in Snooze You Lose Alarm Clock on Elliott Back's Blog
Did you read the fine print: "Really Fine Print: ThinkGeek reserves the right to take up to a 50% commision on all donations made through the SnūzNLūz. In fact the software supplied with the clock ensures such is the case. Yay!. However, we promise to only use the money for rockets and beach front property."
Guess that explains the low price. I still want it!

in Amazon Prime Free Trial? — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
Any number of things could have happened to those notifications, right? Spam filters, etc. Do they even have to come via email? Anyhow, I would recommend cancelling regardless of how the trial goes. Just sign up again the next time you need overnight shipping.

How is the headphone jack adapter? I might end up getting it because I don't want to blast my ears out on the bus by using the standard headphones.

in iPod Touch: Mixed Reviews — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
Every single Apple earnings conference call you hear them say the same thing. Product mix, product mix, product mix. They might be going a little overboard here with the iPod classic staying in the lineup, but I think they've been very successful at segmentation in the past yet aren't scared to quickly adapt to market conditions (i.e. dropped iPhone 4G and price drop).
Don't forget, margins on the iPod classic are probably through the roof.

in Apple’s iPhone Hype Fallacy — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
I'm also a bit unfazed by the news. Of course iPhone outsells other smartphones the first month its out. Millions might be an overstatement. I'm sure you're well aware of the 10 million in 2008 prediction?

in Dreamhost Virtual Server — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
All of Dreamhosts plans offer "unlimited" databases and since they say you get "the same dedicated MySQL servers" with Dreamhost PS, there's no evidence database performance would improve.

I wonder why they used a closing element for the logo.

Having a minimum wage does have it's costs, but it also gives people with presumably the most pent-up demand some more spending power.

in Overstock Pricing Error on Elliott Back's Blog
Overstock's IT is basically hopeless. I ordered 3 items before Christmas that netted me two separate tracking numbers, one that "shipped" and one that never got past electronic notification. I used their live chat thing like 5 times before they'd resend the product. Worst part is that each time, they were completely assured yet completely oblivious of the order's status. They finally agreed to cancel the order and reship it after almost 2 months. I haven't ordered anything since.

Although it seems simple, there seems to be some academic underpinnings. The help page says the app was developed with technology licensed from CMU. Although they don't have Riya, Google aquired another company that has very similar technologies even broader in scope than facial recognition. Do a search for neven vision... I'm not risking any links.

Karl, instead of focusing on a case of improper use of the software, here's a legitimate one. Say I pay you to reprint your content on my site. Shouldn't I be able to use my own ads and then pay you a cut? Especially if you're not a big A-lister?

A thief with a conscience. Or, maybe it unclipped itself. I find clipping it to the belt to be much more secure.
