I had read one of Ruth Reichl's memoirs, "Garlic and Sapphires," which is about her tenure as a food critic for the New York Times. I fell in love with her writing, and the idea of the meals she was eating, which were described so viscerally. When my mum and I decided to visit N.Y. I gave her a copy of the book to get her on board with my idea that we had to go to one of the featured restaurants. We ended up at Jean-Georges, and it was the most amazing meal I have ever had. Just the service! It was impeccable... for a better description than I can give read Reichl's book. Reading about food is almost as good as eating it. Sigh.

Lots of light. Warm woods. The perfect reading chair. Books on bookshelves. I'm another one who is torn between an apartment in the city near books and bakeries and a house near water somewhere beautiful and serene. So I would like both. A big kitchen that is well laid out. Love.

I don't really love Katie Holmes in this, but it could be the overdoing it in the "punk" look they're going for. I do, however, LOVE this film. It is so touching and well made.

"A Love Song for Bobby Long" is one that I never would have heard of if someone didn't recommend it, and I loved it. A young woman (Scarlett Johansson) returns to her childhood home after the death of her mother to find two men (friends of her mother's) living there, with no plans to leave. It is such a beautiful film about the discovery of others.

"Monsoon Wedding" is always at the top of my list of favourite films. A sometimes sad, sometimes funny, always glorious film about everyone involved with a wedding in India.

Servant Leadership also resonates very very strongly with me. What made it so fascinating and important to my view of leadership is the idea that the leader is actually servant first. It was a total lightbulb moment when I realized that I could do my best work in serving and helping others and have that be a form of leadership. I was always afraid of the idea of leadership before I read about Servant Leadership.
