in What 9 Days Of Flu Taught Me About Career And Life on Daniel Richard
It may have not been the flu, but the time that you spent recovering that led to the realization that you needed change. I have some of my biggest revelations at times when I can't do a single thing, whether because I'm sick or whatever is going on.

in How To Break Free From The 3 P’s Of Evil: Procrastination, Power Porn, and Paralysis From Over Analysis on Daniel Richard
Paralysis from over analysis... that's what holds up a lot of my blog posts. I write them, and then I spend at least an hour hoarding over grammatical issues and what things I may have left out. I would be more productive if I let my control-freakishness down a bit.

Haha. I think I should spend more time (in my blog) clearing grammatical errors, and choosing more appropriate words to allow the post to flow smoothly.
It's good to have that habit to proofread (maybe not till the extend of being control-freakish). That's how you can build up a fantastic blog right? :)

in Twitter Safety Tips on Extreme John
Definitely great tips, especially about the shortened URL's. I have Firefox NoScript plugin to *hopefully* prevent any scripts running on my machine when I accidentally click on a malicious site. It's a bit annoying in other areas, but otherwise does its job.

in Computers, The Web And How Far We've Come on In A Cool Hour
I would want to see less spam. :) Seriously, I would like to see better internet on our mobile phones, and something to make any website easy to convert to mobile. I don't know how many times I've been in a crunch and needed info from a major site while on my cell, and couldn't get anywhere. Interesting videos!

Yay! Let's hear it for less spam! :)
I agree about phones, but what I'd like to see is a total evolution of the whole platform—away from PC vs. Mac, iPhone vs. Windows Mobile... basically a browser sitting on an OS. Perhaps I'm dreaming, but I look forward to the day when the OS is irrelevant and the web becomes ubiquitous. Once we break free of the current model, I think we'll see smarter handheld devices, assuming they resolve the ergonomic and UI issues as well. Realistically, will it happen in our lifetime? :)

Indeed... it pays to have your camera everywhere you go, because you never know when you will come across the perfect photo opportunity. I carried my camera with me for days to work for no apparent reason, and it paid off when I found a hummingbird nest in a tree nearby.

I agree completely. While I admit I don't always have my good cameras with me, I always make sure I've got something I can grab a photo with... my phone if nothing else, though that wouldn't do much vs. a hummingbird. Did you post that shot anywhere? Love to see it!

in How to monetize your blog by selling your own product on How To Make My Blog
I've been thinking about publishing books with my photography. It's in the early, early planning process.
I think as far as affiliate marketing goes, I agree that you should advertise products that you have or would use only. It maintains your credibility with your readers.
Look forward to hearing more about your ebook!

I did that for a while, but it got old. :) I've got a collection now, but it took a while. I usually check in the late afternoon and make a guess about what it might look like, and make a decision. Sometimes I make the right call, sometimes I don't. We've got a major vog thing going right now though - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vog - adds another variable. Sometimes it helps, most times not.

in Photography Posts Moved on In A Cool Hour
Can you just use redirect links to get the older bookmarks to point to your new site? I don't know if it's too late, but maybe through using the Google Webmaster Tools, or something else that shows where people are hitting broken links, you could add redirects for the posts that are popular. Or include a custom 404 that says photos have been moved too. I'm thinking about doing the same with my photography - to move it to a portfolio site, but I am having to work on what to do with the current posts on my site.
~ Kristi

peterliu47
I thought about that, but couldn't find a way to do a custom 404 with Blogger (maybe with WordPress, but that's another kind of migration can of worms) and it would have taken forever to replace the original posts with links to the migrated ones, so I decided to cut my losses and bear the pain. I'm more comfortable with the situation now though—being able to post relevant stuff in separate places.

in Inside the Minds of Twitter Users on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I prefer following back people on Twitter because I believe that social media is a two way street. If you think about friends in real life, would you want to be friends with someone who agreed never to communicate back to you, or pay attention to anything you said?

Just because someone follows you on Twitter doesn't make them your friend. If it doesn't suit your interests (personal and/or professional) to follow someone in return, then don't. It's that simple. Sure, it's flattering to have someone you don't know begin to follow you based on your bio and twitter feed, but obligatory reciprocity tends to carry an air of immaturity in many social media forums. And I would like to see Twitter avoid this if possible.
Although the majority of Twitterers do utilize some level of reciprocity, I think people need to accept the fact that there are going to be people who follow you and you won't have any desire to follow them in return. And there will be people whom you follow that have no interest in following you in return. This isn't a high school cafeteria.

It's really not the flu that got me thinking of the need to change. Another thing cropped up out of a sudden that got me to take action.
