It affects some people's eyes more than others. So don't call it bullshit.

Do a google search for "glossy matte poll", and you'll find dozens of polls on the subject.

Here's a review of some results (who prefer matte):

45%
48%
68%
50%
54%
72%

Average: 56%. That's a majority. Actually, it ties in what what the local Apple store salesman told me, which is that it's roughly 50-50 of people who prefer matte and gloss.

Here are some poll questions:

1) What are your feelings on the glossy-only screen in the new MacBook Pro (and MacBook)?

Love it, already ordered one! 5.73%
Looks sharp, planning on buying 15.92%
Looks good, but no plans to purchase 16.97%
Need to see it in person before judging 14.75%
Dislike glossy screen, but will buy anyway 15.06%
Hate glossy screens, will not buy because of it 29.41%
Other? 2.15%

http://www.macosxhints.com/polls/index.php

2) Gloss or Matte?
Gloss - 50.00%
Matte! - 48.39%

http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/sho...

3) Glossy or Matte?
Glossy 24.14%
Matte 68.97%
Neutral (Doesn't Matter) 6.90%
You Can Choose? 0%

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=24...

4) Glossy or Matte Display ? Often, top companies have a period of dominance of say 10-20 years, mostly.

You think I'm taking about Microsoft, true, but I'm actually referring to Apple.

In the future, we will look at the Vista period as Apple's golden opportunity to steal the march on Microsoft by capturing massive marketshare by opening up its OS to licensing.

Right now, Vista is not even good enough.

But once Vista gets roughly good enough -- not brilliant -- but works fine and does not crash, and gets the job done, people are just going to stick with Microsoft again.

Never again will Apple have had a chance to turn the tables.

Let's take a 20 year bet on this one. Record this bet in your long term reminder system and see if I am correct.

Re: Matte Displays Being Replaced for New Matte Displays by Apple Support

It is vital for the vast population of Apple users to realise that this is a total spin job by Steve Jobs.

When Jobsie says the majority want glossy, technically that means more than 50%.

But do the research for yourself. Search google for "matte glossy poll". You'll find dozens of polls.

Here are some poll results of people who want matte:

45%
48%
68%
50%
54%
72%

That's an average of 56% who want matte. That correlates with what the local Apple store told me, that it is roughly 50-50 for people who want matte vs glossy MacBook Pro's.

So, when Steve says the majority want gloss, it was probably around 51% who wanted glossy. So that was enough for Jobs to shaft the rest of us, like he's shafting the Firewire users.

So, we're going to take this lying down.

Mark these words. This is the beginning of a new monster, a monopolist of the like of the worst of Microsoft, who can't care less about their customers, because there is no competition.

Folks, we are feeding a monster, a new monopoly. No competition for OSX hardware. Apple can do what it likes, and shaft you. No amount of cries will cause them to change, unless they start to lose money.

_______________

SOME POLL RESULTS:

What are your feelings on the glossy-only screen in the new MacBook Pro (and MacBook)?

Love it, already ordered one! 5.73%
Looks sharp, planning on buying 15.92%
Looks good, but no plans to purchase 16.97%
Need to see it in person before judging 14.75%
Dislike glossy screen, but will buy anyway 15.06%
Hate glossy screens, will not buy because of it 29.41%
Other? 2.15%

http://www.macosxhints.com/polls/index.php

View Poll Results: Gloss or Matte? NO WAY am I going to let such minor damage occur to my computer. Why should Apple thrust this indignity on us. I agree with @MM above that the http://macmatte.wordpress.com website shows there is a substantial number (perhaps not a majority, but substantial nonetheless) of Mac users who want non-reflective screens. Apple, listen up.
