U wiill pay RM7/day and still going around looking for parking. Even with recent expansion, still not enough space and ppl still do side parking and left the hand break free.

I do expect number of visitors to drop. Question is, how much. There are newer and free parking places for ppl to meet up and do businesses.

I rather phase it out. Aimed for undervalued markets or post divident. The chart above is somewhat bias. The kid seems to not invest anymore after awhile, why?

Issue is alot of company cannot afford commercial software products. Choosing to use pirated commercial software products is not the way.

If company see worth using commercial software product, pay up. Else use other alternatives.

MS major problem is pirated software. Can be seen as lost revenue.

Merc did a collaborative research with MPOB to test their biodiesel on merc diesel engine.

I am very certain, users will switch to diesel engine in the next 50 years, as petrol spiral up to like RM20/litre or so.

nah.. valentine is around the corner.

Some lonely girls tend to do that. those girl may or may not hv a bf. But they do that to induce valentine gifts from guys.

I got like 4-5 girls expressing "love" at me last year. This year I got 2 also this year. I fell into that trap, dated one of the 4, went out with her. gave a a plush toy, choc and etc. after that gone. go for one of the other 3, she said bzlar, work lar, tired lar and etc. I know one girl who got like tonnes of valentine gifts from alot of guys, u know what she said "it is ok". and she get instant attention at the office.

Trust me those girls won't last a week. when valentine over it is over babe. But at least not ONS, girls do one week stand for valentine gifts.

pls dun trust instant love. Let your valentine be a person who u know, been through thick and thin with. Especially the thin part.

sorry about the english. was abit rushy. I think many ppl dun understand what v-day really means. It is not about popularity, who is the pinkiest, who is the prettiest. Some of these girls are behaving like female dogs during mating season.

But at the least, v-day is a good time to show thanks to the person who hv been intimate with each other for so long. And a good time to wish for more v-days to look forward for together. For those who are married, this is the best time to say thanks to u know who.

This demonstrated that fundamental freedom to reach the maximum possible in research is very important, and prized, to hit the high gear. Restriction in any form in any lab, in any field, is impeding on the any investment to achieve the most.

I find it strange why this guy was not allowed to explore all that he can, with computers at MS? MS always hv an option to restrict the code to be released in public domain, y this guy is not allowed to push his limit? Is this the reason that cause MS products to be buggy? Or he was hired not to produce result with linux, so that MS can tell the world that linux sux? Or did he dig too deep in MS products and saw the flaws? or MS worried that he might release the code privately and ms just got to restrict him?

This also show that politics within MS is eating into what I think MS can do more. Lets see how their release in 2006 turns out.

Heck! companies like ms is not gaining from inovative capabilities of their staff. In R&D, any possibilities is welcome to go through experimentation. I dun think MS is at their best in giving their client the best. I suppose there is no other purpose to have linux research in MS other than to find the bad point of competitor OS.

I guess no body cares that all these wireless stuff is increasing mutation rate. As for my lab work, I now made it compulsory for my team member to leave their hp, laptop in a special room, while the gene extraction and sequencing is done in a seperate room. As I hv observed, among a group of international researchers, the mutation on the sequences we handled increases with presence of wireless device. We were not investigating relationship between wireless and mutation, but wanted to explain, why such a large diversity and high mutability on the data that we have.

Having wireless through the city, is not going to help. But for sure, it is going to induce more gene related diseases in the next 50 years or so.

This is the beginning of the end of pirated softwares (World Wide). The drive is to recover as much profit as possible. Those who doesn't pay will have to pay the license or pay the fine (worst, do time in jail).

Those who post pirated software on lelong or ebay will be hunt down like wild stupid rabbit by the authorities. Listing and proof gathering is already underway. Your names are exposed, as bright as the sun, and are tied as clear as the sky to a pirated software.

Those who doesn't pay will pay else embrace the sucky yucky open source movement and write ur own code, give it away for free (as in dollars and cents or ringgit dan sen).

You all can either go ori before or after you got busted. Either way, pay up. The choice is yours.

BTW, dun buy dual core machines. The Ori OEM OS can't use both core.

I heard BSA usually catch company with 3-5 computers and announce the catch to be worth millions..

They basically add up the cost of all the pirated softwares installed on it. and slap u with a fine worth up to that much.

