in Ep 160: Jane Badler (Diana from V), Sons of Anarchy on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Hi.

Yes, that piece of newspaper has come from my personal collection of ratty old pieces of paper.

I've got clippings from many magazines and newspapers regarding Doctor Who, from the afore-mentioned article on WhoCon 4, to the article from TV Week introducing Colin Baker as the new Dr Who:

"And this new generation Doctor, like a cross between Burt Reynolds and Einstein, is the sexiest 760-year-old ever to flit through time and space"

Ahh, to be young and blind.

Dammit. Did someone mention David Tennant under their breath?

It seems Josh's influence as owner/creator of Channel Ten extends beyond that station...

Meanwhile, "Bogan Pride": thought the first episode was terrible (musical routine - nice touch. Dodgy sound levels - bad touch), but for some reason we keep watching it, and it seems to be getting better/smoother/more into it's rhythm each week.

Less "one-note joke" than I expected.

According to Aint It Cool, The Ex-List has already been cancelled.

Talk about putting the mockers on it, guys.

Don't ever mention the new Blake's 7, deal?

Dang!

Meanwhile, you're right, Josh. "Tomorrow People" opening credits - scary beyond belief. Never watched the show for that reason. Up there with "Children of the Stones" and "Sky".

Oh, and the anthology show "Shadows", except I watched that one.

When Josh mentioned the whole Kids TV segment, one of the first shows I thought of, after the unholy triumvirate of Doctor Who, The Goodies and Monkey, was Mysterious Cities of Gold, but I thought maybe it would be considered a cartoon, rather than a "show show".

Bless your little cotton socks, Jess!

Hell, I've been waiting since last season for you guys to talk about Doctor Who, since the terrible end to Series 3 with John Simm and the reset button. And you never did. Curses!

Now I want to know if anyone else thinks the quality of this year's series is the highest yet? Seemed to me with, with a couple of exceptions, the overall quality of the show has really picked up this year, rather than the hit and miss quality of last year.

Definitely , get John back. As well as the Who stuff, the background on the pilots was fantastic. Looking forward to more in the future.

Interesting to think of a commercial channel using Channel 31 as an OFFICIAL breeding ground for new talent. Smart idea for everyone: network gets to see what works, creators get to hone their skills without having to worry about "broadcast" quality issues, but with enough budget to produce decent material, and because the production aren't high, the quality of the writing and acting is at the forefront.

Good job everyone.

From memory, Gerry Sont went on to pay (or played in the past) "Melvin, Son of Alvin", as Josh would say, a greatly underlooked Australian movie.

Another great show. These faux-Rosses are great, adding something new to the mix, insider stories, name-dropping and it seems fevered reactions from listeners. Please continue, or Welcome back Ross, whichever comes first.

Is Justin Hamilton coming back in to talk about the Lost finale?

Wilbur brought up an interesting point about breakfast radio. I don't watch, and I don't listen to much radio in the morning unless I use the car, but radio would get more coverage than tv in the morning, what with all the cars on the road.

If only... someone decided to pitch a tv/radio program in the morning, so that people could start watching at home, then take it with them in the car/bus/train/tram/ferry/unicycle. As long as the show remembered that they were speaking to listeners as well as viewers, there's no reason it wouldn't work.

If we're going that far, why not introduce an internet component, so people could log in when they get to work and continue to consume?

AND AND AND they could have live SMS portions so people with mobile phones could be included.

We've been living with all these methods of communication for far too long to not try looking at a wider immersive breakfast experience!

Because we all know that all technological achievements in the world have been solely to provide people with a better selection of entertainment during their morning commute.

One more long black methinks.

Totally off-topic, but great news for the Doctor Who fans who listen to Boxcutters...

Steven Moffat is to succeed Russell T Davies as the chief writer and executive producer of Doctor Who when it returns for its fifth series in 2010.

This is the guy behind last year's fantastic "Blink" episode, as well as a number of other great episodes, and long ago created "Press Gang".

Well chuffed,
Chad

Axed sounds great. I heard Scott Brennen talking about it on RRR as well, saying he'll be showing censored clips from Skithouse as well.

Unfortunately I'll be out of town on the weekend so I can't go along.

Any chance to having it on again, or at a pinch, someone taping it?

Make it a Boxcutters Exclusive, or maybe a Summer Series episode.

in Ep 124: Anna Brain, Project Runway on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Finally!

From memory, I won the very first Boxcutterss quiz, and now, another win, and it's only taken ... three years?

Maybe you can stick my shirt in the bag for me.

Speaking of leaving reality shows, years ago, there was a show called "Mystery in Small Town X" which was made in the US, but I don't know if it was ever shown here. I never saw it, but I followed it over the net (yes, tv by proxy).

