in The tech industry in slow period… on Scobleizer
In the day job, I'm developing an application in Windows Forms that will help large ships protect the environment. Which is about all I can say about it until we launch the beta. It may not be as sexy as Web 2.0, but it's sure as hell important (and entertaining) work.

"Utter hogwash, which is how I feel about most of About.com’s content anyway."

There are a few goodies. But as with any large network of that fashion, 90% of it is dogshit.

Oh, sorry - can I say that over here?

:-p

Haven't noticed a problem on my end, Robert.

Maybe Reader is slacking off for President's Day. :)

Gee, I'd love to, Robert. But with 105 comments already, what's the point? :-)

And not to gloat? But I was doing this MONTHS before you realized it was cool.

Okay, I'm gloating. Sue me.

I've added short "Sugar Rush" posts to Zero Boss. At the bottom of every block of Sugar Rushes is a link to my items tagged "zeroboss" in Google Reader, so that people can read what I don't have time to publish.

Ye Gods, do I love Google Reader.

Adding your link blog to my feeds, Robert. :)

in BlogBurst Announces Reward Program on Plagiarism Today
I'm nonplussed. Blogburst hasn't done anything for my work - probably because a lot of what I write isn't "family friendly". There are better ways to promote your content, IMO.

Dude, were you at MS today in building 42, 3rd floor? I walked past that and thought with a laugh, "Maybe that's Scoble doing a vcast." Then I thought, "Nah...he'd never have gotten past the guard dogs and the snipers."

Agreed with kmilyun. Your writing is excellent. Keep it up!

Point taken. I'll save my venom for the religious fundamentalists and gay-bashers instead. ;-)

Thanks again for the discussion.

Hey, what's a little erosion of precious civil liberties between friends? :-/

Thanks for the heads up. It's like we're being ruled by the Marx Brothers.

Totally agreed. Sharp dialogue, great punchlines, and characters you won't find anywhere else.

Oh, and Brock Samson smashing backwards through a car windshield. Always worth a "booyah!" in my book.

in MySpace Blogs on Technosailor
Anything that gets people into the world of self-publishing is good, IMO.

One thing you don't mention here: MySpace is HEAVILY used by musicians. It's a great way for many up and coming bands to get their work heard by a wide audience. So the textual content on MySpace may be no great shakes, but it's proving an excellent platform for other types of media. Other people, like ZeFrank, have made great use of MySpace to spread the word about their vblogging.

Noticing the same thing here.

I guess the phrase is true: ya don't know what ya got until it's gone. Hopefully I'll wake up in the morning to a functioning spam filter, and not 100 moderation emails.

in Feedless bloggers frustrate on Scobleizer
Blogger blogs are really bad about this. About a quarter of the ones I go to don't have their feeds turned on. It drives me nuts.

Sometimes, however, autodiscovery doesn't work well from your chosen feed reader tool. I and others are running into problems with adding feeds to Google Reader that are hosted on FeedBurner. Several users have complained that GR grabs one of my OTHER FeedBurner feeds, and not the one I supplied. I've noticed this happen on Weblogs, Inc. blogs too, which also use FeedBurner. I attempted to add http://www.thatsfit.com/ this morning, and Reader brought up TVSquad's blog.

Argh.

If feeds are going to work for the masses (and I see them as the future of content consumption), autodiscovery must work SEAMLESSLY.

in The first 60 days of PopCurrent on Scobleizer
Megan: It's about creating a new user base. Digg is hopelessly geeky, and will always remain so at its core. PopCurrent is starting off fresh, and can thus accrue a totally different audience as its base.

Just ask yourself: Can you see the Digg and the MySpace crowds intermingling?

Yeah, 'swhat I thought. :)

in The first 60 days of PopCurrent on Scobleizer
Megan: Digg may cover it within its scope, but the site still seems very tech-centric in its user base to me. I'm not sure it'll ever be able to overcome that, and diverse into the mom and pop crowd. Especially when so many people in the current Digg user base are...well, assholes.

By focusing on *just* entertainment right out of the gate, PopCurrent attracts a completely different user base.

Just ask yourself: Can you see the MySpace crowd on Digg?

Yeah. Thought not.

I'm willing to forgive them the downtime, hard as it's been on my blog. They have EXCELLENT customer service, and great services for the little they charge. In particular, they were kind enough to forgive me $260 in disk overages when, like an idiot, I let a cron job that backed up my mySql databases run amock.

Ask the daddy bloggers what they think of the "mommyblogger index". Not such a wise move as it might seem at first glance, IMO.

Yes, it's important to break dumb rules - when it matters. History has been redefined by people breaking dumb rules about race, sex, and class divisions.

But this? Sorry, but it's a video game. More than that, it's Second Life's private property. However dumb the rule may be, SL's dominion ought to be respected.

Totem Lake IS depressing, dude. Deal with it.

Of course, I like off of 172nd Ave. down from work (next to a REAL lake), and it's just as depressing here. They're building three luxury houses up the street, so close together you don't need to leave your house to have an affair. Asking price? Why, they start from the low $1 millions!

Sigh.