I am not going to buy softwares anymore. I will use FOSS. However, hard it is.

If MS is super dominant, they can impose total crack down of pirated softwares (not just theirs, but also who ever developed on Windows). That would literally mean RM300-500/pc at bare minimum. if 10% of malaysian uses computer and 50% of that is pirated that will be about RM375mil bare minimum.

I really dun think pirated version of vista will be out. Globally that will cost MS in trillions. And it is only natural for MS exec to increase their revenue if they get more ppl to use legal windows and stop use of pirated vista.

Pirates just watch out ok.

The other question is why must they allow their software to be pirated? It doesn't reward them financially, it doesn't reward their client who also could have opt for the pirated version. Plus it only goes to show that their security is so lame that they cannot control copying of their software.

Margin cut or not, to the users, why should they pay when they have the option not to pay?

I find that article funny in the sense that as if MS is saying, ok u can pirate it if ur hardware is cannot support fancy graphics. As if they are saying, "well not point for u to buy vista if u cannot use Aero, please use the pirated version". LOL

btw, i have a confirm information from a reliable source that say that MS is selling winxp on dual core machine which only uses one core.

it is not about power user. It is about keeping annoying problems at bay. some times with commercial products, the returned parameter have to be remapped to the correct values using another class or function to patch the difference. while had it done right the first time, the patch is not needed at all.

while it is close source, the problem last as long as the owner fix it. if it is open, problem can be traced down to the code of lines and fixed in matters of minutes.

that is oso why open source tools in general, get fixed faster cos ppl get to do it right immediately rather than to wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait....

and ppl dun like the fix? bear fork bear version.

hehehe... dan brown's book got element of the dark ages, which define the world we have today. Some people just wanted to hide those fact. Some just follow the crowd, protest w/o reason/understanding.

I was reading european dark age histories (roughly 1AD-1500AD) years ago. It align wells with the historical events in his book. But the history of the dark ages was very bad (worst than Juon, pontianak sundal malam and alike), I think i reserve those comment to a mature audience. Those who dun understand the movie, I recommend that you read up european history between 1AD-1500AD.

But Da Vinci code or the likes of The beaultiful mind, is not for everybody. It needed abit of thinking and in da vinci code -> the knowledge in european history.

OK next movie over the hedge. Bear puts up kiddie hat :)

Bear suggest to get a laser printer with open source driver like those from Brother.

Non-opensource driver devices in general will die with the OS and the company.

Bear realizes this cos alot of surviving devices bear used is supported by opensource drivers. One such device is TV-tuner. The one bear got only provided WinNT, and Win98 drivers. When bear upgraded to WinXP, company said bear have to get new devices with new driver. Lucky for bear, the TV tuner is encoded with some openstandard stuff, which bear dun understand. But it worked under linux. and in fact, it worked better than windows cos, windows one works only 640x480, opensource driver and software work 2-3x that, and supports many-many other cards too. TV-tuner card is now 9 years old.

Bear also have ATI card. trust me, it is a no-go. Card is 6 months old. upgrading to n-vidia soon.

Now, bear stuck with Canon LBP-810. Canon said no opensource or linux driver. They only have win98/me and winNT driver. Lucky for bear they give winxp driver 4-5years ago after nearly 6 months of waiting. Not sure vista driver is going to be made available or not for LBP810. Bear no have vista... nevermind. LBP-810 is now 8 years old.

But Bear no buy Canon anymore. Bear wonder if have other company like WaterGun, BBGun, Nuklear or Howiser or something like that who over products with opensource drivers. Hmmm....

Not to be dishartened. ebay malaysia.... not really working... I do not think online auction is really working that well in general over here. some recent survey shows that the young surfers r not really into it (Maybe not much $$$) (http://star-techcentral.com/tech/story.asp?file...). The adults.... well... prefer a established way to buy things + get the extra SERVICES.

American are spendthrift... half the time poor before they got old (some can afford it). I really do not think Malaysian can emulate that. A very different market behaviour, I think. But if you like to sell and make profits, sell it to Americans, they buy without thinking apparently. Good Luck.

Bear's boss gave bear a spanking new desktop...... with vista.

