Good show. I met Gerard briefly at a trivia night once. Nice guy, quick wit. Goes with the territory I guess.

Here's a thought: Naomi Robson: the Reality Show. "Come with Naomi as she tries to find a job that balances her wacky crazy extremist beliefs in her own self importance with the reality that no-one really likes her. Oh, there'll be shananigans!". Any suggestions on a name? At the moment, all I've got is "Bob-A-Job Robson".

Greg Fleet is one of the Home hardware dogs? That's awesome. Never made that connection. I guess the motion capture isn't all that good.

just watching the last couple of Studio 60 this week (army kidnaps? when did this become the west wing?), but one of the things that rattled me since the show began (apart from "how do i get Matt's office?" was how he was supposed to get a whole show written alone. The idea of one man writing a whole show when a staff of two dozen or something was originally in there just seems unrealistic.

I DO think that they should have not shown any actual sketches. They were really unfunny, which meant it took away from the realism of the rest of the show.

Meanwhile, I want that office, overlooking the studio floor, part of an old theatre... so nice...

I think you guys were talking about Saxondale a long time ago, way before you talked about Alan Partridge. I happened to see a link to Saxondale last week and watched the first episode. Funny stuff. So real, such a realistic character, so removed from Alan Partridge. I'll have to watch more now.

The Nation: The only way is out. I reckon if they're scared of doing the show they want to do, they're always stuffed. And if they're already stuffed, they might as well go out with a bang. Go for the throat, burn off Jackie O, drill her pretentious ass for all the laughs you can and dump her. Get the swear jar out and fill that bugger up. Call the spades spades and start getting a reaction, because that's what they were promising and that's what they're failing to deliver so far.

Mick Molloy is a "LARRAKIN", not a "Larry-kind". that's what Nine bought! For God's sake, get out there and offend somebody!

Haven't ever watched Firefly. Wasn't on free-to-air back then. saw Serenity. meh...
What was Serenity like in comparison to the show?

I think you're selling Angel short though. Horror/ Detective/Law show with comedy bits? At the very least Season 5 when they take over Wolfram and Hart? Smile Time? Lorne?

I'm still pissed that the show got axed after they redeemed themselves for two seasons of annoying story arcs with an awesome fifth season.

The O'Keefe variety show: stretching too thin or pet project? Maybe this is what he's been angling for all these years? Putting up with doing game shows and weekend news bits to get to where he wants to be. Remember that he started in comedy, and the pinnacle of television comedy is having your own show. O'Keefe would have grown up with Tonight Live with Steve Vizard on the screen.

Meanwhile, does anyone know where I can find a copy of the old claymation cartoon "The Red and the Blue"? Been looking for years but have never found a copy.

Cheers,
Chad

Re: Boxcutters Episode 92

Yes, just found an episode on YouTube.

All I need now is Simon Soundman playing the trumpet and my childhood will return.

Re: Boxcutters Episode 92

Oh, YouTube!

Anyone know how I can get an mp3 of his trumpet for my ringtone?

Re: Boxcutters Episode 92

I guess having your Exec fired can make you feel a little unstable. I wouldn't have been surprised to see cast members in the background last night unhinging parts of the set as mementos.

How many weeks did the Mick Molloy Show last? Eight? Do you reckon he'll make it?

Why didn't they get Tony Martin up there as well? The balance would have been so much better.

Re: Boxcutters Episode 92

Cos Cardone was an executive on this show, and "The Footy Show". Can someone tell me that name of that book? Is it freely available in any Melbourne bookshops?

Re: Boxcutters Episode 93

Favourite in-joke in Arrested Development that I didn't even get until I read about it:

Henry Winkler played the a lawyer character in the first (and second?) season. When the next season rocked around, he was filming another show and was unavailable, so AD got Scott Baio to play his replacement, Bob Loblaw.

In Happy Days, when the producers decided that the Fonz (played by Henry Winkler) was too old, they introduced the new generation of coolness, Chachi, played by Scott Baio.

Also the "Save Our Bluths" show was fantastic.