It was a detective reallity show where the contestants had to find out clues and then answer questions and then the two people who were the most off the mark were sent to another crime scene and split up and...

...only one made it out alive...

Apparently, the other person would check out some clue and the camera would rush them from behind and kill them.

The show seemed really creepy, even just reading about it, with some strange cultish group hanging around in the background and so on.

Unfortunately, in the end, the two people left both chose the wrong answer, but they gave the prize to the one who was less wrong (ie, knew all the right answers, but got swayed and picked the wrong culprit).

Even more unfortunately, between filming the show and airing it, the winner was killed in the twin towers on September 11.

How's that for a downer ending?

Hey, while this comments section has an over-arcing language warning (nice heads up BTW Jimbo, and here was me dictating the page to my child. My Child, James! Don't you care about children?? I had to wash the thing's ears out with soap!) can I just say...

What the fuck does "Medium FastTrack" mean?

What, they used the faster boat?

Absolutely ridiculous (unless they are actually FastTracking episodes of "Medium", which makes more sense...).

To quotes Jimbo: you fucking cunts!

See, you've started something now...

in No Episode Tonight on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Let's not confuse ourselves: This is the OTHER Mr Black, not the one who, I think Jess McGuire's words were, "eats semen".

Unless that is him. In that case... Tic Tacs All Round!

BTW, did anyone see the ad for Today Tonight over the weekend (sorry, "at" the weekend, forgetting my journalism background), which announced "We talk to the commentators and get the verdict: What was the greatest tennis match in history?"

Firsty, King Kong v Robot Christ. Easy.
Secondly, is it really a verdict? The answer to a survey perhaps? Or Number 1 guess? Top of a Poll? Opinion?
Semantics? yes. But I think at the very least, they should stick to words they can spell...

As they announced the words above, on the screen, in big bold letters, it read "THE VEREDICT"

Oh, and we laughed and laughed...

Damn you O'Keefe!

I always thought that it would be funny to call my late-night talk/variety show "The Late Chad Lockwood".

It's a little black, a little true (because I'm always a little late. Oh, btw "Bender Bending Rodriguez". Did I win?) and a little chronologically correct.

I mentioned it once in passing to my mother-in-law, who hmmmed and said seriously "...but people will think you're dead..." Me:"hence the funny", which was followed by my first receival of the mother-in-law stare. ahh... good times...

Now I'll never be able to use it!

Fume! Fume, I say...

Hopefully, no-one will use my No. 2 suggestion:
"Bloody Hell! It's Chad Lockwood!"

I don't mind it: not rocket science, somewhat episodic with a light touch of story arc, Sharon Gless, Bruce Campbell and Gabrielle Anwar with a f*cking terrible Irish accent.

Guilty pleasure.

Apparently the guitarist for an old band died recently (obit in the paper today).

Their biggest/only claim to fame was that they released the worldwide smash hit, "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep".

I wanna see at least three minutes of sombre black and white photos of the band playing and touring, slowly zooming in and fading out, while "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" gets played over the top.

It's what he would have wanted...

I didn't even know the Emmy Awards were on until Californication was drawing to a close. I thought the recent hubbub was because the noms had been announced.

If Ten is going to burn the Emmys off at the wee hours (well, the early wee hours - I call them the wee wee hours...) maybe they should do a Wogan-style Eurovision presentation locally: bit of comment and colour, bit of off-colour humour, bit of context for shows we don't get or haven't got?

Make "the watching of the show" the show, not the show instead, which has apparently lost its appeal.

Now there's a hosting spot for Josie Perelli(sp?) if I ever saw one.

in Thoughts on a late night chat show? on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
The Late Show, nightly.

Ensemble cast working together, with different combinations taking the lead as and when they have something funny.

I realise that it's a huge strain on the writers' wrists, but if Tonight shows can be done here and overseas in the past, why not now?

I would prefer less plain interviews and musical acts, but sometimes you've gotta plug/fill.

The most important aspect: surprising yet comfortable. You need the wow factor of "didn't expect that" with an element of "...and that's why I like to end my day watching these guys..."

Let me be the first to nit-pick about Buffy.

Giles IS Ripper. When the press release says "Ripper sees Giles in England", I think it means Ripper the show, not the character.

The other guy from England was Ethan Rayne, and to nit-pick further, both of them have appeared in the Buffy comic (Ethan in a dream sequence, Giles appears chatting to a demon).

I really liked "The Times", although a friend of mine used to call it "T-T-Times! C-Cool News! for Y-Young P-People!!" complete with street pose.

And then Frontline took it off in a great episode with Harry Shearer.

you could say when it came to the Times, I was the one doing the rooting...
