I rarely drink coffee. But when I do it really depends on the time of day, if I am drinking it in the morning I prefer it to be black, if I'm drinking it in the afternoon-night I prefer it to be sweet and add a lot of sugar/cream.

Colin Devroe That sounds reasonable. Sometimes at night I think I might want a cold coffee instead of hot.

Funny considering I almost always type to you in two word lines whilst talking to you on aim.

Can't we just sync with del.icio.us? Or at least make that an option? In my opinion, having a separate deal would just complicate things for current users of different services.

in This Doesn’t Happen in Countries That Aren’t Close to Social Collapse on danielmiessler.com | grep understanding

I don't like the idea of complete unity, and I think for a society to work there has to be some sort of diversity. If we were ALL unified as one culture, and everything was good because of that, I think there would be a huge groupthink problem.

It would lead to anyone saying something out of the ordinary to be shunned from the culture. For an intellectual existence I think that there needs to be a certain level of disagreement and mistrust. If you go along with everything everyone is saying you're obviously not thinking for yourself - and I think that is plainly dangerous.

in My Thoughts on Depression on dmiessler.com | grep understanding

Being depressed periodically, and having clinical depression are completely different.

I think that a lot of people think that having depression is the same thing as being depressed. Everyone gets depressed now and then, whether its for a few hours or even a few days. In many cases you find that there is something around to cheer you up, and you can become undepressed fairly quickly/easily.

On the other hand with clinical depression, it lasts for weeks, months, or even years. Having such long duration, it pretty much destroys your personality. What happened for me was that anything and everything that I had once loved doing, I couldn't stand doing, I had lost motivation to everything and there was seemingly no way out of it all. I was experiencing physical and mental pain, and the only solution that could've helped was medication. Handing me a 'cheer up' gift would not have done anything for me.

So I think there is a HUGE difference with long term clinical depression, and your normal 'feeling blue'.

I was just wondering, what happens to all the money post-campaign? Does it go to charity? His pocket?

Watched this a while back and just kind of laughed at it. My school isn't as bad as the examples shown in the video but it is funny to see the way that things are elsewhere.

I like the bit where they talk to foreign kids, and they sound off on how their system works and how ours is absolutely ridiculous.

Lame - have a few good riffs but not a fan of the vocals, there is some good screaming here and there but when he tries to sing it sucks.

in Dumping Safari. Going to Camino. on dmiessler.com | grep understanding
I've gone back and forth between camino and safari for about 2 years now. I generally would use the camino nightlies which would break and send me back to safari, then safari would do something wrong so I'd go back to a newer nightly.

The reason I don't use firefox is because I'm on a ppc mac, and it's horribly and slow. I do believe that in firefox 3 they're adding cocoa widgets, so it should be just as fast as camino with the rest of the firefox goodness.

As for flock, it's not light at all, it's firefox with extra extensions. I did ~6 months of volunteer QA for them when they had spirit, back in the day :D

I 100% agree with you.

I'm starting my senior year of highschool this next week and for the last few years I've been fairly frustrated at what we're being required to learn, and the vast amount of knowledge we're not even being offered.

I luckily stumbled into philosophy and logic while reading a few papers a few years back. But for all of the kids who don't have access, or don't know how to find knowledge on the internet, they're pretty much screwed.

But Instead of being offered a class like philosophy, or a critical thinking/logic class, I'm forced to fill my schedule with pointless classes like powerpoint.

But we all know powerpoint is an important life skill that we can't live without... right?!?
