in Colour disability - echo "hey, it works" > /dev/null on echo "hey, it works" > /dev/null
I can barely make out what appears to be 44 in the left hand picture. The middle image is very clear, while the right hand image, while I see it, is somewhat less vivid than the middle image. I did the sensitivity test (which is pretty cool). It showed some difficulty in the same range you scored the worse, so that may explain that, as well as some difficutly in the reds at the lower end of the spectrum. Overall score was 29. It's not something most of us think about much, but these things show how much we miss, even when we're 'normal'.

in What would make a WordPress geek go to Habari ? - echo "hey, it works" > /dev/null on echo "hey, it works" > /dev/null
I would add two more user-oriented reasons to user Habari rather than WordPress.
First, it has support for multiple database backends, especially SQLite. The vast majority of blogs don't need to use a DBMS as resource intensive as MySQL. SQLite fits the bill perfectly here. It is fast enough for most blogs and backing up your blog's database is as easy as copying a file.
Second, it is easy to run multiple blogs off one Habari installation. Want to start a new blog? Get your domain name, Create a directory with the the same name as the domain in your Habari user directory. Create a new config file. Then install the blog. From that point on there is only one install of Habari to maintain. Server space is saved. Maintenance is decreased.

HA!
Well done. Puts me in mind of the time I took my son, a Marine at the time, to the airport when he was returning back to base from leave. He was wearing a uniform. As a result, he was subjected to a much more extensive security check than the passengers in civilian clothing.
His pants, however, did not fall down. :)

in Moving Domains - Fun with Habari on Fun with Habari
This is brilliant, Andrew. I switched one WordPress site to Habari, and laboriously changed all the urls with SQL and by hand. I still have one more site that is quite a bit larger to convert. I'll be using this technique to change all the links.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Thanks Rick. Just don't do what I did and spell your domain name wrong :-)

in My First Habari Plugin on Fun with WordPress
Nice comparison of some of the differences between writing WordPress and Habari plugins.
You are quite right about Habari's documentation on writing plugins being a little thin right now, but there is an introduction to writing plugins on Habari's wiki, as well as a list of Habari's plugin hooks that makes the job of finding what to hook into to accomplish a task easier.

Woo hoo! I'm famous now.
Seriously, I do like Habari's publish page interface that much. It can use some improvements, especially in regard to being able to tab from control to control, but it has what I need in conveniently locations. The designers can be proud of their work.

in Banks Encourage Global Warming on The Marketing Technology Blog
Just to make you feel better - no, not really.
I would say it's new bank time, but the situation wouldn't improve. Your only real option is to talk to your local bank manager.
Re the 1400 ATMs - that's 1400 between the two banks, not 1400 new ones, and spread between how many states? And, have you ever seen a Huningdon ATM where you live? I've never seen one here.
My personal accounts bank is at a Sky, too. It's been sold three or four times since I've been there. I've never had a problem, but I don't use ATMs.

Excellent advice, Doug. Most useful behavioral advice is simple, and as you say, difficult.

in Podcasting 101: The Basics, The Questions and The Future on Instigator Blog
Doing a podcast definitely takes longer than writing a post, even when you're not writing completely new material for the podcast. It's worth the time, though. Some people would rather listen to something than read it, and the production is an enjoyable experience.
I started trying to use music since I read the notes on your presentation. I was amazed at the extent and variety of music is on the Podsafe Music Network. It does make a pleasant difference in the final result of the podcast. Thank you.

in WordPress: MySQL Search and Replace using PHPMyAdmin on The Marketing Technology Blog
Do you get anything with the banner ads on your index page, Doug? I didn't do well with them.
In general, the in-post ads (180 and 250 wide) and the ads after a post (336 wide) have gotten the most attention.

Interesting, Rick. I actually messed up and haven't been tracking the ads by page up until about a week ago. So far, no clicks on the main index page! It's something I'm going to keep my eye on.
Thanks!
Thanks!

in Does Multitasking Really Make You More Productive? on Instigator Blog
I'm right there with you on the monotasking, Ben. I never thought I would see someone recommend loud music, but it can help, for the reasons you gave and because it's like getting a shot of caffeine. My preferred choices are Rush, Hendrix, Zeppelin, and Bach.

Thanks, Rick! Feel free to 'borrow' it if you'd like. I saw that Wikipedia formed each date with the Month_date so I just wrote a little Javascript event to concatenate the values into a new location for the browser.
It would have been a lot easier except that IE7 didn't default the value to the select item. So the form took up twice the room for that.
That's a cool three to share a birthday with!

Just wanted to say I've paid more attention to coComment since this post. I'm actually starting to like it quite a bit. It's reduced the amount of mail in my mailbox, and I'm keeping track of the conversations I'm participating in better.

in Own Your Domain! on The Marketing Technology Blog
Thanks for referring to my post, Doug. I appreciate it.
I'm in complete agreement about owning your own domain as soon as possible if not right from the start of blogging. You open up a lot more options for yourself. And things tend to grow. You may start out experimenting just to see if you like it, and so use someone else's platform. But if you find out you do like it and want more freedom, you've invited a lot of work for yourself and the other consequences you talked about.

The subscribe icon and tag looks good in both Firefox 2 and IE7. Both also found your feed with no problem.
The subscribe icon and tag are on both your home page and single post pages, just not your archive pages.

in The Long Tail of Commenting: Never Blog Alone on The Marketing Technology Blog
Hi Doug!
This is the first time I've seen a quantitative measurement of the number of referrals you can get from commenting on other blogs. The numbers are amazing.
Your reasons for commenting are even more important, though:
Participating in a conversation because you have something to add rather than because of what you'll get out of it is what makes blogging fun and worthwhile.

I don’t do it thinking that it’s going to help my blog; rather, I do it to correct information I think is wrong, encourage folks who I think are doing a great job, and add supporting material to arguments that others make.

Hey Ben!
The change looks good. I especially like the new color scheme.
The scroll bar shows up at 800x600. The cutoff is about half way through your subscribe button, so the contact link is off screen. All content shows up, though.
