in farewell new jersey on brip blap
Wow, that sounds awesome! I'll miss knowing your site as one of the tri-state area sites I visit. I'll still visit though! We're planning to move soon but we'll be going further east out to Long Island. One day we'll make the brave move down south (or out west).
Good luck down there!

You must have TBS this weekend! Madagascar has been on all weekend with my little guy watching.
I always liked your layout. In fact when I switched to WP I was going to use the same theme as you then I saw you were using and didn't want to copy. But I cn understand wanting to switch I've been ansty too.

in something has changed on brip blap
It the availability of money. More money causes inflation. So much cheap money for so many years and we've priced ourselves out of the things we wanted the money for! Maybe now that money is getting harder to come by prices will slow down. It's happening in housing, even in NYC.
Manhattan has turned into this place that only out of towners live in. It's great that many neighborhoods have gotten better, like the lower east side, but at the same time many have lost a bit of their charm and now are out of touch with their roots. There was a time years back when we'd go down to Avenue A on a Saturday night and get a spot on the avenue. Now you have to leave in the afternoon to hope to do that.

I agree, it's inflation! Our salaries cannot keep up with rising costs. I've seen it in the extreme form in post-USSR regime. American inflation is slowly creeping up on us and a few years later we start wonder "what has changed?" Going out to movies and dinner became expensive, even luxury for some.

It's like Miracle on 34th Street. If we don't have it at Macy's let the customer know what store they can find it.
It builds trust between the store and the customer. You don't feel like you are getting swindled. I appreciate it when a salesperson says they don't know or they don't carry something try that place. I was looking at blutooth earpieces at a store recently and a salesperson walked up and asked if I needed help. I asked what the difference was between the different versions. She responded that of course the expensive ones were better. I walked out.
Help me and even if I don't buy now I'll probably be back next time I'm looking for something

Hey, I resemble that picture! I can sympathize a bit. We just put our house on the market and we're racing to get things done around here - Bathroom, painting, new lights, etc... There's just not enough hours in the day. And still give the kids the time they need...
Sounds real exciting for you! Can't wait to hear where you end up.

When we had to enact SOX controls at my job years back they were really a pain. Many of them were kind of silly too. But there were others that made a LOT of sense and plugged holes in the system we didn't already see.
You're so right that if it were the other way around there would be a legal team harassing the little guy into submission. If they can't prove the mortgage exists? That's just bad. They are trading phantom money.

Hmm, do you think the anonymity thing is tri-state area related? Maybe we're less trusting? Like you, I see so many using their real names and I've wondered if I shouldn't too. I guess part of it is having to answer to family and friends if I ever write something they don't like and another part is keeping my family protected.

Steve @ bripblap
@FFB: No, I see plenty of people all over the US being anonymous. I know my initial concern was for my family, but also since I write about work conditions and behavior at clients who might stumble across my blog. Since I don't name the clients, I guess I don't have much to worry about.
I just realized how my "real name" is a completely anonymous name "on the net" which was a little disappointing - I hate to think of whatever limited "net cred" I have for bripblap not carrying over to my real name. Probably just wounded my ego a bit...

I'm sad to see support for Notebook ending. I was just starting to really utilize it well.
If Reader goes then that will really hurt. That's how I get updates for this site! I think it would be wise for them to keep it going as you say it's users are more likely the ones to promote Google's services to others (believe it or not not everyone uses Google stuff yet).

Seems like these days the ideas come from US and the product comes from elsewhere. Apple, Dell, created here but made overseas.
What's interesting is the successful car factories in the US are the foreign ones nowadays.
Not so sure what the solution is though except that the country has to promote new ideas and technology.

I love using Stumble Upon! So much more fun than Digg. (add me as a friend: http://ffb01.stumbleupon.com/)
Great article. It will be interesting to see how much Stumble Upon grows this year. There have been lots of grumbles about Digg lately and many are no longer happy with it.

I hate to say it but the Giants victory is a little tainted. If I recall, Eli refused to play for the team who drafted him and would only go to the Giants. They didn't exactly buy him like the Yanks try to do but they didn't exactly et him like they should have.
But New York is a great, diverse place where an experience like yours can happen! There is indeed hope. Hope you're having a great holiday season!

@FFB - it does show how the NFL changes drastically - obviously in retrospect Eli would have spent some years playing for what turned out to be a very-good (not quite great) San Diego team that he (somewhat petulantly) refused to play for. But hey, winning a Super Bowl heals all wounds, eh?

Voting requirement? Do most people even vote? Maybe that's a bigger question? Unfortunately there are probably too many logistical problems in wanting to have easy questions answered. Heck, we can't even get standardized voting and there's still lots of controversy over that!
I do agree with periodic driving tests. Maybe every ten years for all drivers?

in rebuilding the idea of elitism in America on brip blap
We're not really a democracy. No one I know voted for the president, we all voted for electors which isn't democracy. In fact true democracy means that anyone could rule and that's simple not the case. Just saying.

It seems the intellectual elite has become looked down upon in this country. When did everything become so dumbed down? If the smartest, brightest people aren't the ones figuring things out then who will be? Yet people worship the athletic elite!

in why you’ll be richer without kids on brip blap
The obvious answer is to find a way to get your child signed on to a Disney show.
Yeah, having kids is expensive and I think one has to consider the cost when thinking about having kids. But I don't think it should be the sole reason not to have kids. You're right, all of the cliches are true. Coming home from work is so great when the little guy is there to greet me. Nothing can replace that!
But there are costs - More kids = bigger house; food; clothes; travel; and so on.

@FFB: Oh, absolutely, there is no financial benefit to having my daughter light up like she's just won the lottery when I walk in the room in the morning, or my son beaming like the sun when I spin him around doing "helicopters." Financial concerns didn't stop us from having kids. We love them and don't mind the costs - but we see other couples we know who think it won't affect their lives financially and I wonder if people really think it through beforehand. Like you said, nobody thinks when they are pregnant about the costs of a 4th plane ticket when you're flying to see Grandma. Nobody thinks about the cost of a car big enough for a five-person family, etc....

It helps to have a place to work away from everyone else and have the family understand that you need X amount of time to yourself to work. Of course this is easier said than done.
