This is a great post. I know people that fit in all those categories, hell, I may be even one of them. If I have learned nothing else from you, it is that failure is beautiful and necessary. Take it in stride and learn from it, I certainly have.

Well put. Your accept hope post was inspiration for a recent post of mine about keeping it real. To me, you exemplify the meaning of being yourself, both online and off. I wish more people would take a queue from you and be themselves :-)

Damn, all I get is an "others" reference about your favorite person in DC. Guess who is now NOT my favorite person in Boulder!

So let me understand this correctly, the title of the article states "Digg Unveils a Slew of New Features" and basically they have overhauled their commenting system, correct? If so, is it fair to say they have unveiled a slew of new features? Perhaps if you count breaking out each component of the overhaul then you could (I guess) call it a slew of new features, but I would not go that far. This is the first news of any new feature released from Digg in months, and it really is just one feature.

Failure is a part of life, we should all embrace it and learn from it. There are degrees of failure, and at the end of the day, they all help you become a better person, but depending on the failure, it can be a destination for the particular thing that you failed at.
In Andrew's writeup, the 3 companies that failed and had to close up shop, failure was a destination. Now for the owners, the failure was part of a learning process, I am sure they will not make the same mistakes again in their next business. However, their current ones, it is the end of the road for them, the final resting place.
So failure can be a destination, but it is not a destination for the person, just the destination for the failed company.

Andrew, interesting name. Why did you choose that?

I make the decision to get up and go out to do the work I need to do in order to provide for my family, which is the most important thing in my life. It also helps that I love what I do, so the decision to get up and go forth and conquer is pretty easy, but it has not always been that way (mine for other reasons than yours, but still has not always been easy). It makes me proud to know that I am providing for 4 children and a wife that love me beyond belief. It is actually my privilege to do this for them.

Deep, very deep. I am glad that you are opening up and discussing things like this, it shows another side of you that is not always readily apparent. "Doing the right thing" is a sign of a leader, but you already knew that and are well on your way to being in that position again.

Great post and sound advice. Exactly the reason horses where blinders while racing, so they cannot look behind them.

I will try to always remember this as I go through life, no matter what the situation. Just like there is no reason to look behind you, there is no reason to dwell on the past. Move forward and conquer my friend!

I lived vicariously through you and Hyde, but I wish I was there in person. Hopefully next year I will be, but it seems so far away.

It is good to hear you say that you do not know all the answers. To me, it proves that you are a good leader because you seek to understand that which you do not know. You never rest on your laurels, that is what good leaders do.

Don't we in effect already clog Twitter with our self promoting blog posts? In fact, that is how I found out about this blog post, from Nick's Tweet. I think this site is just extending what we are already doing to include sites that we do not (potentially) authors ourselves. If it does in fact turn Twitter into Digg, then those Twitter faithfuls will find something else to replace it with.

So this explains why am I am still waiting to get some feedback from you. And I was about to chalk it up to lack of love, now I know better. May the drugs take you to new places and get you to send me the feedback ;-)

Good parable, I too am a bigger fan of the young bull, old bull sitting on a hill, but somehow I am not sure that would have worked as well for this one. Perhaps you can keep that one in your back pocket for another unsolicited takeover event, I am sure you will have ample opportunity in the near future.

That is awesome to see Digg get in on the Open ID game, I guess it is better late than never. It is worth noting that they are not the first social news site to support Open ID, Mixx supported Open ID straight out of the gate.

So in the time that you have been doing the weekly recap, John C has made it on the list twice, where I have made it only once. I guess I need to kick my blogging up a notch to make another weekly recap, I am feeling left out ;-). The other option would be to send you money or some other form of bribery, but that does not seem to fair.

If I did not know any better, I would have thought you were rehashing the DC SW ;-)! Glad to see things turned around and sounds like you are on a similar path as to the one we were on, but beating us with a 9 pm launch, only time will tell.

Great post. I love how you can turn a loss of a bet into an opportunity to talk about yourself (JUST KIDDING). This was a touching post, and it is nice to hear others stories about their families and get re-affirmation on the importance of the family and the memories.
