Let's meet in 5 years and see if devices will be programmed using Open Web or some type of obscure third-party proprietary framework.

Re: Developers: the best smart phone platform is?

It sounds great to all lazy developers, but the reality is that the mobile devices are quite different - performance, energy efficiency, and other things start to play a major role. At the end, the HTML/CSS ideas are part of the Android platform as well, but to build a lightweight apps or services, you don't need a browser. Also, Android comes with an NDK now, which allows you to develop native services, when performance, hardware drivers, and other things become critical, and I'm not sure if webOS has something similar.

Re: Developers: the best smart phone platform is?

Of Course. But it remains a very primitive platform beyond that. I think that facebook+facebook connect will end up winning this war. EVERYONE has an @reply name on Twitter and it always works the same way. On Facebook? No. They are trying to add that but haven't gotten there yet.

Re: The biggest loser in the Twitter search deals

I do not agree. I think that over time, small businesses will realize that have a public page on facebook is as valuable (more valuable) than having a twitter account. When those pages will be public, they will be automatically available to Google (that is the power of the open internet). So facebook will not sell the data. But the google traffic will still be there. I do not think that the twitter vs. facebook argument for celebrities and small businesses will be based on whose has a deal with Google.

The key is who will offer me the best tools to feed and manage my community and it is not clear at this point to me who the winner is.

Re: louisgray.com: Twitter Gives Bing Access to the Firehose, Promises More to Come

Great post. The key when you create a new project is to get quickly from 0 to 1000 active users so that you start having a feedback loop, start measuring and iterate.

I think that this rule is true for every new product which tries to innovate. It is a key ingredient to survive inception.

This is why blogger which have a large and active community are a key ingredient of the start up ecosystem.

Re: It is ridiculous startups have to pay to pitch

Educate me.

Re: It is ridiculous startups have to pay to pitch

Techdik. This might be an example of where Google is trying to do too much in one iteration. They could have taken wikis and improve them. They could have taken email and improve it or they could have taken google docs and improve it. The 3 together seems to have too much complexity (both conceptually, from a user interface perspective and from a technology perspective) to have the chance to benefit from mainstream adoption and become part of the fabric of the web. On the other hand, one of the benefits of being Google is that you can make these kind of bolder bets, fail, learn from them, re-scope and move forward.

Re: LUNCHTIME POLL: What’s Your Favorite Firefox Extension?

Firebug, Feedly, Cooliris

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/09/feedly-explore-highlights-recommended.html

Yes i see it on the Cover page !
why it not the regular link as it was one week ago
i using by karma a lot !
thanks !

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/09/feedly-explore-highlights-recommended.html

Hi victor.
