I recently wrote about my struggles as well. It is so hard to get to the gym regularly to work out. My problem is the opposite. I've always struggled to keep weight on. I worked out really hard to build a solid muscular body only to have it waste away. I've lost 40 lbs. since I got married five years ago. Twenty of those lbs were lost after our son was born. It has bothered me quite a bit, but I try not to let it anymore. It's the way it is.

Weighing the options of allergy medicine or eight Raven games, I'd take the games too. I'd just settle for some over-the-counter Clariton. Thankfully, I don't have an allergy problem.

This is an excellent post. I like your rationale and I agree with you regarding "individual first; husband second; dad third; and, everything else falls later on the list."

I can't say I've ever been asked the question about the importance of being a good husband vs. good father. However, I would just say I'm dedicated to striving for both, no matter how difficult or impossible it may be.

Thanks for the preview into teenager/parent communication. Its hard to imagine when they're toddlers and never quit talking that they'll turn into minimalists when it comes to talking/texting/IM with their parents.

BTW...I'm kind of glad that we only have a boy (for now). The prospect of having a 13 year old daughter with a boyfriend scares me to death.

Wow...that's a lot of diet soda and coffee. Is that in one day? I only have one cup of coffee per day and I think I probably have only one diet soda (regular gives me headaches) per week, if that. I actually went three years without any soda, but recently started drinking them again, though not too often. I don't know if it's because we live in one of the driest climate on Earth, but we drink primarily water.

An exercise plan may help you in your quest. I know it's hard to find time. I definitely have that problem.

Great start to the series. I think as husbands and wives go, we all agree that marriage is tough and should not be entered into with reservations. It also requires remarkable commitment. Everyone I've met that divorce all have the same story -- one member of the two-person partnership gave up too easy. It takes strong and willing individuals to make a marriage work. I really enjoyed reading the Mom's insights. There is something common among them all -- it's the fact that sometimes we need to just take a break from the rat race and simply show some affection and appreciation. It's the little things. And it goes both ways.

@BusyDad - Sometimes I feel the same way. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in fatherhood that being a good husband seems to take the backburner. I need to work on that.

As I suspected it appears that the definition of HOT varies from woman to woman. Based on what the ladies say though, appearances are not as important as character. And I agree. However, I do believe that husbands and wives should at least make some kind of effort to look good for their mate. Many changes in our appearances are inevitable with age, but there are ways to work with what you got.

Mr. Lady, I'm all for the preggo sex. My wife and I even did the deed the night before our son was born. Of course, there are logistical challenges in regard to position, especially in the final trimester. But I'm flexible and we make it work.

All of the ladies' insights were very good. I think our situation mirrors Kim's the most. We still have that spark and when we do have opportunities to get down and dirty, it's all very good and satisfying. Our challenge, mostly during the week, is fatigue. And it affects both of us. Although it may not be very romantical, we've become planners. We wake up in the morning and are feeling the love, so we make it a date and do everything we can throughout the day to make sure we're prepared (and not too tired) for our frisky, late evening rendevous. Anticipation is the driver. Sure, it lacks spontaneity, but we forget about that when the moment arrives. And, on occasion it doesn't work out, but 90 percent of the time it does. That's a pretty good success rate if you ask me.

There appears to be some common pet peeves and others that are surprising. I know my wife has some, but at the same time, she does things that annoy the hell out of me too. Some of our pet peeves are addressed and resolved for a period of time before they creep back into play again months later. After all, we are creatures of habit. Other behaviors, because they're minor, are overlooked because there is no reason to sweat the small stuff. It's all about compromise and understanding human nature.

Another great post from the ladies. And no surprise this time as the common message is that a Good Dad is one that is one that is involved on many levels. Based upon that, I feel like I should be given a trophy, because I am very involved. Everyday when I get home from work I take my son for a walk to the park, I give him his bath every night, I read to him before bedtime and tuck him in. I work all day, so I cherish my evenings with my son. It's very important for me and for him. It's special dad and son bonding time.

Congratulations Jeremy for putting together such a great series and thank you ladies for your great insight. It was eye opening to say the least.