After 2 weeks of struggle, finally, it became stable.... abit

After bear took off ...the security features, some user control thing (to install of alot of software bear use for work, other wise not possible).. and the aero feature, revert to classic...

Silencing a few softwares from startup is wise.

1GB memory, not enuf and it is instable. After taking off the 2 feature, and removal of the startup apps... Bear got 300MB RAM free, enough for 1-2 browser, and 1-2 office apps. More than that, it will crash. Before removal of the apps and feature, bear got 100-150MB left, enough for 1 browser, 1 office appm more than that, it becomes instable and crashy. Bear guess the latter is the minimum requirement for minimum work/usability.

Bear recommend 6-10GB RAM for vista to be comfortable. No kidding. Bear use it for research, CAD, calculations, programming, scripting, 1GB where got enough???? 1-2 apps at a time is not multitasking... and bear got to deliver a multitasked multiplexed work on 100-200MB RAM left?? How can!!!!

Bear hv to recompile openoffice (bear's boss forgot to buy the pro edition for msoffice 2007, and he expect bear to present ppt file as needed without lesen - how can!!!!).

Network is a hazard, net admin guy who is MCSE guy took 6 hours to configure. Bear guess he needs an update. No internet for a day. Downtime.

One of DXXX provided driver not compatible with vista. DXXX cannot answer till today. Every day startup, vista say, incompatible driver detected, click here for solution. bear click, vista say, no solution found. wait till a solution is reported... bear waith 1 hour per day during startup before bear decide to move on.

Bear is glad that bear uses alot of open source applications, can recompile and fix problems as it arises. Interestingly, compiling with Cygwin/gcc, vista will say bash or sh.exe is not an know/approved application, wait for solution and yadayada, and vista will stop it. However, if u close that popup windows, repeat the process same popup comes up. If u leave it open and recompile, sh.exe will work, no problem.

Consultation with several pro in several companies (MNC mostly), they faces similar problem, on their trial machines, as they are involve in migration process. Most company as bear found out is planning upgrade by year end. Not now. Lots of problem.

Yeah. stay with XP, please. If upgrade wait 1 more year. If u ever get vista machine, get more RAM, minimum of 6GB recommended. Bear guess there are such thing as memory inflation.

And ppl said it looks ok, cool and etc... please use it and live with it first before u give comments. With so many comments that I read and compare that with my own experience, Bear know where bear stands. Bear leave it to all to buy Vista machine and find out urself. Good Luck.

BTW, no more blue screen of death... it was replaced with some other color.

Vista look like XP is not helping much to release the RAM.
Bear change it to win95-look-alike to release some RAM for the application.

BTW, the other Vista machine bear use to run some jobs keep requesting for restarts. Restarts and it keep asking to be restarted. Restart virus ar? Or Restart Bug on Retard Vista? bear going to format that vista machine, 1 week old. Maybe bear should extend the contract for the post retirement, XP machine for it's extensive experiences on the jobs. New vista does not have the experience yet... keep restarting.. why?

But if you have the $$$, bear do not see why not you pay up? No need to deal with pirates.

Alot of professional such as those in the photo shops uses original Photoshops on macs. Some friends bear knows uses original photo editors in additon to the ones that comes with the camera (bear still use paint, kpaint, gimp). But many now supplement their software with opensource software such as openoffice. Bear do not see a reason not to use opensource apps, bcos it is good enough for the job, just use it.

Seriously, who needs it when you can get non-pirated, at no cost, copylefted GPL software that guarantees your freedom to modify and share the apps??

Try bittorrent fedora from http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/
New FC7 release coming soon. You can chose ubuntu, gentoo, redhat if u like. It is a start to alot of softwares.

Looking back at beta testing phases for Vista, bear is amazed that why the testing did not detect or solved bugs, issues n problem with vista? Delay and etc did not help?

More importantly testing were done by professionals, before it went to public. Why these professionals and the public did not detect? Did they really really test it?

btw, the antivirus comes together with vista expired. It block internet access for "security reasons". Had to uninstall to get it to connect to internet again. All other vista and the antivirus gave same problem. Quite a few virus caught though, even at some of the online payment sites. Dunno what those worms/virus/trojan are doing there...

Bear got another antivirus software. But not the same as the one provided. Scared it blocks again the next time it expires.

