in Google Sends Me 98% Of My Traffic on Thom Allen Weblog
98% is quite high. Do you think different search engines have a different audience focus? I wonder how much the topics you choose affect which engines bring you traffic. I checked the stats for my (very small) blog and I currently get 84% of search engine traffic from Google, but I was also intrigued to see that I get more traffic from MSN/Live than I do from Yahoo. Interesting to note that those measuring the digital world say that Google gained 1.1% market share in August 2008 to reach 63%.

in eBiz for Everyone - Sterling Okura of BizLift.com - Jun 30,2008 on CouchCast
I've listened to few couchcast shows so far, and I've really enjoyed them. I am very interested in the two open source projects for ecommerce that Sterling mentioned Apache Open for Business and Magento. I would also like to hear more about the open source rock star project you guys mentioned. Can you post more information about that as soon as it is available?

Seriously great photo series. My favorite shot is the wide angle one showing you at the right, metal sculptures in the foreground, and blue SLC skies amongst refections of buildings distorted by the Abravanel Hall windows in the background. Brilliant shot!

in Don’t Be A Know-It-All on Utah Tech Jobs
Funny that "don't lie" seems so obvious but needs to be said. It's sort of like the advice to "wear deodorant." Heh. In addition to interviews, the advice should also be extended to resume writing: "don't lie on your resume."

@sheri bigelow Right. Al Gore has an amazing, *amazing* resume (per-se), yet he consistently seemed to claim a little more than he really did.

in Three Things Jobseekers Need on Utah Tech Jobs
I think most people want two basic things at work... 1) to be included in work they are good at and 2) to be appreciated. Do you think that getting back to basics and identifying core skills could help people find their purpose? Think, "what am I really good at?" "How can I work on projects that I'm really good at and that make a difference for my company?"
A resume that works... deserves a link to the best resume podcast episode I've ever listened to, and one you recommended to me last year: Your Resume Stinks!

in Interview Rules for Designers on Utah Tech Jobs
Hmm. Without reading Jessica's advice, I probably wouldn't have considered bringing a printed portfolio to a web designer interview. At my last interview though, I took a summary of my recent work. It was like a portfolio, it had small images showing my work, but it also had a lot of text explanation. I wouldn't consider it a full-blown printed portfolio. It went over pretty well. (I did get the job.) One cool thing to do might be to get a few little portfolio books printed like the ones available through iPhoto or PhotoWorks. And, if you printed one of the nicer books, you wouldn't necessarily have to give it to the interviewer--you could just show it. It might be a nice keepsake to have later anyway.

Andy, I was wondering what new microphone you got. I'd like to know what works well. Just listened to a great podcast of a SXSW panel about podcasting where they talked about all kinds of nifty podcasting equipment:
