Mike- Well, the idea behind the demand feature is that, as an artist, I can see where a high concentration of fans are and therefore where more people are likely to show up. When I look at the results in Eventful I can see how many are in a radius up to 200 miles or so, not just in a particular metro area.
So if you put in a Demand for Wellesley, let's say, I'll still see that demand when I do a search for 50 miles close to Boston.
Dwight- Awesome! If you can get enough friends interested in attending a show, it'll help push those numbers up to where I can afford to get out there. I hope to see Canada on one of my tours soon!

Well, unfortunately, it's all about the licensing. Pandora's lucky it still exists, hopefully someday it'll be able to reach beyond the states.

Ben- Yes, that is wonderful. I'm honestly more excited about the prospect at finding new fans in unexpected places, though, than anything I might get from BMI. I'm curious to see who the Music Genome Project will throw in my direction!

My unwitting contribution was the song "Everybody Needs A Ninja". I don't know where they got the other tune, but I hope they're asking permission to use that one before they re-up the video.

Thanks for pointing out the other discussion going on. It's good to see that some people are indeed aware that copyrights exist to protect starving artists like me, not make the RIAA richer and meaner. Fortunately, I'm not RIAA-backed and I can actually talk to the video's producers to make sure they're doing things right.
It's not about what's legal, after all, it's about what's right. They seem to understand that, I hope their fans will too. :)

SNZ? The reference is lost on me. I know of the band, but not these shenanigans of which you speak. Er, type. Of which you type. Anyone able to clarify?

Thanks, man, I appreciate the help! I've become a fan of Pandora since it opened my ears to Jack Johnson and other artists I'd never listened to before. I'd love to have the same opportunity for discovery of my music.

Two simple reasons: I want to drive traffic HERE to my website since I'm not selling my albums through LJ, and I'd rather just check ONE message board than have to check several. I want my visitors showing up here more than on LJ. :)

Podcast plays just register as "internet play", not as a specific site. The only other services that are registering right now are Live365 and PressPlay. If BounceRadio is a traditional internet streaming radio station (God, are they "traditional" now?) I may not be getting enough plays to make an impression on the aggregate.
I definitely appreciate the spins, though! If you can keep it up, maybe it'll register!

Yeah, it's not hard to get permission to play and record cover songs. Harry Fox and PRO's like BMI and ASCAP have a pretty easy system to work with.

OH yeah... and as for regenerative possibilities with an electric bike, it's not a good idea. The way the mechanics/physics work, it would put so much resistance on the hub motor that it would effectively stop the bike.
There's a reason the regenerative gear in the Toyota Prius is called the "Braking Gear".
You're going to get a lot better efficiency applying the pedal power to forward motion than to recharging batteries (I think the best you're going to get is, like, <del datetime="2008-08-20T02:51:02+00:00">80%</del> <ins datetime="2008-08-20T02:51:02+00:00">20%</ins> return if you're lucky).

Yes, a leg-powered bike is the most environmentally-friendly option. However, as you may have noticed in this video, there are plenty of people out there who already own bikes but don't use them. Why? Because they're work.
I have no problem biking 12 miles... but I wouldn't do it every day, and I'm a skinny bastard in great shape. Just to get to a friend's house? And show up all soaked with sweat? Not to mention taking an hour or two to get there?
The point of the Myxercycle is not to replace the bike, it's to replace the 3,500-pound van for the shorter trips.

That's the whole idea... the more people that fill up their tanks from a power plug, the easier it'll be to clean up our air and stay out of third-world affairs.