Bear find that com sell Vista computer n not use it internally is somewhat puzzling. No wonder troubleshooting is slow.

Bear is really puzzled on vista delay + beta testing == buggy software.
Bear presumed that Vista is super complicated to manage. Hope all goes well. Bear's Vista behave like W95, more importantly works with minimal memory allocation. Hope the Vista SP1 helps make it better, user friendlier.

Bear not saying p0rn is totally bad. Sometimes childless couple go to see doctor.... dr do prescribe advice and abit of p0rn to get the fire started.. especially on conservative individuals/couple. Sperm donation, they have ways too... hehehe... But too much of it... and how much is too much... and it's impact on the surrounding people... is situational.

Bear will feel bad if bear sell bad thing to people. The sense of guilt is deep. Bear's CTO decided to remove all vista OS and downgrade to XP.

We found too many problems with no solutions.

1. Incompatible Drivers, causing frequent, unpredictable restarts.
2. "what u cut is not what u paste" - Missing from clipboard in windows and MS offices. Something is dead wrong with interop.
3. Alot of incompatible softwares, close source, can't do anything but watch.
4. Lots of opensource apps not working on vista (cos alot of dev dun hv vista to dev, most heard to migrated to linuxes of their own choice). It will take us too long to fix even some.It is not our core business, so no go.
5. Good point, colorful screen of death, chose which ever color u like. Seen few colors already.
6. and etc etc etc....

The only ppl I heard saying vista good is MS Staff bear knew. Some how they cannot tell the difference between working n not working softwares.

Sigh... what happened to quality softwares? what happen to beta testing of vista? and the company is damn proud that they force sell to ppl a broken software... well it is not broken, it was not working in the first place. Dunno what happen to the millions of dollars spent on R & D in ms. why it end up worst? Several financial hses had downgrade ms stock... is that a sign investor leaving?

Bear dun think blind marketing shd take place. The product must be good in the first place to sell well. Come to think of it, only no good product, hard to sell product need marketing. U make the judgement.

U know what? Bear listen to Eben Moglen's speech at plone conference.

He said something that makes economical sense. Ask yourself, which would you like to buy, an uncomfortable shoe for RM300 or a comfortable shoe for RM70? Point is people pay for good products. If no good, why pay the price?

Everybody shd take the hint from Intel n Dell who are not deploying until the first service pack (bear think some time august or later). Dell ubuntu laptop/desktop... not here yet, so no supported OS option, unless DIY. Regardless, Bear is worried about MS investors. It seems that the complexity of the OS is hitting a limit and would not move further unless transparency and openness is introduced to solve it. If MS dun do it.... OMG!!! The logic will become free one works better than paid one. Is there still a business?

But if u listen to Eben's tok, he is arguing on something greater than that of freedom and human prosperity. Something that in the past several hundred years, was not possible, until today. And that sprit of sharing and living as a community will bring the world together, promote peace, liberty, and prosoperity.

Alot of financial analyst argued that ppl like bill gates and carlos helu, might not be the richest guys for certain. Cos they are industry dependent. If the stock rise, they got richer on paper and the reverse will make them sound poorer. Bear think u guys shd read up Warren Buffet. He is much more diversified. If a specific industry crash, it will impact him very little, cos he is not tied to any industry. Unless the world went into recession and the world's stock market fell like a meteor.... Bear uses Maxis "Broadband". Problem is Jaring's dial up can download 12MB data/hr, Maxis can only do 1MB in 2hr. Youtube does not work now. Ymsg v slow, disconnect frequently. Call Maxis customer service between 8pm-12pm cannot get, but call at 5am, can get. So the lines must be busy with alot of calls to their centers or lack of man power to handle the calls. At 5am, the consultant say mine is connected. Problem is at 5am my modem and computer was off. Bear think got security issue on maxis network too.

Bear think MCMC should give more operator in the telco industry and totally liberalized the market to allow for more ISP, so they can compete to setup infra, offer services to the point of saturation. We want it cheap, we want it fast, we want it unlimited, we want it ubiquitous, everywhere and anywhere.

It is not beneficial to the consumer, by limiting the number of players in the area. Limiting ISP vendor and the whole chain is only benefiting a few vested business interest (Crony?). Bear no happy about it.

Will watch for ymax.
