I completely agree with your thoughts here. You're right about these quick "technology fixes" killing innovation... That's clearly not the way firms should proceed these days. I like your wiki idea too... would be interesting to see more companies implement that type of communication model.

Wow, now that's what I call dedication and determination! Sure, it might have been pretty foolish too, but since they are ok, I think we can look past that. It just goes to show what people are willing to risk to get their business off the ground!

Assuming that story is true, this makes me wonder why eBay has so much trouble in major Asian markets? eBay is hardly a player in the Japanese online auction industry, where Yahoo Auctions claims a majority of the market share. And now Taobao is doing the same to eBay in the Chinese market...

I thought that was an excellent post; thanks for putting it here and for linking to the original. I never thought of my workflow in quite this way before, but it does make sense. Only 10 days per month of billable time. Wow, that changes my perspective entirely...

Business Warriors sounds like a fantastic resource for would-be entrepreneurs! I am going to spend some time reading through the site later today to find out more about it. I take it you don't actually have to be in South Africa to be allowed to join the group??

I think you made an important point here. There certainly is a distinction between being self-employed and being an entrepreneur, but a lot of people still use the terms interchangeably. Personally, I'm working towards being an entrepreneur because of the whole job mentality aspect that you referred to.

You are spot on with this post! Internet buzz is not at all the same as street buzz. I spend several hours per day reading blogs (and RSS feeds), so I have a pretty good grasp of what the hot topics in the blogosphere are on any given day. But when I bring these topics up to my non-blogging friends, they have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about. So yeah, Internet buzz is useful to a certain extent, but I wouldn't bet the ranch on anyone's online popularity translating into success in the "real world."

Wow, those screenshots are sweet! I really can't wait for the PS3 to come out! I have just about made up my mind to get it, and this Gundam game will definitely be at the top of my list of purchases!

I haven't tried any of those Missing Parts games, but have heard a few good things from friends. I might actually check out this new detective game -- sounds like it could be fun.

I thought this was an extremely helpful post. In my experience, most small business owners don't delve this deeply into industry or market analysis and so forth. But (obviously) doing so can really pay off by helping these business direct their efforts towards the best targeted prospects. Thanks for the info!

You know, SoaP never looked like a movie that I wanted to see. Even with all the buzz it was creating online (in terms of trailers, spoofs, etc.), I never thought, "Yeah, I'm going to go see that." Obviously I wasn't the only one who felt that way as the movie's $15mil take was well below expectations.
