I feel kinda sad, the grandson seems kind of young. also, does this mean that whatever it was he believed was just plain wrong, that the tentacled tick goddess is the one true faith, or, even worse, that there are multiple heavens for multiple faiths, and this poor kid has been side tracked into the tick heaven instead of, oh, say, the Swedish Bikini Model heaven??

because he was wrong, and its not exactly what he expected? seems like he has a bit of an adjustment period to go through.

I like the idea that grandpa, as one of obviously very few adhearants to the tick-god, has a lot of pull, and a good sense of humor! Hope someone is willing to interceed on my behalf if it comes to that!!

Only thing I would change is the "But your debt is not yet repaid." It reads better as a sentence fragment "...but your debt is not yet repaid..." or "... and yet, your debt is not repaid...", sounds like the deep voice trails off omminously.

There is no 'punchline'. its a nice (sad) story, well told, in a medium and on a site we usually expect humor. the story 'kinda just...stops' because that is the fate of the astronaut... he just... ends! no climax, no trumpets. So, you DO get it, you just didn't expect it, maybe.

here is me, sounding all wise and stuff!!

@Winston Rowntree... I would say 'Both.' but then I noticed that it was clearly articulating policy... and realized that it therefore COULDN'T be Harper (Harper would be saying 'you can't trust the dophin, you need to be SCARED and vote for me).

@Zack... are you planning a nice 'editorial' comic for our election? maybe something about Harper firing the National Science Advisor, etc??

nah, she is a super hero who is just bored with her role. blasting the comet is trivial for her, nothing makes her 'reach' any more, no challanges.

I think it may be a bit of the 'Dr. Manhattan' feelings from the "Watchmen" graphic novel... starting to feel used, people presume, and the thanks isn't even sincere.

doesn't it occur to you that some people have FUN trying to figure out the comics, and talk about them? Perhaps you don't like seeing other people have fun doing things that don't amuse you, but I would bet that it is really that you like trying to drag down people. Maybe I am wrong.

only to ourselves... aside from crashing our planet into the sun, nothing we do matters. life comes and goes from the surface of the planet with predictable regularity. and, in the big picture, the planet itself is just a speck orbiting a mote. not much more significant than the slime that grows on the moist side of rocks, raising the oxygen level of the atmosphere and creating a whole new biosphere.

so, if we suffocate in our own effluence, the planet will go on!

I keep coming back, and re-reading this one. Not because I think it is good; I don't, but I keep trying to see if maybe I missed something, that will make it funny to me. Well, that hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it will. I agree with the comment that something needs to be put up to replace this one. You have so many better comics to show!

you know, there might be a salvage for the HAL comic... something along the lines of a fourth panel showing the 'bot spiking the punchbowl with something, and muttering about showing those fleshbags how to have a good time?? or another strip with HAL in a councilling session??
