I'm having the same, non-bootable issue. I know the machine can boot from USB and I can pick the USB stick from the BIOS boot menu but it always tells me there is no bootable partition. I can see the files are all on the USB drive. There must be something more to this...

in ‘The Jungle’ in Postville Affects Us All (by Brian Brandsmeier) on God's Politics
A brief tangent on the "steps for action"

"Enjoy high quality coffee from Juan Ana Coffee. This small coffee company in San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala, helps to provide local people with land, jobs, and homes. It literally helps to provide land for the landless. Drink some coffee. Help people in poverty. Help reduce the need for immigration. Everyone wins!"

Actually, everyone will not win and the coffee farmers will not be better off. The presumably higher price you pay for this coffee from Juan Ana creates an artificially higher price above the rest of the market, encouraging an excess supply of labor and supply of coffee. Any gains that the farmers would make from growing Juan Ana coffee would be offset by losses to the other farmers who cannot sell their coffee at that higher price. All the farmers will compete for the business and the higher wages, some will be able to sell their coffee at the higher price, others will not. This system creates a “winner takes all” zero-sum game.

Furthermore, in the long run the higher wages (and other benefits such as housing and land) will provide incentive for more workers to enter the coffee business. In order for a country to grow economically and for the people to be truly lifted from poverty they will need to focus on a trade that is more profitable than coffee. Look at the U.S. - we have very few people employed in agriculture, yet we are still productive in it and we have a booming economy and the highest wages in the world.

To truly help the Guatemalan people, you should donate money towards their education or career retraining.

in How Premier League Players Flaunt Wealth Is Absolutely Sickening on EPL Talk
I'm not going to knock anyone for how they spend their money. Especially pro athletes who spend their wages on lavish toys and the lot. There just happens to be a lot of money floating around. What are they supposed to do with it?

I'd reckon that many of them, Stevie G included give a decent amount to charities and youth groups as well. Obviously that's not going to reported as much.

Disposable income is disposable income no matter how much money you have. If I blow some money on a DVD it's the same as Gerrard buying a gym. We just happen to live in different economic planets. His just happens to be Mars.

in Top 5 Worst Football Shirt Designs Of 08/09 Premier League Season on EPL Talk
I'd actually say the Arsenal kits are pretty awful this year. And the Man U Away kit.

It seems that clubs are trying to do too much or using colors that are not even in their schemes.

Cheers to Spurs, Fulham, Middlesbrough, and Hull for pretty sleek and classic looking kits.

truthseeker,

Good point. It was important for her to recognize that the process was fair, but she didn't. And she also keeps mentioned 18 million, when her vote was not even close to that. Every time they say 18 million, what they are saying is that they won the popular vote, which is only true if you give her 300k votes in MI and Obama 0 and then don't count IA, WA, NV and ME. But do count Puerto Rico, which is bizarre, because they are a territory.

smoothie,

Of course I meant for 2010 for SJL, the Dem primary has long since passed. But I have heard that her days are as numbered like Al Wynn. There seems to be a lot of motivation in getting her out, the only issue is how it will happen. The biggest obstacle will be to ensure that the anti SJL crowd get united, because if the primary field is crowded, the vote will get diluted and it won't be possible. Obviously there are a lot of people in her district who would be rising stars and qualified to run against her. There is a huge talent pool there.

STJ is in trouble, but because of her committee chairmanship, it will be really difficult to raise funds to oppose her.

One of the reasons that Donna Edwards was so successful was that they cleared the field for her and she was able to raise money from and get a lot of support from SEIU.

truthseeker,

Jackson-Lee is more vulnerable than Tubbs Jones. Tubbs Jones has a committee chairmanship and Obama did well in her district, but not like anywhere else. I hate that woman, she is (and I hate to say it) ghetto. Her two sons are ghetto too. None of them know how to behave and dignify themselves.

Jackson-Lee on the other hand has some troubles. Her district went Obama like 95%. When she showed up her county delegate convention, her own constituents basically turned on her and she was left muttering some crap about how she gave her "word" or something stupid. Just watch this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwfAOVAIXog

And then she doubled down and kept going on TV being the Clintons attack dog on Obama. She's in trouble.

Anyone notice that Maxime Waters didn't get herself involved in this crap? And Waters came out and endorsed Obama, switching from Clinton, before the polls closed in Montana.

I think Jackson-Lee's days are numbered. I understand that there is a lot of interest in getting Tubbs Jones out, but I think she is too entrenched.

in Champions League Final Reveals Ugly Side Of English Football on EPL Talk
I'm sorry but I disagree 100%. I thought the game was full of fantastic drama and excitement. As far as behavior issues, that's what football on the big stage seems to be these days. Zidane headbutts and Drogba slappings seem to be popping up more then ever.

There is such a small window of opportunity right now in the world game for so many of these players given financial structures and a lack of parody. So when someone flips out and acts childish I can understand to a point. Not to say it's right, but I can understand.

Great drama all around and that's what everyone wants anyway.

I don't believe this was a game that hurt the EPL at all. It just showed how much passion there was on the pitch. Plus this a nice rivalry, I don't want much sportsmanship. God forbid Michael Jordan showed any sportsmanship against the Knicks during their Championship run. Everyone loves a good battle, even if it gets a little dodgy at times.

A better movie. You know, someone should make a documentary about the underhandedness of the ID movement and the production of this movie, in particular.

in Have Yourself A Merry Little War On Christmas! on FOX Attacks!
Maybe if I didn't hear him say "I think those people are nuts" out of context 8 times it would have been a bit more effective. I'm 16 and we get out of school after Hanukkah, leading me to believe we're getting out for Christmas. I agree with Bill O'Reilly. If someone asks what I opened up on holiday morning it makes me think "those people are nuts."(And yes, Christmas morning has been referred to as holiday morning.) The politically correctness of some people in America drives me up the wall. Are you really that worried about offending someone that you can't say what you want to say (or what is appropriate to say.) O'Reilly had a jewish woman on his show a few weeks ago and he wished her a Happy Hanukkah. That's appropriate. Assuming the average person to be an atheist, is foolish. Most people in America are Christians. And O'Reilly has an opinion show on Fox. He's said it. He calls it like it is (in his eyes.) And when he makes a mistake he admits it. This video is crap. Advice to the webmaster psst...shut the hell up.

And another thing all during Hanukkah Fox ran commercials all day wishing everyone a Happy Hanukkah, they even had a nice menorah with the correct number of candles lit for each day of the celebration.
