I agree with pretty much all of this. I thought the portrayal of abortion was excellent, wished Otis had been ace (and liked him best when being completely free of toxic masculinity in his friendship with Eric) - and very much thought the Eric/Adam relationship was mishandled.

However, I actually think the show *could* have made it work - if Adam's arc during the season had included toning down his behavior towards Eric (who's my favourite, btw!), long before that moment during detention. Instead it really was full-on "he's pulling your pig tails because he likes you", leaving me dumbfounded over Eric's acceptance.

Can we not generalise? There's different types of shippers, and many of us engage with canon on many levels. It *never* used to be about your ship needing to be endgame, and I don't get that type of fan culture at all (just as I don't get "anti" or "purity" culture), but that doesn't mean shipping isn't a valid expression of fandom.

Also, shippers are majority female and/or lgbtq, so dismissing them as a whole can smack of gatekeeping, imho.

Such a cute movie! I've already watched it twice, because this is my kind of teen romcom - funny and sweet, without cringe factor. Now I'm looking forward to seeing Crazy Rich Asians!

I love Nat and Steve as friends. Maybe I couldn't/didn't want to see romantic chemistry because my shipper heart was already taken for both of them during Winter Soldier - I'd fallen for Stucky in TFA and for Clintasha in Avengers. You will never convince me that Clint and Natasha weren't set up as a possible romance (maybe even a secret established relationship). Natasha even wore an arrow necklace in Winter Soldier, and I will never understand what Joss was thinking in AoU, giving us Bruce x Nat and Clint's secret farm family...

Danke für das Interview - allerdings muss ich gestehen, dass ich enttäuscht bin zu hören, dass es kein Happy End gibt. Realismus hin oder her, es gibt mehr als genug unglückliche oder gar tote Schwule im Kino (vgl. Brokeback Mountain), es wäre eher mal erfrischend, wenn es gut ausgeht...

I saw it yesterday morning in an empty theatre, but I'm sure it'll do well in Switzerland, too, because oh my, it's AWESOME! I walked out incredibly impressed, it's probably my second-favourite MCU film (after Winter Soldier). What struck me were a) that there are exactly 2 speaking roles for white people which is very refreshing and b) that T'Challa is surrounded by women. Literally all the supporting characters on his side (except for one late-comer) are female and incredibly important. Will definitely go see again!

Being a fan of quick-witted dialogue and strong female relationships, I recommend the first 4 seasons - once Rory goes off the rails and the relationship between her and Lorelai suffers (season 5), the show lost some of its appeal for me. Those seasons, though (especially 1+2) were my comfort during a time when I was seriously depressed in my early 20s, and I must have watched my favourite episodes a dozen times at least... (For the record, my all-time favourite episode is "Snow and Love and War" because I have a similar relationship to snow as Lorelai and a soft spot for her then-love interest Max.)

Oh wow, there are some serious deviations from my own list... most notably The End of Time (Ten just wallows way too much for my taste) and A Christmas Carol (woman in a fridge, spending her last days with a random almost-stranger instead of her family, really?) both are far from being my faves.

For a bit I was afraid they'd scrapped Raphael's asexuality when the Isabelle plot began, so getting that moment from him was really lovely. Shadowhunters is far from perfect, but it's got gay, bi (a guy!) & ace representation, multiple POC, awesome women, and a straight guy not ashamed of his platonic love for his (gay) "soulmate" - I'm hopelessly addicted... :) All my knowledge of the books is second-hand, and none of it has made me want to read them or changed my stance on CC.

Well, if they do go the Tarkin/Cushing route, I hope they'll do a better job than with the Leia cameo at the end of R1... She just looked completely fake to me - not just way on the wrong side of the uncanny valley, but her face simply didn't look like Leia in ANH...

I... just don't know if I can stomach any more of Quentin, unless he gets a personality transplant. It's a problem I have, where I can't enjoy a book if I don't like the main character (unpopular opinion - it's why I stopped reading Harry Potter after book 4, because I wanted to slap him silly although rationally I know he was just being a teenager who had to deal with a lot). So maybe the tv show first, so Quentin can grow on me?

Afaik Netflix only works in certain countries - I don't think the airspace between Zurich, Singapore and Christchurch counts...

Edited to add: Actually, they have Netflix in New Zealand! I'm totally watching it in the first hostel with wifi. My mom (who's coming with me) will just have to cope. Thank you, kind person, for giving me the idea to check! *g*

I squeed out loud - all my favourite things are in this, from snappy banter to glimpses of ALL the people (did we know Sookie was in it after all?!)... and then I saw the release date. I'm leaving for a month in NZ on the 25th. I wonder if there'll be a d/l available before I have to go to the airport... I didn't think there could be anything to make me want to postpone my trip, but I just love this show so much.

There are different levels of RPF shippers - some of us have never had any problems distinguishing fact from fiction. Believe me, when I wrote love stories about me and Howie Dorough when I was 14, it was on the exact same level as the Mary Sue crap I wrote about me and Mr. Spock or Sherlock Holmes.

I always try to explain it as using a real person's public persona, which is almost like a character and has little or nothing to do with their private self. Which is why few things get me to *facepalm* quite as much as when fans bring up that sort of thing with the objects of their fantasies. I think one of the problems is that in this age of social media it's way too easy for fans to feel as if they actually know these people.

(in the early 2000s I used to be in Lotrips - Lord of the Rings Real Person Slash - fandom, and there was this section of Dom/Elijah tinhatters... I stayed well away from that madness! The situation here reminds of that, actually. Except there was no Twitter then, thank goodness, and no William Shatner to get involved.)

Fun fact: the strategic placement of the mask of a king, the Lällekönig, at the corner opposite on the Grossbasel side: He's sticking out his tongue at the dancers, in retaliation of their showing him their backsides. It might not be historically related, but that's the explanation I was given as a child.

I've been a wreck since seeing this for the first time... All the FEELS! There's the (expected) metric ton of Bucky & Steve feels, with a heaping of Natasha, but it looks as if the Russos will give Tony believable motivations, too. I might not make it through that movie without wailing like a banshee, if the incoherent noises I made during the trailer are any indication... *g*

That image of him holding Rhodey! Plus I loved the glimpses of Falcon, Black Panther and Scarlet Witch we got! (And how awesome does Steve & Bucky tag-teaming Iron Man look?)

Hmm... That trailer actually makes me kind of want to the book, which until now I've avoided like the plague, afraid in my Austen-loving heart it'd be some kind of money-grubbing travesty. But it looks like light-hearted fun, so maybe I should reconsider.