Re: Boxcutters Episode 94

Was that Boxcutter's own Tom Elliot on Chanel Ten news last night?

Anyone see Mick Molloy interviewing Hilltop Hoods on Wednesday night? I swear it sounded like he was 60 years old, interviewing the "hip and groovy bands that the kids like to jive to these days...". And then he rapped with them. "I'm a little teapot..." Never has Mick looked quite so lame.

Meanwhile, John Howard on YouTube. You know what this means: if he gets kicked out of office, his fans can send the government loads and loads of nuts until they reinstate him!

Huzzah,
Chad

Re: Boxcutters Episode 99

An, another warm, inviting episode to toast my ear-mellows upon.

Re The Master: I was trying to not spoil the return of the Master at the end of this series of Doctor Wh (and I couldn't remember if it had been mentioned here or not), but alas, the secret is out.

Yes, Magic Breath was cheating (killed him, saved the other guy, but she's fine? WTF?), but I still think this year's conclusion is just stupid. Pretty but stupid.

Micallef did a great sketch about having enough room to swing a cat. Damn not having everything everywhere not available as a YouTube clip! Someone somewhere knows what I'm talking about.

Nice mixed metaphor BTW re Rose Byrne: Her star is on the rise/, now she's getting meteor roles!

So what's up for ep 100? My votes is a black and white musical episode where Ross and Brett reveal that they are the same person...but from different parents... all played by Larry Hagman!!!

Finally, the Ellen Parsons Project? I hear Helen Coonan is a fan:

"Eye in the Sky! The only difference I found was that I EXPECTED the jokes. I knew what was coming. When you look back to the earlier series, the viewers were naive as to what sort of humour it was, but now everyone knows what to expect: the misused words, the double entendres, the realistic relationship of Brett and Kim vs the fantasy relationship of Kel and Kath (eg, the baby birthday budget argument vs Nicole and Keith). I don't think I would blame Riley and Turner for the disappointment, I think it's more a case of "been there, laughed at that" for the audience.

In comparison, I remember seeing only one episode of the last AbFab series and thinking "this is frigging awful" simply because it has turned the corner from funny to angry.

So, did we hype "Blink" too much? I watched again and still thought it was great.

"Things happening. Well… four things. When the press release says "Ripper sees Giles in England", I think it means Ripper the show, not the character.

The other guy from England was Ethan Rayne, and to nit-pick further, both of them have appeared in the Buffy comic (Ethan in a dream sequence, Giles appears chatting to a demon).

I really liked "The Times", although a friend of mine used to call it "T-T-Times! I never saw it, but I followed it over the net (yes, tv by proxy).

It was a detective reallity show where the contestants had to find out clues and then answer questions and then the two people who were the most off the mark were sent to another crime scene and split up and...

...only one made it out alive...

Apparently, the other person would check out some clue and the camera would rush them from behind and kill them.

The show seemed really creepy, even just reading about it, with some strange cultish group hanging around in the background and so on.

Unfortunately, in the end, the two people left both chose the wrong answer, but they gave the prize to the one who was less wrong (ie, knew all the right answers, but got swayed and picked the wrong culprit).

Even more unfortunately, between filming the show and airing it, the winner was killed in the twin towers on September 11.

How's that for a downer ending?

Huzzah!
Chad

Re: Ep 125: Tim Ferguson, DAAS Kapital, Big Gig, Emerald Falls

Axed sounds great. I heard Scott Brennen talking about it on RRR as well, saying he'll be showing censored clips from Skithouse as well.

Unfortunately I'll be out of town on the weekend so I can't go along.

Any chance to having it on again, or at a pinch, someone taping it?

Make it a Boxcutters Exclusive, or maybe a Summer Series episode.

Huzzah,
A.Chad

Re: Ep 133: Australia’s Got Talent, Community TV, Josie Parelli

Totally off-topic, but great news for the Doctor Who fans who listen to Boxcutters...

Steven Moffat is to succeed Russell T Davies as the chief writer and executive producer of Doctor Who when it returns for its fifth series in 2010.

