in Definition: Social Network on Tony Steward Blog
On the outward/inward focus question: while I recognize the need to draw the distinction--the American church has been a "country club" far too long--I sometimes think we have allowed that conversation to distract us. If we're to be the body of Christ (i.e., to be like Jesus) then we have to be BOTH outward focused and inward focused. Jesus focused on both the inner circle and those outside the circle. Jesus is PEOPLE focused. A Social Networking Service just facilitates that focus on people. It facilitates connection with others. I'm pretty sure it makes Jesus smile.

in Some Hard Questions about God for Thanksgiving on GoodWordEditing.com
"Having a personal relationship with God." Yeh, I often feel guilt (good Baptist boy that I am) over that metaphor. I can "measure" the growth in my relationships with people, but it's not that simple with God. It's a little distressing. But one good thing about the metaphor: it pushes me to not just know ABOUT God, but to know God better. It's what Paul says in Phil. 3: "to know Christ and the power of His resurrection..." Still trying to figure it all out...

goodwordediting Funny that you mention that verse, Blake. Here's where I've landed for now.
A personal relationship with Jesus means this, "I want to know Christ and
the power of his rising, share in his suffering and conform to his death."
My personal relationship begins when I share in his sufferings... whatever
that means. : )

in Michael Hyatt, Stephen Mansfield, Tony Jones, and Me and You Talk Politics in Hell on GoodWordEditing.com
That second question (i.e., what does it look like when voters worship through their engagement in politics) is HUGE. I've grown frustrated trying to find the answer for me personally. I really loathe the extremism in politics and all the rhetoric that goes with it. But I also want to be the socially engaged Christian God wants me to become. Trying to find what that means... really difficult. Thanks for this post.

And the children's Tylenol. Can't forget that. Puts'em right out. My girls always had a headache on long trips...whether they knew it or not (I'm such a bad parent).