I wouldn't call myself a compulsive cleaner. Although, when I'm in a mad mood, I usually find myself cleaning. I think it's for the same reasons you mentioned. But when it comes to clutter and not having things in order, I can be a bit of a freak. Let's just say it's one of my "pet peeves."

Hmmmm....interesting anal tendencies. I'm on board with a couple of your points, but others not so much, like the underwear thing. I don't even fold (gasp!). They get thrown straight from the clothes drying into a drawer. Out of sight, out of mind. My only real anal tendency has to do with clutter, particularly on the kitchen counter. I'm constantly clearing everything off and I can't go to sleep at night knowing there is stuff out on the kitchen counter. This includes my wife's purse, my wife's magazines, my wife's mail, my wife's shopping bags...you get the picture.

No Jammy party at our house. Our Mother's Day was surprisingly low key. I invested in a prenatal massage on Saturday night (for her, not me) and on Sunday we spent the day relaxing, which included enjoying our 88 degree weather at the pool. Sometimes it's good to just have nothing going on.

Thanks for sharing everything. I'm sure doing so helped you deal with this unfortunatel struggle. The blogging community, especially moms and dads, are quite a supportive bunch. I'm very glad to be part of it as you are too. I'm extremely happy to see Caitlin is doing well and finally at home. You were actually very fortunate that she recovered quickly and her stay was only 23 days. Two college friends of mine ended up getting married and having a child. Their little boy was born about six weeks early too. However, his stay in the NICU was about three months due to a series of complications. Of course, he's a strong (and big) boy now, so you would never even guess that he was ever in that type of situation. Babies are fighters. It's amazing.

That sounds like an awesome hometown. I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up in such a quaint town. Instead, I grew up among the urban clutter of the Los Angeles area coast. Yep, I was a city/beach kid. My visits to the L.A. area often remind me of my youth, when my only responsibilities were going to school and making it home by curfew after hitting the waves for afternoon surf sessions and hanging out with friends. Those were definitely the days. But as you brought this up it also has got me thinking about Z-Dub and the memories he will develop of his childhood home and town. We live in the City of Sin, which isn't a very nurturing environment for a child. Despite the fact that we live in a beautiful, quaint neighborhood that's nestled in the hills above the city, the city that surrounds us is filled with casinos, nightclubs, strip clubs and the overwhelming sense of gluttony and vanity. I don't want these to be part of his childhood memory. He'll grow up jaded. To remedy that, we may make a big move in a couple of years. I like Austin, TX or Raleigh, NC areas.

Free daycare? Or even not free, some assistance? Wow. That is amazing. I pay more than $800 per month for one child. When our second son is born soon, we'll be paying close to $2,000. But that's more than my wife makes working, so she'll probably stay home and take care of the kids instead.

Great tips. Luckily we've never experienced such a mess with our two year old, but that may also have to do with the fact that he's never taken a bath. He's a shower kid. Even as an infant. But I can't imagine anything worse than Mr. Hanky floating in the tub.

We're all too familiar with flying with a little one (soon to be two little ones). We fly A LOT. My son is 2.5 years old and has been on at least six cross country trips and probably another 20 short, regional flights. He's a pro.

We've learned to bring snacks and a few of his favorite books/toys. We also have a mini DVD player so he can be entertained by some of his favorite movies...Nemo, Cars, etc. That has been the best for keeping him relatively well behaved for five plus hours.

Great post. We've found that some parents just don't bother to pay any attention to whether their putting other kids at risk by exposing their sickly kids to them. We're very careful about that. We had when our son is sick and we'd feel extremely guilty if we infected a friend's kid.

We're all too familiar with the tubes. My son suffers from chronic ear infections too. He had his first at eight weeks old and had at least one every month after that until recently. He's now 2 1/2. He got tubes put in last fall and continued to get ear infections. The doc informed us that he needs new tubes because they others have fallen out. They will also be taking his adnoids. I feel so sorry for him. It's hereditary. I went through the same thing.

