what about some more Euro-centric tools? For example, www.trendpedia.com, which trawls blogs (including a huge number of European blogs) in all the major European languages?

This is a lovely case of social media marketing from Belgium. It's for the ING bank "Lyon Account" for students. The discussion is in Dutch (Flemmish dialect), but the graphics are still funny, especially if you've been to Belgium, where the beer is delicious and you have to pay to use the lou.
The campaign can be found here: http://www.emakina.com/work/casestories/ineedto...

in What Is a Social Media Marketer? on CostPerNews
Social media marketers and traditional media marketers complement each other, offering new insight and ideas. Whereas traditional marketers can collect surveys and perform surveys offline, social media marketers are more apt to engage with online consumers already involved in sharing their opinions and ideas. Combining the insights from both groups makes for better customer understanding and engagment.

Fields makes a good point. Anyone online is generally looking to attract an audience with whom to share or discuss ideas or information. Successful marketing is just that. Whether a person markets an idea or their own personality (via, for example, a social networking site), social media is a good way of creating an interested audience and then crafting a related network or community.

This is a great site. Trusera has recognised of the importance of experience enhancing the authority of expertise. Health care consumers like to be able to consult those that have experienced the condition and the treatment, and the Internet has made this possible. Trusera has made it fun and interactive. Nice job.

We are going to have to move beyond copyright. The good thing about the Internete is the focus is on credit. The transparency of stuff published online and the ability to track content through search engines like Google mean the money to be made will be in good credible (and honestly credited) content, intelligent distribution, and effective information management. Where does the idea of copyright fit in there?

We're already doing a lot of this in Europe. It's especially useful in Europe--the laws regarding direct to consumer marketing are very protective of consumers and the information that marketers are permitted to present to them. Privacy laws are also sacrosanct, meaning that online marketing is a great way to reach the European consumer audience. If a consumer finds the information, this is considered a "pull", legal, fair, and fine by European Union rules. If a consumer is inundated with information, this is a "push". The EU does not like European consumers to be pushed. Attentio (my European company) is very cautious about this. We want marketers and consumers to engage without either one missing out on opportunities they want.

in Is Your Company Trying To Regulate Social Media Usage? on Jacob Morgan on Social Media, Technology, Marketing, and Life
I agree. The trick is to create an atmosphere where employees feel their work is valuable. More and more in the "nomad culture" that social media and mobile electronic devices allow, employees, especially young employees, work better with objectives. Employers need to learn to set objectives that are reasonable and then to trust their employees to complete the objectives. An important thing is not to de-motivate employees by sucking them dry through round-the-clock online work, which tends to increase online socialising for overworked employees rather than the other way around.
