palin Supporters Look (and Act) Like on Menstrual Poetry
For example, if I ask other Obama supporters why they like Obama, they will sometimes say something about him standing for change. But they haven't looked over his voting record, or read his wikipedia page on his political positions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_position...). That, if you think about it, is really just regurgitating a tag line; it's not being informed.
Anyway, it does seem like McCain supporters have a greater tendency to be hilariously stupid. I've never seen a video with hilariously stupid liberals, so maybe that in and of itself means something.

I plan on voting for Obama because I believe his policies are more progressive, but honestly when I talk to other Obama supporters they don't seem much more informed than some of these people. I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

in Hounddog on Menstrual Poetry
It's really strange what people think of as being acceptable or unacceptable. People freak out over a young girl getting pretend-raped in a movie which promotes awareness, but they don't care at all about the continued objectification and demoralization of women in main stream movies. Women are so frequently displayed as physically and morally weak next to physically and morally strong men, but when the tables are turned it's the end of the world.

in Vote No on Prop 8 on Menstrual Poetry
I was raised by two lesbians and I ended up being a relatively traditional Christian person. I think it's silly that this is even being voted on. Most people would be appalled at being told who they can marry. It's a basic human right; love who you want to love.
I will say that not all religious people are the way you're generalizing them here. I'm more than willing to talk about my beliefs to someone who's interested, but I understand that some people are happy just the way they are.
