It looks at the site it is linking back to, and it has to have nearly equal pagerank. This approach isn't great for more than one reason.

2. what about a voting mechanism for "best comments" like on digg. only the best comments from other registered users counts. maybe even combine with that other plugin that only allows long time contributors to get dofollow.

I still think google should give slightly higher rankings to sites that use dofollow.

Re: Sitting On Your Good Domains? It will only get worse, well, better for those that own short domains.

Re: Not like this, like this. Pretty soon, Microsoft Office will be obsolete, even though the OpenOffice suite has yet a ways to go to be considered a real threat (esp. in usability in my opinion). Thanks for the tip.

Re: Why Google & Twitter Need to Ditch “Nofollow” for All Our Sakes!

You made one critical mistake: Google will FOLLOW NOFOLLOW links in order to find the content and index. What it wont do is give that link credit for search engine rankings.

Re: Sick of Spam? I get plenty of spam in my Gmail
B. I don't get much spam in my email hosted by my hosting company.
C. Who do you call when you need help or something is not working. I have had 2 Google products break on me this week alone, and no one to call/email.
D. Point: results may vary.

Jack
The 10 Great Fallacies of Web Design