We recently purchases a 42-inch, LCD 1080p. I didn't want to go any bigger than that. I also seriously debated the purchase of LCD or Plasma. We opted for LCD because of the glare factor. We also paid more for 1080p, because it's optimum for HD service by our cable provider.We're extremely happy with it so far. Watching HD channels on it is spectacular, especially the National Geographic Channel.

Wow... you did an amazing job. We went through the trouble of putting together a finely decorated nursery for our first son and he never slept in it. We moved when he was six months old, but prior to that he slept in our room. We're not even going to bother repeating our efforts for the next boy (coming in November). He'll sleep in our room for a couple of months and eventually move in with his big brother. His new room is decorated in Disney Cars theme.

I too am so familiar with the fast past at which a toddler advances. Our just-turned-two-year-old has quite the vocabulary, much like The Babito. He's grown up so much that he doesn't even take baths anymore. He prefers a shower like his dad.

Welcome to our club. Our son was an angel until just before the age of two. He now does all that you mentioned and much, much more. Time outs are frequent at our house. Although, he's beginning to scoff at them. It's exhausting and I hear it lasts for quite a while...well into the threes. I guess we just have to man up and take it. Count to ten, etc....

Transition #1: We're still trying to convince our two-year-old to use the potty. He'll show interest when he's ready. I've heard that pressuring them doesn't work.

Transition #2: Our son moved to a twin bed just before turning two. He sleeps with his door open, as do we. We have a monitor in our room, so if he makes much noise we'll wake up. We haven't had any wandering problems at all. The most he's done is wander into our room to wake us up.

Transition #3: For us the Terrible Twos have actually not been very "terrible." I think every kid is different. Some kids are fine at two and bring on their terribleness at three. Only time will tell.

I root for both teams as well. Growing up in the L.A. area we went to games of both teams. However, Dodgers are my dad's most favorite.

I was sad to see the Angels fall short. But at least I have the other team to root for.

Great book choices. I think Z-Dub has cycled through all of them. Like the Babito, Z-Dub loves books and reading. HotMomma takes him to the library every Tuesday to check up to four new books for the week and we have reading time every night before bed. It's great when you can incorporate counting, color recognition and general knowledge of things. Right now we have a book on opposites. He's almost got his right and left figured out.

Love the idea. I'll just have to rummage through my thousands of pictures to find somebody that looks like a celebrity.

This also gets me thinking that I wish I had pictures from my really real brushes with celebrities. I live in Vegas. There are always celebrities here. Back when I was in college here I played blackjack at the Hard Rock with Jenny McCarthy; Dennis Rodman bought us drinks at a night club and Polly Shore spilled his cocktail on me at the Billboard Music Awards. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera on hand for any of these. Also, when I was young my dad was Tom Selleck's body guard and he came to our house for dinner. My dad also worked security at the Playboy Mansion. I wish he still did.

Of course, my wife works at the airport and meets celebrities every day, but especially on Fridays and Sundays. She has flight boarding passes with autographs, but no photos.

We're going to the Greg Maddux Celebrity Dinner on Monday night. Perhaps we'll meet some more there and take some photos with my camera phone.

We're down to $2.63 per gallon and I saw $2.57 at Sam's Club this morning. It's awesome, but you're right, higher prices spur faster innovation in alternative fuel development. It also drastically decreased demand, which is a good thing too. But prices will go up again. It's inevitable. Hopefully America will remember this time.

This was a tough question. I didn't contribute because I couldn't remember any well enough. Of course, now that I read these responses one came flooding back into my memory. It's actually more of an act of cruelty and vandalism than a prank, but it seemed fitting at the time. A friend of mine was moving out of an apartment she had shared with a roommate that she absolutely despised.To "pay back" her roommate for her misery, upon moving her out we went to the grocery store and bough a whole fish. We went back to the apartment, took off the cover to the air conditioning duct and placed the fish in there. I can't even imagine the smell that would have come out of there when the air or heat was turned on.

I know...horrible.

Unfortunately, there has never, ever been a time in human existence without turmoil. The severity may change, but it's always there. I think about what the future holds for my children all the time. It's frightening, but at the same time I'm hopeful. Perhaps one day humanity will come to its senses and say "that's enough." Wishful thinking I guess.