This is the guy behind last year's fantastic "Blink" episode, as well as a number of other great episodes, and long ago created "Press Gang".

Well chuffed,
Chad

Re: Ep 133: Australia’s Got Talent, Community TV, Josie Parelli

I think it may be delayed for a week by Eurovision. These faux-Rosses are great, adding something new to the mix, insider stories, name-dropping and it seems fevered reactions from listeners. Please continue, or Welcome back Ross, whichever comes first.

Is Justin Hamilton coming back in to talk about the Lost finale?

Wilbur brought up an interesting point about breakfast radio. I don't watch, and I don't listen to much radio in the morning unless I use the car, but radio would get more coverage than tv in the morning, what with all the cars on the road.

If only... someone decided to pitch a tv/radio program in the morning, so that people could start watching at home, then take it with them in the car/bus/train/tram/ferry/unicycle. As long as the show remembered that they were speaking to listeners as well as viewers, there's no reason it wouldn't work.

If we're going that far, why not introduce an internet component, so people could log in when they get to work and continue to consume?

AND AND AND they could have live SMS portions so people with mobile phones could be included.

We've been living with all these methods of communication for far too long to not try looking at a wider immersive breakfast experience!

Because we all know that all technological achievements in the world have been solely to provide people with a better selection of entertainment during their morning commute.

One more long black methinks.

Re: Ep 136: Ray Watch, Lawrence Mooney

That "F*cking yeah!" sounded extremely cathartic.

Re: Ep 138: All Saints, Degrassi Junior High, Toby Sullivan

From memory, Gerry Sont went on to pay (or played in the past) "Melvin, Son of Alvin", as Josh would say, a greatly underlooked Australian movie.

Re: Ep 141: Making a Pilot, Battle Star Gallactica, Dr Who, with John Richards

Hell, I've been waiting since last season for you guys to talk about Doctor Who, since the terrible end to Series 3 with John Simm and the reset button. And you never did. Curses!

Now I want to know if anyone else thinks the quality of this year's series is the highest yet? Seemed to me with, with a couple of exceptions, the overall quality of the show has really picked up this year, rather than the hit and miss quality of last year.

Definitely , get John back. As well as the Who stuff, the background on the pilots was fantastic. Looking forward to more in the future.

Interesting to think of a commercial channel using Channel 31 as an OFFICIAL breeding ground for new talent. Smart idea for everyone: network gets to see what works, creators get to hone their skills without having to worry about "broadcast" quality issues, but with enough budget to produce decent material, and because the production aren't high, the quality of the writing and acting is at the forefront.

Good job everyone.

Re: Ep 146: Daria, Australian Idol, with Jess McGuire

When Josh mentioned the whole Kids TV segment, one of the first shows I thought of, after the unholy triumvirate of Doctor Who, The Goodies and Monkey, was Mysterious Cities of Gold, but I thought maybe it would be considered a cartoon, rather than a "show show".

Bless your little cotton socks, Jess!

Re: Ep 154: Adam Zwar, The Ex-List, Tomorrow People

According to Aint It Cool, The Ex-List has already been cancelled.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/38887

Talk about putting the mockers on it, guys.

Don't ever mention the new Blake's 7, deal?

Dang!

Meanwhile, you're right, Josh. Dodgy sound levels - bad touch), but for some reason we keep watching it, and it seems to be getting better/smoother/more into it's rhythm each week.

Less "one-note joke" than I expected.

Huzzah,
Chad

Re: Ep 160: Jane Badler (Diana from V), Sons of Anarchy

Hi.

Yes, that piece of newspaper has come from my personal collection of ratty old pieces of paper.

I've got clippings from many magazines and newspapers regarding Doctor Who, from the afore-mentioned article on WhoCon 4, to the article from TV Week introducing Colin Baker as the new Dr Who:

"And this new generation Doctor, like a cross between Burt Reynolds and Einstein, is the sexiest 760-year-old ever to flit through time and space"

Ahh, to be young and blind.
