They say it's an Al Gore we've never seen before and that material is set forth in such a way that avoids condescension. Is that true? I plan on seeing it anyway, but I'm finding the comments about Gore interesting.

Gore/Clinton in '88? I mean, I heard her name on tv once in a while, but I had to ask a friend why she was even a celebrity. That friend told me she used to be a jeans model (okay) and that she married an old rich guy (so what). But, still, because we can't go anywhere or have the tv on without her life's pitiful story being told over and over and over again, I know more about her than I do most of my neighbors. I know she had a baby by one of three men, she was estranged from her mother and sister, and that for the last several interviews she was barely coherent. And I've NEVER WATCHED ANY OF THE SHOWS. I've heard these things on the radio and on tv as I do other things, and they're just part of my memory now.

I want to feel sorry for her, I even want to pray for her and her baby and her family, but more than anything, I WOULD LIKE TO NEVER HEAR HER NAME AGAIN.

How pathetic is that?!?

Re: We Live In Exponential Times

I can't access the link. What is the reason for the assumption that feminist organizations are not supporting her? I.e., have they come out with statements that do not support her, or is there a silence that is causing folks to draw this conclusion? I can't really figure out what she means by "they don't support me because of fear...of offense".

Any light you can shed on that? I read the article you linked above, but it says that she got an award from Ms. magazine and Oprah, so I'm wondering where the no-support-from-feminists is coming from.

Thanks.

Re: Free Abdel Kareem

Thanks for this post, Randy, and for the links provided.

Re: Muslim-Refusenik.com - Irshad Manji

Well, I certainly understand what the point is, actually being a feminist. But, as you know, I am not prone to automatically assuming that any of the media provides information in a completely accurate manner. The exhange between Beck and Manji leaves a lot to the imagination. So...I suppose I'll have to check into that more. I'll let you know what I find.

Re: We Live In Exponential Times

Man, that was intense!

You know how sometimes you're excited and worried about something at the same time? That's what this video does to me. It's exciting to think about technology still being a frontier with many years of exploration ahead, but at the same time it's a bit intimidating to think about how it's starting to control our lives. Right now, we're still in control and having fun, but...

:::shivering:::

The different scenarios you can imagine concerning China are kind of worrisome also. I know you read Alexandra's blog, and so I'm sure you've read the thoughts of one of her commenters. He scares the pee out of me sometimes with his thoughts on China.

Thanks for the link, Randy. GOOD for you for calling Coulter on her remarks.
she has chosen to go all out and offend as many people as possible
This is the key. She's too smart and experienced to use words like that and not already know the impact of them. You are one of the few conservative bloggers who are willing to just state the truth about her. She knows what she is saying and the conservative rank and file need to tell her shape up or they'll cut her loose. It's frustrating to watch the conservative objective get periodically sabotaged by her irresponsible remarks.
I'm completely with Brady when he says that any qualifier, e.g., "but", helps reinforce the view that we approve of her.
I hate it when public figures say something innocuous or choose the wrong words, and then get flayed for them. I try to remember that for every politician, there are nearly as many people who despise him or her as there are people who admire him or her. Because of this, don't you think it's difficult for any candidate to show their true colors? Their every word is so scrutinized by so many people that they can't communicate their visions like regular people can.

And, you're right, it IS what nauseates people about the process.

I didn't see Edwards "channelling" Jesus, but I imagine it much like Hillary, admonishing those of us who don't agree with her left-leaning ideas by telling us what Jesus wouldn't like...it just smacks of someone desperately trying to court both liberal Christians and people who don't like Christians.

So far, John McCain is the only candidate I've seen that at least looks like he believes the words that are actually leaving his mouth.

It really makes me sad, Randy.

Re: Interesting Invitation

This is just a "deep thought" from someone who hasn't spent much time thinking about it, but I am curious. If the two people who are being "married" know how you feel and you still show up out of love, aren't they more likely to view it as such since they know you wouldn't otherwise have attended? What brought this thought to mind was that I've attended weddings between people who shouldn't be marrying, e.g., a friend married a Jewish man and they omitted mention of Christ from the service, even though she remains "Christian". Or another person who married a non-believer.

Man, the weddings I've attended.

Re: SCARY Hillary Video

I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on that, and I'd have to think about the boomer thing. No generation before the Boomers has been exposed to such messaging, telling them what to wear, what to watch, what's acceptable, how to feel...Because we're such a large generation, the GenY-ers running for President in a decade or so will still have to pander to us.

Since Boomers will pretty much rule until about 2020, and most of the Supreme Court judges will go to something like 2025, they will not only lead at a dangerous time, but they will be around to deal with the aftermath.

I'll have to get that book. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Cheesecake Open Thread

Sorry to rat you out like that, Susan!

Re: Cyber Bullying Is Lame

Interesting. I didn't know anything about this trend happening among teenage girls, although I have heard about some instances where some boys have run websites that trashed the girls at their schools. So my mind jumped immediately to some of the "adult" bloggers and commenters that are so nasty.

Thanks for the video. I have to say even having sex offenders' addresses online makes me cringe.
My gut instinct is to say that the Wisconsin sponsors of that bill are playing politics with an emotional issue and people who've paid their debt should not be targeted for harassment.
A different license plate could affect a person's chances of getting a job, staying with a church, and could isolate them, which I imagine would exacerbate the disease.
However, studies appear to show a high rate of recidivism among pedophiles. So this makes me doubt my initial revulsion at having sex offenders identified.
I don't know what the answer is, but assigning a different-colored license plate is not the answer. They finally won in court, I think, but two years is a lot of time. Their hate crime laws may have evolved into any talk anywhere against a class defined as "protected" by the law.

Re: APA Task Force Response

Yeah, good advice for everyone else to stay civil, right now he's the one that has to answer for his inappropriate response, no sense in giving him ammunition.

I am having trouble believing that a professional would write something that crude and confrontational, much less in response to calm, thoughtful objection.

Something about "true colors" comes to mind here, you know?

Keep us posted, Randy.

Re: Exodus On Montel’s Show

Wow. They are the Christians who, as Mike indicated, abhor conflict and will do or say nearly anything to avoid being called judgemental or being perceived as hypocritical. It's a remarkable phenomenon, this self-hatred many Christians have, but they're ripe for picking. Apologies for mixing my metaphors. :)

Re: HRC Finds Religion … really?

This is more of what we're seeing with Hillary Clinton and John Edwards, attempting to cast the nets and pull in fish from that fringe area, where the Christians are Christians by default (not Jews or Muslims) and don't have a clue as to what it would mean to genuinely be one. Quite to the contrary, he describes the attack as unprovoked, tells how the police basically ignored it, and calls the attackers liars. What I hear Randy saying is that what happened to him does not belong in a special category, that is, a crime against someone for being gay is not worse than a crime against someone who has money and someone else will beat them for it.
And, by the way, I apologize in advance if you are a friend of Randy's and/or you truly care for him, but isn't that a bit of baiting to challenge him to name the people responsible for attacking him then? The police ignored it, and it happened in 1988. You seriously want him to name people who attacked him nearly 20 years ago? Now, you know you really don't expect that, so what was the purpose of that?

Re: Heartwarming Surprise Homecoming

That was so touching to see that boy running to jump into Dad's arms, his little face crumpling as he ran.
