Will Shipley, the iconic dev for delicious monster, has been talking the appstore as warehouse since the last Macworld. Here's my take:
1. Hockenberry should take responsibility for marketing his own ideas.
2. Hockenberry should respect ringtone apps. In some contexts, they blow twitterific out of the water, without having 1/50th of the usefulness. IE, is Twitterific going to be a hit at a party? um, yeah. No.
3. Hockenberry has obviously forgotten what it's like to be a really small dev shop busting ass working two full time jobs to support iphone application development. We're working twelve-hour days so we can squeeze in time to build our own apps. And our apps have to be cheap. We don't have a cushy office and a full dev team to play around with.

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful article. More power to you.

Re: The $0.99 (App) Store

Jesse, right on.

Also, what happened to the creative marketing campaigns of era's long forgotten. We could learn a thing from JP Barnum. Hockenberry is being a baby and thinks he deserves the world, wrapped in a bow and served in a silver spoon.

Re: The $0.99 (App) Store

Man I wish. Are you ever in Toronto? FutureRuby is coming up here soon, looks like we'll have lots of awesome people coming up for that.

Re: Email Pain Point Solved by Social Network

This is pretty common on facebook for me, i wish there was a way to unsubscribe from those email conversations entirely. But you know what, it's sort of fun to yell at a captive audience.

Re: Powell’s Obama vs. McCain’s Obama

For all of Powell's eloquence and his acceptance of the need for "generational change," I would have still liked to see a more honest response to the WMD question. For someone to be so entangled in the Bush Doctrine might not be good for democrats. I guess the question comes down to this: Can the American public forgive Powell for his complicity in 2001, or will his endorsement of Obama serve to undermine the Bush-McCain connection that Obama's camp has been so meticulously crafting since this contest began?

Re: Porn Shops and Tech - Toronto’s Silicon Valley

Interesting post. I find it hilarious that these huge entities think they're going to do something productive. Really what they're going to do is waste millions in time and money and inhibit intelligent people from really becoming good devs. They really don't get it do they?

We don't need them. They're big slow clunky entities that think they can get in this game. Seriously, you want to make an iPhone app? buy a book. Don't waste your time treading the murky waters of corporate education and stifling bureaucracy.

The tech scene in toronto is already awesome, full of bright young people going out on their own. And this scene is only awesome because of the hard work we put in every day.

Thanks for your thoughts, I'm definitely going to reference this article in the post that I feel I must write.

Re: The X Factor of Successful Startups: Love

If the main point is that love and passion for business results in success, I'm not sure I can agree. But then again, you don't really define love, passion or success - so I can't say either way. It would also be helpful to see what you mean when you say, "buy yourself a job," because that seems like it could be an interesting idea if it was expanded and contextualized.

I know plenty of people who are passionate and love what they do. Great. That doesn't guarantee they're good at what they do, or that they have what it takes to "succeed." But then again, if we define success as "loving what you do passionately," then I know a lot of people that fit the bill - inside and out of the entrepreneurial world.

Re: The Spoke Theory: To drive an audience, every marketing wheel needs a “hub”

I was in a town car last night coming home from the airport and I saw a billboard for something (i can't remember what) and it had a fairly prominent URL on it, and I remember thinking, "how stupid is this? Who is going to remember a URL while they're driving from point a to point b, and hopefully concentrating on the road?

If they had just put their name in a really big font, I might have remembered it. But then again, maybe not.

Re: Ignited: Is 30 minutes too much to ask?

Aaron Magness's response was lame.
