I thought that we had gotten beyond these artificial measures of what constitutes "black enough".

For those who haven't read Barack's letter to the church, I implore you to do so. There is pain and anguish throughout, along with tremendous love and respect for the church he loudly proclaims led him to his faith.

My people, I'm begging you--we have to see the bigger picture here. We have to shed this tunnel vision we so often have about so many things. This man is running for the President of the United States of America. As of Tuesday night, he will "officially" be the Democratic nominee. I believe in my heart he's going to win the general election in November.

Does anyone truly believe that he won't be better President than John McCain? That he won't do more for "us" than John McCain? That just the very image of him taking the oath of office in January 2009, which will be transmitted around the globe, won't in an instant change things forever?

I'm not saying Barack is the Magic Negro. He's not a god, he's not a magician, and he won't solve all the country's problems in one fell swoop. But, he has inspired me like none other. To paraphrase Michelle, for the first time in my adult life I am proud to be able to support such a phenomenally gifted man.

I never believed I would see such a day. I want to celebrate this extraordinary triumph. Not read a bunch of mean-spirited comments about how Barack is not "black enough" or "down enough", or some such nonsense. For those who have obsessed about his decision to leave Trinity, I fear that there really is nothing that Barack could do to appease you.

Re: The Official JJP - Let’s Just Enjoy This Moment Post

This entire thread has made me cry. And Webb, my goodness. I have a feeling that I'm going to be just a complete mess on January 20, 2009.

Everyone has come up with fantastic moments, and I agree with every single one. But you know, what's he's done in the last 2 days alone (since he won the nomination) has been pretty incredible.

1. His speech at AIPAC. He completely won them over--that crowd was on their feet cheering at the end.

2. His "takeover" of the DNC. No drama, but forceful decisions. It's his party now. No mistake.

3. His smackdown of Lieberman on the Senate floor.

4. Introducing his transparency in government legislation--a bill that McCain was jumping up and down to ensure he was included on as an original sponsor.

5. His HUGE rally in Bristol, VA (SW part of the state) yesterday--dipping into Appalachian territory a bit---and then coming on up to Northern VA for another HUGE rally.

6. His secret meeting with Hillary. I really didn't expect them to have a substantive meeting so soon.

He's done all that in just 2 days. Imagine what his first 100 days in office will look like.

Re: The Limited Empathy Of Joan Walsh

Thank you so much for this, dnA. You expressed my feelings perfectly. I have been in a blinding rage about Joan Walsh for MONTHS.

I don't want her anywhere near my big, beautiful black posterior, though. Keep her away from me.

Re: Joint Crabby McCrab And Flava Flav Awards

I went to the link because I was just astounded.

I'm trying to give the author some room here. It was a little confusing, but I couldn't quite decide if he was putting forth this as his own list, or whether he was presenting his findings of what other Black men shared.

I think it's the latter, but I'm not completely certain. I'm going to go back and read the whole thing again.

Clearly these sentiments are really disturbing and very sad, but I don't want to villify the brother if he was just "reporting" his findings.

Re: Joint Crabby McCrab And Flava Flav Awards

After rereading this article several times throughout the day, sadly I've come to the conclusion that the author is an idiot. A pathetic, misguided, ill-informed, idiot.

As you can see from my earlier post, I was really trying to cut him some slack--just in case I wasn't understanding him.

Yeah, I understand him just fine.

Re: "I Bit My Tongue"

The reports of Barack's meeting with the CBC have had me wanting to stab myself in the eye with a fork for a couple of days. Sigh.

My friend and I were saying that for some of Hillary's female CBC supporters, it was as if they still haven't gotten over the light skinned guy in high school never asking them out, and they were sure going to take revenge on Barack as a result. That's a horrible thing to say, but that's as good a reason as anything else. Since none of it makes sense.

I wish he would have told them to grow the hell up, and stop cowering in fear of the imagined wrath of the Clintons. I mean, what do these people think Bill and Hillary can do to them?

Re: Obama Vice-Presidential Watch, JJP Style

I LOVE the idea of Richardson, and have for a very long time. When I saw them together when Richardson endorsed Barack, I swooned a little. Could this really happen?

Just echoing that Webb's wife is of Asian descent, which would be a groovy visual in the requisite family pics.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Biden, although I'd be scared every time he opened his mouth, bless his heart.

As for Hillary? Hell to the no. But, I just might be willing to give her a look-see IF she divorced Bill, as suggested above. But, otherwise. No can do.
