Yes, I think the four owners of the blogs that published this are known. They will have logs and from what I hear an investigation is, of course, underway.

Good point there too, Edrei. Obviously, this one event, and the whole issue for that matter, does have many sides. For the people involved it will be clear-cut, though, and I figured: before debating, we might as well just stand together and express our disagreement (to put it mildly).
I am happy to see, however, that the massive response has attracted the attention of the BBC. So the massive amount of comments and posts (the 'story' shot to number one on Technorati yesterday, and it's still there) made sure of that. The amount of comments and trackbacks to Kathy's post was phenomenal.
Move on, yes, but raise our voices now. That was the point of this post if anything else.
Which means I still agree with you too, of course ;-)

It definitely is. I've heard tax systems proposed that would allow for a modular allocation of the due amount to certain items. Not unlike the way one is able to choose classes to earn credits, only the other way around.
This would be a very direct form of taxation and it would show what the public thinks is 'bad spending'. The disadvantage, of course, would be that 'the masses' would determine what is 'unnecessary', like art, education, the environment.
But judging what I know of the US, those departments don't get much in funding anyway. :-(

Exactly.
I've been criticized for posting this already. As if because I don't know Kathy or the Scobles personally, I shouldn't pay attention to this. As if because you'll always have psychos like this, we should just ignore them.
I think everyone should blog this because first of all everyone needs to know. Then we could discuss who, what, where and why.

Thanks Smarr. Like I said, I'm far away from this all in every way. It's crucial that she and the bloggers close to her take care of themselves first, make sure every stone is upturned to hit these creeps hard and make sure it is known how this is unacceptable. Meanwhile, I couldn't just look at it from the sideline and not say anything.

Yes, it's the dark side of the open society showing its ugly head once again. I felt I just needed to point out which side I am on.

The small ones are brilliant. Make sure you get a fast-drying gel pen to go with it. The experience will blow you away ;-)

Cool, Damien. I love the Clairefontaine paper. And they look every bit as neat as the fancier ones. Happy scribbling!

Oh, yes! Daniel that is brilliant. I've long wanted to do that too. There was a time, in fact, when I did write with nothing but nib and bottle. Adding wax to that would certainly freak people out, though.

No need to dilute your likings indeed. If you're happy with your paper, stick with it by all means. This is just a suggestion of some alternatives. But boy, you do have a lot of Moleskines ;-) Cool!

You make it sound very biblical all of a sudden there, Arjun ;-) But yes, the laptop may be cool, but there are times when you don't want to carry a couple of kilos of expensive electronics with you.

You think so? About Switzerland, that is. We never hear anything about that. Turkey is discussed, and Belarus and the Ukraine. Seems like we've given up on you, he he. Is there a lot of talk about the EU in Switzerland perhaps?
As for the mission of the EU, yes, we have been running in circles a bit, now focusing on social issues, then on monetary ones, and never really advancing except for adding new members. That is very acutely felt by everybody.
I do think the Euro was a good thing, though. Connect the economies, connect the currency and it's going to be very hard for a member state to fall out of step and come up with crazy ideas. But again, the way it was implemented could have been better. Some states really got bad exchange rate deals with that. And that creates grumbles with the public.
Thanks mate for commenting!

Yes, you should be very ashamed. And, okay, you can be a bit proud as well, I suppose. I know I would be.
Still, in case I couldn't have both, I wouldn't mind an MBP with some sweet giganormous cinema display either.

What's FedEx's transatlantic delivery record again? Hm, nope, not even that would help now.
I'll just bluff my way out: "Nah, I'm running an over-clocking experiment on my CPU right now, deciding on the benefits of either liquid hydrogen or helium cooling..."

Thanks Aidan. I'm sure you would help out. It's not working out that well, so far, but I will certainly enjoy the event and Twitter and take pix. And post them after.

Well, thanks, I had planned on doing exactly that. All I can say is that, even while being aware one isn't watching the Greene version, this film struck a chord with me. As I wrote, knowing the story behind this film and how it came about precisely makes for an interesting contemporary viewing nonetheless. Apocalypse Now has very little in common with Heart of Darkness and yet it is a good film, flawed as it may be to some, now and in years to come. But rest assured, the book is on the list. And thank you for commenting.

in Behold! I Finally See Twitter And It Is From The Future on Dotcomslashblog
I suppose a tweet occurs when one twitters. There has been some confusion about this, though. Some seem to prefer the term twit but that didn't go in well with Leo Laporte ;-)

That is indeed the point: start using it, add the people whose blogs you read and the 'Twitter effect' will kick in.
But putting it on your blog makes little sense: I'm not visiting your blog for your Twitter status. The other way round, your 'tweets' may tell me what's been occupying you, and then, I may see that evolve into a post.

Wow. I don't call this uninformed at all, but well thought-out. Of course, no one is forcing you to Twitter, and even when you do, there's no need for five-minute updates.
The way I see it, it's not about who ate what. I've heard many descriptions, but 'disposable micro-blogging' comes close. I use it as a notepad, writing down an observation or a frustration so that I get it out. If a theme emerges, maybe a post will come out of it.
The other way around, I do like how Twitter 'fills the gaps'. Some bloggers don't update every day, but now I get an idea of who they are. Whether they're catching a plane or going for a mountain-walk, it allows me an added glimpse of how their ideas take shape.
As for confusing real people with online 'identities', true: there is a danger in that. But I think most of us live well-balanced lives, which should make our tweets and posts all the more interesting.
And now I'd love to see you show up there some time nonetheless ;-)
